16.01.2022 We are thrilled to share that Dr Esther Charlesworth, founding Director of Architects Without Frontiers (AWF), was appointed as a Member of the Order of Austral...ia (AM) in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her significant service to architecture, to education, and to the community of the Asia-Pacific region. Esther is a Professor in the School of Architecture and Urban Design at RMIT University and is the Director of the Humanitarian Architecture Research Lab (HARB). She has been a leading light in this country during her career, having written a number of books, starting an aid organisation and more recently initiating a new Masters Degree focussing on Disaster Relief at RMIT. She has brought together engineers, property developers, landscape architects and architects in a supporters’ network, which self-funds AWF. She is training a new generation of professionals interested in applying architectural expertise to humanitarian work. Thank you to our hard-working Honours Committee for compiling the nomination. Congratulations Esther! Image: Architects Without Frontiers

Whilst that 1.2% might not sound a lot, for a house with the median price of $1.2 million dollars this amounts to a substantial $256,000... increase in value over ten years. This suggests that the design quality achieved in renovations designed by architects is valued by prospective buyers when the property is eventually put on the market.
