18.01.2022 To finish the Duke of Edinburgh year with a bang, we launched our first Adventurous Journey. Fourteen Level 3 Compass & Bronze Award participants set off from Mount Clear College on the morning of Thursday 10th of December. Our goal was to ride to St Georges Lake in Creswick. It was a tough track with approximately 10km of pretty intense mountain biking trails. The hike challenged the students both physically and mentally with them all having to dig deep at different times t...o keep going. At the end it was all smiles as they realised that they had accomplished something hard. The personal growth from an experience like this is immeasurable. I would like to invite students to apply to complete their own award in 2021. 18.01.2022 Tai chi is often described as ‘meditation in motion,’ but it might well be called ‘medication in motion.’ There is growing evidence that this mind-body practice, which originated in China as a martial art, has value in treating or preventing many health problems. And you can get started even if you aren't in top shape or the best of health. - Harvard University Jack holds a free Tai Chi class every Saturday and Sunday morning from 9am in front of Pipers by the Lake. Come along and join in. #MountClearCollege #TaiChi #Ballarat #MyBallarat #lakewendouree

11.01.2022 Well, another year comes to a close and what a year 2020 was! 07.01.2022 #WellbeingWednesday #SeeTheGood #MCCTheGood - Each Wednesday we are focussing on a topic to promote our wellbeing and taking care of ourselves. This week we are encouraging everyone to consider a Random Act of Kindness. Kindness is one of the things that we can control during difficult times, especially at the moment when it may feel as though there is so much happening that is out of our control. During these times we may feel i...solated and disconnected, and kindness can connect us in ways to support those around us. This week across the Mount Clear College Community we are asking students, staff and community members to take part in the Great Act of Kindness Challenge towards our aged community. This could be an act of kindness toward your grandparents, neighbours and people living in care within our community. Think about how you can spread a little extra kindness and try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud. (Maya Angelou) Share with us how you have taken on the challenge of doing a random act of kindness via [email protected] or alternatively drop your items that you have created to the College reception to be delivered to our aged community. #MountClearCollege #AgedCare #Wellbeing #Community #InThisTogether

05.01.2022 #SeeTheGood #MCCTheGood #WellbeingWednesday Our Director of the Confucius Classroom, Jack Yang, has been supporting the college and it’s community for the past year promoting Chinese culture and Language. Jack has been working closely with the University of the Third Age and each week he has been visiting several aged care centres across Ballarat. He is now providing a weekly tai chi class via Zoom to the residents. Mount Clear College will be expanding the program by film...ing some sessions and providing a link to other centres in the community to help our aged community members through these challenging times. Join Jack at 8:30am on Wednesday, 26 August for a five minute trial of Tai Chi via Facebook. With regular practice, Tai Chi can increase flexibility, strength and improve cardiovascular health.
