22.01.2022 Farewell to one of our school favourites, the amazing Higgins. Higgins passed away yesterday at the ripe old age of 6. He was such an amazing school pet, who was adored by many. Thank you for all of the beautiful hugs and memories Higgins, the SLU kids will miss you a lot. And thanks to Christen for bringing this plucky little character into our lives. School photos won’t be the same without Higgins taking front and centre!
22.01.2022 Roll out the red carpet, they’re here!! A warm welcome to our new preps who had a wonderful first day today exploring their classroom, the grounds, meeting the teachers and making new friends. Welcome to Mt Dandy little ones, we are rapt to have you as part of our school community!
20.01.2022 Is that a Preppie or a work of art? Preps were overjoyed to be the star of Grade 6 Buddy time this afternoon!
19.01.2022 Gee we love the new Grade 6 bomber jackets! And well done to Eve for the fabulous artwork.
19.01.2022 A belated but heartfelt THANK YOU to our wonderful educational aides, Olivia and Paula, from last week's Teacher Aide Apprecitation Week. Olivia and Paula are an integral part of our school community, offering the most incredible support to our students and teachers. They work tirelessly to support our children academically, socially and emotionally. In a year of enormous challenge, both Olivia and Paula have graciously embraced extra responsibilities and been critical in helping us adapt and succeed. Thank you so much, Olivia and Paula, we are very lucky to have you!
18.01.2022 To raise awareness for Threatened Species Day, the SRC are organising ‘Owloween’ - a fun chance for students to dress up as their favourite animal and reflect on the importance of conservation. Students are encouraged to create their own animal costumes (some low key face paint or animal ears would be perfect and the Junior School will be making masks in class). Please could those participating, please bring a gold coin donation.
18.01.2022 ‘Those who know, do. Those who understand, teach’ - Aristotle. On World Teachers’ Day, our collective Mt Dandy hearts are bursting with gratitude for our incredible teachers and their invaluable contribution to enriching the lives of our students. Every year they bring their best but this year has asked for something much more - it would be fair to say that parents have stood back in awe wondering how on earth they do it! In normal circumstances, we would lavish them with app...reciation in person but this year, we must do so virtually. So for those who haven’t yet, please let your teachers know how much you value them by sending a quick note. Laura, Alison, Christen, Jody, Simone, Janet, Krista, Joelene, Anne, Sarah, Michelle, Anna, Liz, Penny, Claire and Mariko, THANK YOU so much for all you do for our students - you are the heart of what makes our school so special. See more
18.01.2022 We hope you have had fun creating your Book Week costumes and look forward to seeing you in your literary finest tomorrow!
17.01.2022 Dear all, Whilst we face the uncertainty of when we will be able to re-open school, we have an opportunity to temporarily re-locate to Gladesville Primary which is in Kilsyth. Gladesville is a welcoming little school of only 60 pupils with plenty of room for us to open up our own temporary ‘mini-Mt D’ space on their campus. ... We absolutely understand how ‘big’ anything feels at the moment, particularly things like idea of temporarily relocating school. But we also understand how keen everyone is to see our children back together and having some sense of connection with friends and teachers. That is why, before we confirm arrangements at Gladesville, we wanted to get a sense on how many people would be interested in this temporary arrangement and those who won’t be. A text is being sent to all families and we would appreciate if you could reply with your thoughts. If we have enough interested, we can look to start up our ‘mini Mt D’ as soon as tomorrow. Take care and we look forward to hearing from you.
16.01.2022 Good morning Mt D families, Paula, our lovely integration aide, would like to help by making some meals for any families in need. If you or someone in our school community would like a home cooked meal, can you please send us a DM?... Thanks, Sally.
15.01.2022 Crazy hair, don’t care! We loved seeing all of your whacky hair dos today, that sure was a FUN FRIDAY! Have a wonderful weekend folks.
15.01.2022 The Mount D staff made this little video to welcome you to their house and put a smile on your face during remote learning. We hope it works. We miss you Mt. D kids and parents! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XcPHqfJ7f-4&feature=youtu.be
15.01.2022 Students enjoyed getting a jump on the Cup Day holiday yesterday in the inaugural Mt Dandenong Cup. Junior school students worked in teams to race against their friends on some amazing student made horses. Congratulations to the Mt Dandy Racers who brought home the winning cup in first place. A fun day for all involved!!
15.01.2022 Hello from Spoonville Mt D! So wonderful to see this community of cheery folk blossom and bloom every day. And they even got to enjoy a bit of snow last week to boot! If you would like to visit Spoonville or add your own to the collection, a reminder that Spoonville resides in the garden beds outside of the Organic Fanatic.
14.01.2022 Good news, Mt D. There is now a Shower & Power site up at the Olinda Footy Club - please spread the word amongst our families.
12.01.2022 It’s been hard watching many of the kids’ much loved school events not happen this year but now adults, it is our turn to be mopey as tonight would have been our ‘Welcome to the UK’ trivia night. But fear not, we will be ready to go for 2021 and with two years to prepare, we can only imagine how big it will be - we may need to take over Wembley Stadium itself! To whet your appetite, here’s a quick UK trivia question... no cheating and first correct answer wins a jar of marmal...ade. What is the Queen’s nickname within her family and bonus points for how she got it!
11.01.2022 A happy and uplifting story out of Wednesday’s storms from one of our dear school families. Thank goodness you are all safe and well. Love, from all of us

11.01.2022 No idea where Christen is today but her cousin, Pirate Pete, popped in to Fun Friday to play some fun pirate games ahead of tomorrow’s Talk Like a Pirate Day. Have a great last day of term, me hearties!
10.01.2022 Happy Principal’s Day to Sally Alderton, our unflappable, dedicated, gracious and caring principal who, despite the extremely difficult circumstances of 2020, has still made this a year to be proud of. We are so grateful for all that you do for our school and our families.
10.01.2022 A reminder that tomorrow is school photo day! So pleased we have been able to squeeze this in despite all the disruption to on site learning this year.
09.01.2022 Fabulous to see our Footy Finals Day captured in today's Ranges Trader Star Mail!
09.01.2022 We all know that books open the door to our imagination, so it seems fitting that students have taken over their classroom doors to celebrate some of their favourite reads this Book Week! Our wonderful librarian, Olivia, has also been busy creating lots of magical book games and competitions - how lucky we are to have her leading our library program, thank you Olivia! Stay tuned for some fabulous pics of Monday's Book Week parade...
09.01.2022 Thanks to everyone for embracing our first remote assembly with such enthusiasm! And a reminder that Monday is parent/teacher interviews so no school for students. Have a lovely Friday and we hope you all enjoy the weekend too.
08.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC Week, a week celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and the contributions of First Nations people. This year's theme is #alwayswasalwayswillbe Here at Mt Dandenong Primary, we're on Wurundjeri Country. Elders past, present and emerging have been - and continue to be - an integral part of our history. Students have had a fascinating week learning about Indigenous culture, and have been encouraged by Indigenous community members to explore their art and culture.
08.01.2022 Ta-da! A huge congratulations to our 2021 school leaders who were presented with their badges at school assembly today. From school captains and house captains, to arts, media, enviro captains and beyond, each and every one of you will play an important role in leading our school community and we feel very fortunate to have such positive role models at the helm. Special thanks to Anthony Raitman, Area Executive for the Outer East, for stepping in at the last minute to present leaders with their badges with Mininister Merlino being a late withdrawal due to a few other big announcements coming out of Spring St today.....!

05.01.2022 A reminder that the Premier’s Reading Challenge closes this Friday 18th September. Make sure you register all of your wonderful lockdown reads and we look forward to students who have successfully completed the challenge receiving their certificates in term four.
05.01.2022 Dear Mt Dandy families, At this stage, the DET has approved school closure for tomorrow, Tue 15 June. Unfortunately due to the inaccessibility of the school site, the lack of power (impacts heating, phones, septic toilet system and lighting) and the fact that the site still needs to be properly assessed for safety, we cannot return to school tomorrow. I know this is extremely disappointing. We all want to be back at school with our students as soon as possible and I am workin...g to make this happen as quickly as possible. For the time being, we will continue remote learning for those of you who can and want to access learning via Google Classroom. Our teachers with power and internet will provide some learning tasks for the students. There will not be any meets or feedback/ correction. Please know that engaging with remote learning is strictly optional and is there to help you if you want your children to do some work. There is certainly no expectation that this be accessed we know there is so much going on for you all right now. What is important is that we take care of you and each other. Please email me or call the school number (it is being diverted) if I can assist in any way. We have a community wanting to assist in any way they can to, so please don’t hesitate to get in contact with me so I can assist you. The decision to keep the school closed or to reopen will be reassessed daily. I know this is difficult. I will endeavour to let you know as soon as I do of any decisions made by the DET as soon as I can. Take care, Sally

05.01.2022 We couldn’t be happier with the fabulous landscaping works around the front of our school! Lots of fun places for students to explore when we are all back on site. Big thanks to Richard Bellemo and his team for a stellar job. Will share pics of when the cherry blossoms are in bloom too, it will look even more beautiful!
05.01.2022 Things got a bit wild at school today with a menagerie of endangered species taking over classrooms! All donations will be going towards wildlife conservation.

03.01.2022 There has been a lot of talk about elections this year but this is the only one you need to worry about! As part of the update of our school uniform policy, School Council would like to introduce our own Mt Dandy school dress unique to our school. To help inform this important decision, we ask that families could please vote for their favourite of the two options via the Survey Monkey link on Compass by midday tomorrow (Thurs). We would look forward to unveiling the winning dress and a few other improvements to our school uniform over the coming weeks.
01.01.2022 We are so excited to welcome our new 2021 Preps! Whilst we won't be seeing their excited faces in the flesh, we are looking forward to our special remote Prep Transition Program, kicking off tomorrow with story time, some craft and a tour of the Prep classroom. See you all then, Preppies!
01.01.2022 Olivia in our office has been busy finalising our Prep enrolments for 2021! Keep a look out for your formal letter of offer that will arrive soon. We look forward to welcoming you to our wonderful Mount Dandy school community in the coming weeks.
