25.01.2022 Great news, the courts are now available for coaching and playing (no competition), subject to government guidelines. The clubhouse itself will remain closed and may only be accessed: - to use the toilet facilities - to turn on/off floodlights... - to access first-aid equipment or the defibrillator - to access storage to retrieve training equipment (only essential members) Outdoor physical recreation and sport (no competition): - Density quotient of 1 person per 4sqm - A maximum venue capacity: 100 people - Maximum group size: 10

20.01.2022 Our annual Christmas Party is on next Friday night 11 December from 6pm and like just about everything else this year, it will be different. So that we have the opportunity to catch up (safely) with many people we may not have seen for a while, we are proposing the following: It will be a 'self catered' outdoor event where we can spread out on the grass in and around the club grounds Please bring your own food and drink, cutlery, plates, cups and glasses as well as chairs or ...a rug Bring your racquet if you would like to have a hit Unless you are 1.5m apart or eating or drinking, please wear a mask The toilets will be accessible along with hot water for a cuppa Unfortunately Santa has been asked to go into quarantine before he makes his worldwide deliveries on Christmas Eve, so there won't be the usual Christmas auction The good news is everyone who comes on the night will receive a free ticket for a chance to win a door prize. Looking forward to seeing you all there. See more

16.01.2022 As a result of the new stage four restrictions, we are required to close the club facilities until further notice. Unfortunately this means they cannot be accessed for any activity including coaching, exercising or social tennis. Lets do what we can to make this latest lockdown just a pause on tennis so we can open again as soon as possible, and then stay open. Take care and stay safe. https://mailchi.mp/fbe6cd9cb5c3/stage-4-restrictions

The clubhouse will remain locked. Please adhere to the following requirements: Only attend if you are well and have no symptoms Gatherings of no more than 10 - singles or doubles... Social distancing and personal hygiene must be practised at all times For practical reasons we are unable to leave hand sanitiser on the courts so please bring your own and use before and after using the equipment (e.g. baggers) Bring your own water bottle as the drinking spouts on the courts are not available Avoid contact with people and limit handling of equipment wherever possible Minimise the time you are at the courts before and after playing, no social activities, such as consumption of food or drink or use of the BBQ, is permitted Please demonstrate appropriate tennis etiquette and if you have been on the court for a long time, allow others on, who are waiting to play Download the COVID Safe app so that if someone does test positive, tracing can be greatly enhanced Courts will only be available during daylight hours. Steve is working on a return to coaching plan and will be in contact with students separately. This is just the beginning and a great step forward, so lets make the most of it safely.

12.01.2022 COMPETITION UPDATE As we are all fully aware, current State Government COVID-19 restrictions will only permit social tennis, training and coaching with no more ...than 20 people in a single space (plus those currently required to run the space), but inter-club competition tennis is not permitted. Tennis Victoria is awaiting the outcome of the next State Government De-escalation plan on the further easing of the COVID-19 restrictions and daily engagement between Tennis Victoria and Government Authorities is taking place. At this point in time, while we all await the upcoming State Government confirmation of the next stage of restrictions coming into affect (from 22 June) , Waverley Tennis is now planning for the start-up of its shortened Winter Season 2020 (for junior and senior players) on the weekend of Saturday, 18 July, and Sunday, 19 July, 2020, with its Mid-Week Mens, Mid-Week Ladies, Night Tennis and Waverley Tennis Hot Shots Match Play Term 3 Program to commence shortly thereafter (the latter, Hot Shots, not commencing until Sunday morning, 09 August). In the hope and anticipation that inter-club competitions can resume in July, as planned, Waverley Tennis strongly recommends that all its Affiliates with junior and senior teams entered into the Winter Season 2020 take time out NOW to check that all teams and players entered into the Winter Season are still available and that no changes to teams are required. If your Tennis Club wishes to change team compositions, or even to withdraw teams due to the non-availability of players, please advise Waverley Tennis by Friday, 26 June, 2020, at the latest (i.e., at the end of this current School Term). Please also do not forget to update Club Zone if there have been changes in the office bearers at your Tennis Club. Waverley Tennis will appreciate your assistance in this matter and again thanks you for your patience and support of Waverley Tennis and the community during this unprecedented time.

12.01.2022 Due to the lockdown, club and courts are temporarily unavailable sorry.

10.01.2022 Repeat from last week If you cant tell whether a ball is in or out, you do NOT replay the point. You call it IN and give the benefit of doubt to your oppone...nt. No replays just because you arent sure! If players cannot agree on a score, they go back point by point that game. If they disagree on a point, ONLY replay that particular point and have them go back to the scores agreed on. Eg. You agree on 4 points so say its 30-30 but cant agree on the fifth. You can only replay the fifth point. If a ball comes from a neighboring court between a first and second serve, the server does NOT automatically get a first serve unless the returner thinks it was too long of a delay. A player must honor the request of an opponent to clear a ball on or close to the court. If a player overrules him/herself, they lose the point even if they return the shot. See more

10.01.2022 As expected, the continued escalation of social distancing measures in Victoria now requires us to make some significant changes. On the advice of the government and Tennis Victoria the following is to take effect immediately. - All tennis programmes and coaching is cancelled, including one-on-one coaching, until further notice - All club, association and social play is cancelled until further notice - All tennis clubs and centres are closed until further notice This means ou...r club is no longer available for tennis, even for members having a hit with their own families. These measures may appear extreme but reflect the seriousness of the situation. If you have any questions or concerns, please dont hesitate to email ([email protected]) or call me 0418 506 073. We are all looking forward to returning to what we have taken for granted for so long, the freedom to have a hit of tennis and enjoy each others company whenever we wanted. Lets all stay safe and do our bit to help our community and health care workers. See more

10.01.2022 Our courts are still available for social tennis, with restrictions. Details in the attached newsletter and on our website. https://mailchi.mp/7b22236cbb1d/latest-update-july-2020

09.01.2022 Unfortunately we have decided to postpone the Trivia Night. We do plan to hold it later in the year once the coronavirus situation has changed. Thank you to those who have already purchased a table and we will refund all tickets in full as soon as possible over the next week. While it is extremely disappointing, we feel it is appropriate given the circumstances. A big thank you to those who have been working tirelessly in the background planning and organising what promised to be a great night. All of the generous donations will be held over for when we reschedule. We look forward to seeing you then.

08.01.2022 A quick update - while Tennis Victoria have provided a detailed Return to Tennis Checklist, we are still waiting on advice from Knox Council before we are allowed to open. We are expecting this in the next few days. This initial stage is primarily for social tennis and some coaching where we must still keep 1.5 metres apart, have a maximum of 10 people and follow hygiene protocols. We may have multiple small groups where we can ensure players are spaced out across the venue. The clubhouse must remain closed except for using the toilets and hygiene protocols must be followed. Well keep you posted.

08.01.2022 Stay tuned - latest updates in the attached newsletter.
