24.01.2022 Lifeflight visits Mount Crosby State School On Friday 28 August the students of Mount Crosby State School were fortunate to have a special visit from the RACQ Lifeflight helicopter with its full crew. The students were able to ask questions of the flight crew and learn about the important work they do each day in taking care of injured people and saving lives. LifeFlight

20.01.2022 Imagine creating an amazing world on paper and then being able to bring the world to life. This is exactly what the year 2 children were able to do using the augmented reality app ‘Quiver’. As part of their visual arts unit they were required to create their own small world. The children were surprised and delighted to see their world pop off the page during one of their digital technology lessons.

20.01.2022 Mount Crosby swimming sensations.... A fabulous day at the pool on Tuesday - a perfect day for a swim, or two or even maybe three! Thanks to all of the staff who helped organise and run a hugely successful day. Congratulations to all of the students for their wonderful behaviour and especially to those who were speedy enough to become AGE CHAMPIONS.

19.01.2022 EcoMarines Collection of Recyled Cans and Plastic Drink Bottles Please keep those recycled cans and water bottles coming into the school for the EcoMarine students to collect as part of their fundraising efforts to renovate part of our school grounds. Thank you to all those who have been donating the cans and plastic water bottles.... Recycled cans and plastic water bottles can be put into the blue recycle bin that can be found in the senior undercover area before school each morning.

19.01.2022 Parking and Collection of Students After School We would like to remind parents to please be aware of the parking and drop off areas on Mount Crosby Road, Bland Court and on the Service Road at the front of the school. These areas have signage indicating what restrictions are in place. We would also ask parents not to park across residents’ driveways in Bundoora Drive, thus allowing residents to be able to enter and exit their properties. The council and the police do monitor these areas and may issue fines if people are not following the rules. We appreciate the continued school community support in helping us to ensure the safety of our students at the afternoon collection time.

16.01.2022 i-Educate 2020 Virtual Launch - NASA live link to the International Space Station As part of the i-Educate Virtual Launch on the 24 August, our School Captains, Amelia and Campbell were chosen to have a once in a lifetime opportunity to talk with the Captain Christopher Cassidy, one of the astronauts on the international Space Station. We would like to thank all of the students from Mount Crosby State School who contributed questions that they would like to ask the astronau...ts. These questions were submitted (along with questions from two other schools) and a final selection was made. Amelia and Campbell had an amazing time last night. Along with 4 other students, they were able to ask questions of Christopher Cassidy (Captain, U.S. Navy) and NASA astronaut as the International Space Station passed over New Hampshire in the United States. The International Space Station orbits the earth once every 90 minutes, so this means that every 45 minutes the astronauts experience a sunset and a sunrise. In total, Christopher Cassidy has spent 182 days in space and completed 6 space walks. During the 6 months the astronauts will be in space they will also complete a number of experiments.

16.01.2022 Road Safety Week 24 to 28 August 2020 Attached are some of 1M's Road Safety Posters Our students recently participated in the RACQ Streets Ahead Road Safety Program where they learnt how to be safe when they are travelling in a car, riding their bike or walking to and from school. As this week is Road Safety Week the Year 1 students posters are a reminder on how to travel safely on our roads to keep everyone safe.

13.01.2022 Formula Girls 3D Printing Project update Here are just a few of the groups ideas that they are designing ready for printing. Group 1 Our idea is to make a portable recycling container that can help to keep our environment litter free. It can be used to separate the rubbish you might have for example if you go on a picnic. The portable recycling container has three compartments: items that can be put into compost, recycling items such as plastic bottles or aluminium cans... and then general waste. This will help to protect our environment and our wildlife. Group 6 - Our idea is to design a water bottle/pencil holder that can attach to our desks and there for prevent water condensation getting onto our work. The water bottle holder will have a base that can fit a 1 litre water bottle and will have an adjustable part to secure the bottle into the holder. On the bottom there will be a condensation tray that can clip in and out so that you can empty any water that collects. Attached to the holder will be a pencil holder so that you can have the pencils you need readily available. Group 7: We are designing a detachable headphone holder that can attach to the side of the computer screen so that it can be stored safely while not in use. It will also have an attachment so that pencils can be stored. Group 8 We are designing a dance equipment holder that can attach to the back of a car seat while you are traveling to the dance studio but also has the ability to stand independently on the dance floor of the studio. It will have two arms on each side which can hold different types of dance shoes. It will also have a basket in the middle to hold snacks, water bottle and on each side of the basket it will have hooks to hold hair ties. Group 9: We are creating a device that clips onto the back of a car set for long car journeys. It will have a compartment for a phone or an ipad so that you dont have to hold onto them. There is also a cup holder to store your drink and underneath there is a compartment to store snacks. Group 12: We are designing a Desk Plant Pot Holder with a Twist. Our desks can get messy so we have incorporated the idea of a plant pot holder that can store things. You can store your items in a cute space together as well as having a piece of nature in your room. You can put the design on your desk, small table or bench and store your items in a simple but smart organiser.

11.01.2022 A gentle reminder that parents are still not permitted to enter school grounds. This includes parents who arrive to either drop off a child late, or collect a child early. In these cases, please call the office on 3813 2222 and a staff member will come out to the gate to assist. One parent of each child who is getting an award on assembly is invited to attend assembly each Friday. Parents MUST RSVP and can only enter and exit via the gate on Bland Court they will then need to complete the sign on sheet which will be available at the door. It is very important that everyone respects and adheres to these guidelines so that our students and staff are kept safe. Thank you for your patience and cooperation, it is very much appreciated.

08.01.2022 We had many budding sculptors in our prep classes on Monday when we had artists from Raw Art visit to guide us through making robots out of clay.

04.01.2022 Our Prep students enjoyed the day at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary investigating the homes of the animals and the geographical features of the place. It was a day of great scientific and geographical discussions to consolidate the learning they have been doing in class. And, as a bonus, great fun too!

02.01.2022 Last Tuesday, our year 1 students had a visit from Ocean Life to enhance our Science learning. We talked about the ocean as a habitat and the importance of looking after it. We even got to experience touch tanks!

02.01.2022 Mt Crosby State School Virtual Parade On Friday 12 June Mt Crosby State School held its first Virtual Parade. It was a great experience to connect with all of the students in the school at the same time and the student leaders were excited to play their part in this process. We hope that next week we will be able to record the virtual parade and put it onto our Facebook page for our school community to watch.

01.01.2022 PJ Day is back on Thursday! Everyone can roll out of bed and rock on into school in their PJs to show our support for Chaplaincy. This year thas been a tough one for all of us so just this once, we are making it FREE! Sorry no muffins either. The ENTIRE school will have Morning Tea together on the oval - as long as the weather is kind to us!
