24.01.2022 After what seems a long hiatus, we’ve finally moved to our larger workshop premises in the Blue Mountains suburb of Hazelbrook. There’s lots to do till things are setup and running here, however we’re looking forward to getting back building guitars in a dedicated workspace. But before we can even begin thinking about laying out the space and setting up tools and workflows, we’ve got possums to find homes for and lizards to accomodate too :)

11.01.2022 First job in the new workshop was not a guitar but A Mexican Guitarron repair. It came in with a rather large split in the top and also a cracked neck at the headstock joint. These short scale acoustic bass guitars are under very large string pressures, due to having 6 thick strings but also being tuned a 4th above standard bass tuning. They are known for tops splitting however in this particular instance the flatsawn top used on the instrument only serves to enhance this p...otential. The instrument had sentimental value to the owner and wanted it returned to a good playing order. So we repaired the cracked top. We then added some small longitudinal braces under the top to decrease the bridge roll and to minimise the chance for cracking along some other grain line. The neck was clamped back together, a neck spline added to increase strength, as well as a backplate for the headstock. Here are some shots of the repairs undertaken.

02.01.2022 We’re back and ready to build again! It’s been over 2 months converting our new workspace in Hazelbrook into a dedicated, clean and professional guitar building space.
