07.01.2022 Found this on another post today. Dave Donnelly was a member of the Nunawading Squash club in the 70's.Dave Donelly . Forwarded from Chris Sinclair ... Dear All Sad news. Dave’s daughter Joanne contacted me today to say that Dave died yesterday, 31st July. It was a very sudden cardiac arrest at home. Dave had suffered a small heart attack last week and had been in hospital for 2 days. He was given the all-clear and sent home on Wednesday with meds. Understandably they are all in shock, and the cardiologist was very surprised too. Joanne has asked me to tell people in Squash, so please pass this on. He was 83. Dave never looked any different from when I first met him in 1975. He never put on weight and only had about 4 grey hairs. He still was pedantic about everything written or said. I’d only spoken with him last week and he ranted about the government telling him he had to wear a mask. Dave is a member of Squash and Racquetball Victoria, Hall of Fame and as Australia’s first WSF Referee and as Chairman of the WSF Rules and Referees Committee for many years, and being awarded Squash Australia’s Distinguished Service Award Dave is well remembered as an airline captain flying 767s with 300 passengers extolling refereeing a squash match doesn’t stress me out. His poems at Masters events and generally at squash events, were legendary. He managed to rhyme tread in dog poos with the streets of Toulouse. (Mrs) Chris Sinclair R.I.P. Dave Donnelley
06.01.2022 This was taken in 2007 at the VSL Spring Grand Finals. L - R Penry Green, the coordinator of the Victorian Squash League Lao Biesbroek, Rob King and Don House. Not sure if we won on the night but Rob looks pretty happy so we'll take the win!
03.01.2022 When we can't wait any longer any wall will do. Find a wall and a flat ground.
01.01.2022 Hi all, As things slowly improve we'll soon be able to hit the courts again, albeit under restricted circumstances: Below is the info that you will need to play at Genesis. Genesis:... Although the Gym opens on June 22, the courts will reopen from Wednesday June 24th. Genesis wants to bed down their Gym arrangements first. There will be a limit of 2 players per court. Non playing coaches may observe from behind the courts, no other spectators. You will be required to book in advance to ensure there are courts available and that the person limit is not exceeded. You will need to provide Genesis with the name and contact details of each player when booking to allow contact tracing if that becomes necessary. Courts will be closed after hours i.e. when reception isn't manned Court bookings will be limited to a maximum of 45 minutes Most important of all - Do not come to the centre if you are feeling unwell. -- So: Preparation: Book a court providing names and contact details. (Bookings can be accepted from Monday June 22) Get changed ready to play at home or work. The change rooms except the toilets will not be available to use. Organise your own water bottle - The kitchen, glasses, cups and water fountains will be off limits. Organise your own gear - Hire balls and racquets will not be available. Include some antiseptic wipes in your squash bag Download and use the Covid Safe app. Report to reception on arrival - preferably no more than 5 minutes prior to your start time. Payment must be via 'Tap n go'. Cash won't be accepted. Play: "Get in, Play, Get out" Wipe down your court's door handles. Hand sanitiser and wipes will be available in the court area. No sharing of towels or racquets. Don't wipe your hands on walls or glass backs. Practice good respiratory ('catch' coughs and sneezes) and hand hygiene. Begin your program with a thorough warm up and concentrate on routines rather than matches. Vacate the court area promptly at the end of your session. No post match socialising within the court and gym areas. Shower and change at home. Given these restrictions we won't be running any round robins or in house for the time being, and obviously Pennant remains on hold at this stage. Junior coaching on Fridays is also still on hold for the time being. Carolyn will keep the juniors informed as things evolve. See you all soon
