28.01.2022 NEWSLETTER: MFV News - Summer Edition.

25.01.2022 Its always lovely to hear feedback from our physio clients. "Loki is 13 years old. He is deaf, got cataracts, a heart condition and anxiety but just because your getting old and slowing doesn't mean you need to live in pain. After his physio session with kylie he had a new lease on life."

19.01.2022 Have you met Nurse Nic? Nicole started her veterinary nursing journy at Motto Farm as a work-experience student in 2016, and graduated Cert IV Veterinary Nursing in early 2017. Nic has loved all animals from a young age, loves all aspects of nursing and advancing her nursing skills. She has a particular interest in surgical and hospital cases.... She has 2 furbabies, Levi the cat, and Elvis a poodle. When not at work, Nic can be found going for relaxing drives and adventures, or cuddling up with the furbabies for a relaxing evening.

30.12.2021 CASE STUDY - CLEFT PALATE REPAIR Cora is a French Bulldog who was born with a Cleft Palate. A Cleft Palate is a congential deficit developed while the puppy is growing in the womb. The tissue between the nose and mouth fails to connect properly leaving an opening. There are different severities of this defect. Cora's hard and soft Palate was affected by this defect. When the hard palate is affected ( the Boney but at the top front of the mouth) it can expose the nasal cavity ...as it did in Cora's case. This means anything the eat or drink is likely to come out their nose. When the soft Palate (the squishy bit at the top back of mouth) is affected it makes it difficult for them to swallow, and it is easy for them to aspirate (get fluid in their lungs) Cora was unable to suckle, so it was decided for her best chance of survival she would be hand raised and tube fed ( a tube is placed in her mouth down her oesophagus into her stomach). This was done for many weeks until she was able to swallow kibble. She was unable to effectively drink from a bowl so she was syringe water frequently through the day At 5 months she was big enough to undergo surgery to fix her Palate. DR Martin carefully undermined the soft tissue from both sides of the soft Palate. On the right side he created a mucoperiosteal flap still attached at the centre and on the left side he made a pocket. The flap was rotated one hundred and eighty degrees on its hinge to cover the defect in the plate and was tucked under the muscoa on the left where it was sutured in place. The area from where the mucosa was removed from the hard palate left exposed the palatine bone. Luckily granulation tissue will quickly start to grow and it won't take long for the mucosa to be replaced. The soft Palate was repaired by freshening the edges on both sides of the soft Palate and suturing them together. After surgery Cora ate soft foods for 3 weeks until her check up. There was no complications during recovery. At her check up Dr Martin was happy with how it healed. The flap had stayed in place and not broken down. There is still a tiny hole in her hard palate where it did not heal well, but for now that will be monitored as it is not causing any problems. See more

12.10.2021 HAVE YOU MET NURSE ANITA? Anita joined the motto farm family earlier this year as a full time nurse after completing her veterinary nursing in Armidale. She enjoys working with all animals and has a particular interest in large animals. Anita also has a background in Animal Science. Her passion lies in nurturing all fur babies during surgical procedures and is excited to develop her skills in more extensive orthopaedic and specialised surgical procedures. Someone once told ...her that if she loves what she does she will never work a day in her life I have definitely achieved the ultimate goal to have a career which doesn’t feel like work, not to mention having the most amazing work family to support me. When Anita isn’t working you will most likely find her spending some relaxed down time by the water with her fur baby Lilly a rescued kelpie.
