22.01.2022 Benefits of Tuina Massage threetreasuresacupuncture.com Tuina is a type of therapeutic massage that has developed mainly to treat musculoskeletal complaints. As... such it is similar to chiropractic, although as practiced in Australia, it involves less joint manipulation. Based upon the same theory of Qi and meridians as Acupuncture, Tuina aims to manually improve the flow of energy, blood and lymph through muscles and tissues of the body in order to improve the function of our joints, limbs and sometimes internal organs. A treatment involving the use of Tuina may typically involve some gentle massage techniques as well as acupressure which is the pressing of acupuncture points. The basic techniques used by a practitioner involve the following: palpation (mo) pinching (jie) pulling (duan) lifting (ti) pressing (an) kneading (mo) pushing (tui) holding (na) Many patients experiencing tired and sore muscles or looking to get a more therapeutic type of massage find benefit in trying a session of Tuina. What can Tuina treat? Tuina massage can be used to treat specific health concerns or areas in the body. It is typically used to treat pain, illness, or just as a form of maintenance therapy. Apart from reducing stress, encouraging relaxation, or enabling sleep, Tuina is often used for conditions and injuries related to the musculoskeletal and nervous systems such as : neck and back pain musculoskeletal disorders premenstrual syndrome fatigue and insomnia carpal tunnel syndrome headaches arthritis osteoporosis stress digestive conditions respiratory conditions If you have any questions about Tuina massage or would like to book a consultation with our practitioners, please don’t hesitate to contact us threetreasuresacupuncture.com

22.01.2022 What is Chinese Remedial Massage/Tuina Tui na, also called Chinese medical massage, is a traditional hands-on manipulation treatment method guided by TCM theory. Through manual manipulations, tui na is used widely to treat various diseases, including not only musculoskeletal disorders, but also diseases of internal organs. Tui Na is applied routinely to patients with orthopedic and neurologic conditions. It also is applied to patients with conditions that may not be thought o...f as susceptible to treatment through manipulation, such as asthma, dysmenorrhea, and chronic gastritis. Tui Na is also used as an adjunct to acupuncture to increase the range of motion of a joint, or instead of acupuncture when needles are uncomfortable or inappropriate, such as in pediatric applications. 20.01.2022 What is Cupping? Cupping benefits include release of chronically tight muscles, scar tissue, and connective tissue, in order to increase blood flow and ease pain. How Cupping Works:... The cup is placed over the body area to be treated and suction is created using either a vacuum gun, bulb, or if rubber cups are being used, by the therapist's hands. The suction pressure can range from light to heavy. The original method of massage cupping involves placing a flame into a glass cup to create the vacuum. Some therapists who practice this therapy, use the more modern silicone cups. 7 Cupping Benefits: By creating suction and negative pressure, cupping is used to: 1. Loosen scar tissue - helps to increase circulation and break up dense tissue 2. Relax connective tissue - releasing tensions held in connective muscle tissue 3. Increase hydration and blood flow - allowing a easier movement in joints 4. Drain toxins by opening lymphatic pathways - helps you feel better all over 5. Relax chronically tight muscles - releasing stress and tension 6. Body Contouring - reducing cellulite, spider veins, stretch marks, or scars (a growing spa treatment trend) 7. Skin-perfecting treatment - many spas now offer this as a facial service To book in for your next Cupping therapy session contact: Dr David J Donnelly, BHSc Acu 0434 527 647 Or drop in to visit: 1 Druids Avenue, Mt Barker 10am-7pm Monday to Friday Weekends by appointment

07.01.2022 As the weather gets colder during the winter months, many people begin to experience pain in their joints or increased tiredness and lethargy. Fortunately a simple treatment using the dried herb of a common plant may be an easy and cost effective solution. Moxibustion is a form of health care that dates back to 250 BCE, and utilises the dried form of a herb known as Ai ye in Chinese, Artemisia Vulgaris in Scientific nomenclature and Mugwort in common English. A herb with a di...stinctive aroma, it is commonly used in combination with Acupuncture to enhance the flow of Qi and Blood as well as warm the body and promote overall health when applied to certain acupuncture points of the body. Commonly found growing in temperate environments it is typically used to treat patients with conditions known as Yang deficiency or Damp, symptoms of which might include tiredness and heaviness of the limbs and body, excessive fluid buildup or oedema, patients may be slightly overweight or obese, with an aversion to cold and dislike of Winter. While the above is a typical description of a classic Yang deficiency patient, the use and effects of moxibustion are much broader than simply warming the body and improving the flow of fluids. Usually the herb is placed on top of a needle or a properly prepared acupuncture point and gently lit until extinguished. Other forms of application include the use of salves which are rubbed into the skin or even teas brewed from dried leaves. It is not uncommon in some parts of China to see Ai ye sold in local markets where older folk in particular may be seen applying the herb to customers and discussing their experiences gathered from generations of traditional use and direct observation. It is commonly stated that the herb will attract those who require its properties, and thus we often find patients who are prescribed a round of moxibustion thoroughly enjoying the distinctive subtle aroma. In my clinic I often send patients home with a stick of moxibustion where, after thorough demonstration and practice, they will partake in self care to enhance the outcomes achieved during acupuncture sessions. If moxibustion sounds like something you would like to know more about or even try for yourself, feel free to contact us at Three Treasures Acupuncture and discuss the services we can provide to enhance your health and vitality.
