13.01.2022 Notes on 2020 sale bulls. Twenty eight bull calves were born in autumn 2018. Of these, eleven were steered after weaning and another withdrawn from sale as they did not meet our standards. Two have been used in the herd and retained while the remainder are now being offered for sale. We have always placed stress on calving ease. Ten of the fourteen bulls have below average birth weight EBVs and thirteen have positive calving ease EBVs.... The one area in which we lag behind the Angus breed is in intramuscular fat and we are concentrating on this. Seven of the bulls have IMF EBVs in the top 5% of the breed, four in the top 10% and three in the top 20%. When it comes to Selection Index Values, six bulls rank in the top 5% of the breed for all four indexes and eight in the top 10% or better. We urge you to study closely the figures for each individual to see which best fits your needs. Bringing up the bar graph will allow you to see the whole picture at a glance. All bulls have been pasture reared and are being supplemented with A1 vetch hay. We will be taking part in Stock and Land Beef Week on Monday 3rd February 2020 and would be pleased to see you then or at any other time by appointment.
