21.01.2022 Milestones. They are pretty special... whether it's 10, 50, 100, 250 parkruns or MORE that you are celebrating they are important. Back in the day we used to have a milestone banner, then milestone sashes, and all kinds of celebrations on the day, like this one from the archives! Recognise anyone!?! As you may have noticed, with the relaxing of some restrictions we can once again celebrate milestones in the welcome speech; as well as here on our FB page as we always have... So if YOU, or someone you know, has a milestone this coming parkrunday and you want it celebrated then let us know and we will talk it up!! Clearly you can also let these milestones slide on by with no fanfare... you do you. But again, let us know soon if you want your special milestone noted and we will gladly get amongst it!
21.01.2022 Delayed for a minimum of two weeks at this stage. We'll keep you updated, and will be all ready to go as soon as there is a new date. In the meantime, keep safe and active.
19.01.2022 Just one week to go - who's excited?!?! The 21st November is all sorted for volunteers, but there are some spaces over the following weeks. Send us a message if you want to grab a volunteer spot. And take a look at the volunteer code for a few pointers about how it will work under the COVID framework. ... Anyone who is likely to do a scanning or timer role, please make sure you have downloaded the latest version of the volunteer app - it has some fancy new features. Here is an excellent video demonstrating the features too. https://www.youtube.com/watch

17.01.2022 The last time we had a parkrun on 21st November was back in 2015. And some forward-thinkers were getting ready to start the renovations!!
15.01.2022 The outlook is looking positive so far for the return of parkrun to SA on the 5th December - yes!!! We will know for sure by early next week As part of our preparation we will need to confirm our volunteer rosters and roll them forward. If you did have your name down for the 21st or 28th, please contact us to confirm you still can volunteer from the 5th December. So excited!! Fingers crossed all goes well over the next week
15.01.2022 Evie's 50th parkrun My daughter Evie (A5422780) is very excited to be running her 50th park run at Mt barker this Saturday. In the beginning it was me motivating the kids to come along and run on Saturday mornings. But now it’s very much her the one dragging me out the door!... She also often gets to run with her uncle and auntie (Andy and Linley) who are also regulars at Mt Barker. It has developed a genuine love of running through park run and it has been a joy to watch her enthusiasm for running grow over the time she’s been involved.
12.01.2022 The sought after volunteer position of photographer has become available this coming Saturday. If you’d like to float on in and help out, please get in touch!
10.01.2022 Are you looking to get involved in parkrun this coming week and would love the chance to wear the orange vest? The good news is we have three spots up for grabs: 1. Marshal: you get to check if the course is clear at the start, encourage participants and hold the clipboard for volunteer sign-up 2. Finish Tokens: you get hand the plastic tokens to people as they cross the line ... 3. Barcode Scanning: you get to scan the barcodes! All super easy and fun with no experience necessary. Even if you've never been out to parkrun before, we'd love to have you as volunteering is a great way of getting involved. If you're interested please comment below or drop us a message.
09.01.2022 Don’t forget, celebrating milestones is an important part of our parkrun here at Mt Barker. If you or someone in your household is approaching their 50th, 100th, 250th or Junior 10th lap around the flag, or volunteering for the 25th time, we would love to hear from you. We welcome you to send through some favourite parkrun photos, and a few words about your parkrun journey if you wish, and we will share them here on our page.
09.01.2022 Thank you all for coming along to event #381 today where our course record was smashed by RILEY COCKS, who finished in 14:37 (beating Paul Martelletti's time from 2017 of 15:15). This week 226 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 17 were first timers and 27 recorded new Personal Bests. The event was made possible by 16 volunteers:... Paul BUTLER Jacqui JOHNSON Alison FENTON Fernando FARRUGIA Arabella FARRUGIA Georgia FARRUGIA Verity FARRUGIA Linley GOLAT Debbie VOLTZ Phoebe FARRUGIA Robran COCK Kim HEPBURN Karen JARRETT Robyn LIERTON Cheryl LIERTON Peta JARRETT Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Mount Barker parkrun Results Page: https://www.parkrun.com.au/mountbark/results/latestresults/
09.01.2022 When we start up on 21 November, one of the changes you'll notice is that the run brief will be short. (2 minutes maximum - it's a challenge the event team is up for!!) It's so we keep the time standing around to a minimum and is part of the COVID plan.... It means we all need to be quiet during the run brief so the Run Director can say what they need to, and then get the event underway.
08.01.2022 Happy Birthday Event Director Jacqui Lea!! Speaking of 21st, did you know that is the date Mt Barker parkrun is starting up again? Saturday 21st November is the big day! So right now there are two things you should do:... * mark the date on your calendar * find your printed barcode (or print out a new one.... or maybe two) Having a printed barcode with you is the only way you'll get your parkrun recorded - so pretty important to remember. It's also the new way that you'll get your volunteering recorded too. So why not print a couple and keep a spare one in your car just in case? When we start up again, we will have more volunteers to scan barcodes and finish tokens and reduce the time spent waiting in line after you've finished your walk or run. More details to follow on some other new initiatives to meet COVID requirements - but in the meantime - find your printed barcode!
07.01.2022 Check out the walker and runner COVID code for when we return on 21st. Simple and easy!
07.01.2022 Not long to go now.... see you on 21 November!
06.01.2022 The 3rd annual "Longest Run" South Australia will be held on Sunday 27 June 2021. This is where you can run up to 7 parkrun courses on (or close to) the shortest daylight day of the year (Winter Solstice). There is absolutely no requirement to run all 7 parkruns you can do any number. All runs will be parkrun freedom runs. No official results will be sent and completed runs will not go towards your parkrun run counts.... Each event will run as follows: - cones will be used to highlight the start/finish area. Other than that, there will be very minimal set up in terms of e.g. course marking. - Before running each parkrun, a volunteer will explain the course to anyone who isn’t familiar with it. - All runners will SELF TIME. Your times will not be recorded by volunteers. 50 minutes have been allowed for each parkrun to ensure we have enough time to get through all 7 courses and that we’re not running in the dark (dawn: 6.56am and dusk: 5.41pm) - It would be great if runners could wait/cheer on the last runners before travelling to the next location. It is proposed to have three 'streams' - Beaches, Hills and North. All three streams will meet at one of the locations, probably after midday, and complete the remaining runs together. *** Timetable for the Day *** ***CURRENTLY UNDER REVIEW - WILL BE CONFIRMED CLOSER TO DATE*** Beaches Moana - 7.30am Christies Beach - 8.50am Reynella East - 10.15am Seacliffe Esplanade (lunch) - 11.40am West Beach - 1.30pm Pakapakanthi (all) - 3.00pm Torrens (all) - 4.30pm Hills Strathalbyn - 7.00am The Avenues - 8.30am Mt Barker - 10.00am Charleston (lunch) - 11.30am Cleland - 1.30pm Pakapakanthi (all) - 3.00pm Torrens (all) - 4.30pm North Stebonheath - 7.40am Carisbrooke - 8.55am Jubilee Way - 10.15am Mawson Lakes (Lunch after run) - 11.40am Lochiel (with Hills group) - 1.30pm Pakapakanthi (all) - 3.00pm Torrens (all) - 4.30pm Travels times include a small buffer to allow everyone to make it to each run on time. We will try and stick to the schedule as best as we can. See the event for more details: https://www.facebook.com/events/2914166822237327 (Please note that the Longest run is not covered by insurance or isn't part of parkrun Australia. Runners will run at their own risk, and the organisers may cancel/postpone the event if any conditions may cause safety concerns).
04.01.2022 Check out this cool time lapse video taken by one of our tail walkers, Josh Jaeger, this morning. Thanks for sharing, Josh!
04.01.2022 Over the last six years, Ros Lowe has been instrumental in making Mount Barker parkrun the outstanding community event we all love so much. During the COVID postponement, Ros decided it was time to finish up as Co-Event Director, and no longer be involved as part of the event team. We are so grateful for all that Ros has done over the years, and while we won't see her out the front on parkrun days, we will continue to enjoy catching up each week. ... Thank you Ros - you have changed lives for the better! We are also delighted to announce that Jacqui Lea has agreed to become Co-Event Director along with Paul Butler.

01.01.2022 Hi folks Just a friendly reminder to make sure you scan our QR code when you arrive at parkrun each week. You can find check-in codes at the shelter at our start / finish area, and also on the wall of the Council Chambers.

26.09.2021 Paul Needle's 250 After some encouragement from his daughter on the 27 of June 2015 Paul (Poppy) Needle completed his first ever parkrun in a time of 49:57. Immediately he was hooked and came back to enjoy not only the the walk/run but the extremely friendly community. After six and half years Paul is celebrating his 250th parkrun this weekend! In late 2016 Paul's partner Lynne came out to join him, one thing that they both love to do at parkrun is volunteer together and can ...often be seen tail walking. They have both completed the milestone of 25 volunteers and love helping out on Saturday mornings. When the pair are not volunteering they enjoy a walk and sometimes a jog together and with friends. One of the things Paul loves most about Parkrun is having a good chat and making friends as well as being active. Every Saturday morning you can see him having a friendly chat with his friends Wayne, Joan, and Cowboy (Greg), and spending time with his grand kids Jess and Kane. Paul has completed 208 of his 250 parkruns at Mount Barker and has visited 22 different parkruns one of which was in Scotland and another in Canada! Congratulations Paul on your 250th parkrun! words by Jess
22.09.2021 Rosa brings up 100 parkruns! Rosa is completing her 100th parkrun tomorrow. She has mostly been at Mount Barker but has also enjoyed New Year doubles at Mount Barker and Strathalbyn with UK parkruns at Durham (a few) and Sewerby. Rosa has completed many winter trail runs including Mount Misery on her birthday, City to Bay 6km and she will do Conquer the Summit 10km this year. Often Rosa does lots of talking as she walks and occasionally runs before heading to the café for a... chocolate milkshake. Well done Rosa, a fantastic achievement!
05.09.2021 *** Update: we have a photographer (thanks Toni). Still plenty of chances to help out in the coming weeks. Head over to the website and check out the roster if interested *** Just a reminder on your timeline that we are looking for a photographer for Saturday.
