24.01.2022 The Australian Industry and Skills Committee, sub-committee are seeking stakeholder feedback on what critical skills are needed by workers and businesses as they respond to the economic impact of COVID-19, and where VET training products could help to provide these critical skills rapidly. This could be, for example, through the creation of new skill sets, modification of existing training products, or the development of resources to support training product delivery. The sub...-committee also welcomes stakeholder feedback on other workforce skilling or training product-related issues associated with the pandemic. Issues may be in relation to immediate skill needs and/or impacts for training delivery, as well as issues/impacts that are likely to be felt over the medium to longer term as a result of COVID-19. To provide feedback go to https://www.aisc.net.au/content/raise-covid-19-issue

23.01.2022 MOUNT GAMBIER CHAMBER OF COMMERCE TURNS 70: Originally formed as Mount Gambier Traders Association over a century ago, the Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce was... born in 1950. We are so proud that 70 years later the Chamber has maintained its strong presence and still proudly represents and advocates for the Mount Gambier business community," president Hayley Neumann said. Unfortunately, due to the events of the current year, we haven’t been able to celebrate earlier or hold our annual awards, however we believe now is the time to come together and recognise our business community who have really shown strong resilience over the past seven months. We have a wonderful night planned to celebrate the past, present and future of the Chamber and invite anyone interested to come along and enjoy the night with us. 23.01.2022 Even though we are seeing low numbers of new COVID-19 cases, we still need to be prepared for further cases. The COVIDSafe app is an important tool that speeds... up contacting people exposed to COVID-19. It helps our public health officials to contact those that may be affected to discuss the next steps and limit the spread. The app uses Bluetooth to look for other devices that have the app installed. It takes a note when that occurs, securely logging the other users’ encrypted reference code. The date and time, distance and duration of the contact are generated on the user’s phone and also recorded. The app does not track your location. This information is only made available to our health officials once a user is confirmed to have COVID-19. Learn more about the app: https://bit.ly/2SpIlnt

If you didn’t receive your invoice for renewal or wish to join please email [email protected] We are happy to announce that payments can now be processed via Square by clicking View and pay online now on your invoice. We see this as an easier solution for our members.... If you previously had an automatic direct debit setup for payment, please be advised this has now changed. The MGCOC has decided to cancel our EziDebit payment system due the consideration of members circumstances at this time. In light of the current landscape, MGCOC Board is offering payment solutions over the next twelve months to help members facing financial hardship at this time. This support involves providing a reduction on your membership, or flexible payment arrangements, allowing us the opportunity to keep working with you to navigate this period and build for beyond. Please contact Hayley Neumann ([email protected]) for a discreet arrangement to be made. The volunteer executive Board of the MGCOC are passionate and committed to our work representing and advocating for our local business community. We look forward to the year ahead as we continue to provide business in Mount Gambier a strong voice and presence.

You don't need to be a member to come along - get your tickets now before they sell out. https://www.stickytickets.com.au/J46YY "Super stoked to be heading back to one of my all time favourite corners of our awesome state for a bit of a chin wag about... stuff. ... Usually I'd write something really inappropriate and drop a few swear words here but on my best behaviour for this post. If you're in the neighbourhood be sure to come along and say hi. (To be clear, it’s not ME that’s turning 70!)"
14.01.2022 Some wise words, from an unknown author, as restrictions are lifted: "As businesses start to reopen, please understand they may have just survived one of the hardest professional and personal challenges they’ve ever faced. While they’re excited to open, the owners and employees are still stressed. They’re not through the woods yet.... Please don’t go to these businesses and complain about changes that were forced upon them due to lost revenue, lost employees, new policies and protocols. They don’t have the same business they had 2 months ago. They’re doing everything they can to adapt to the situation. But everything is different for them - as a customer you’ll likely never understand behind the scenes. Be kind. Be compassionate. Have patience. They’re still trying to recover from battle number one and their next battle of rebuilding has just begun. Support local businesses!" #bekind #wereallinthistogether

10.01.2022 As our neighbouring State faces further restrictions it definitely makes an impact on the Mount Gambier business community. 05.01.2022 This week, to celebrate #nationalvolunteersweek, we've been highlighting and celebrating the volunteering efforts of our Sinclair Wilson colleagues. Mount Gamb...ier's Hayley Neumann is another of the Sinclair Wilson team who generously and passionately offers her time and skill in order to give back to the area where she and her family live. Currently President of the Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce, Hayley has found the current economic pressures amidst COVID-19 have made the Chamber's role more important than ever before. "We have an amazing business community who recently have shown just how innovative and resilient they are and I love being part of that," Hayley says. "Recently we’ve been advocating to Local, State and Federal Government on behalf of our members which have seen some great outcomes which I look forward to doing more of in the future." As for why she gives so much as a volunteer? Hayley's answer is much like any dedicated volunteer; "I do it because I love Mount Gambier and the Limestone Coast and I want the region to thrive for future generations." Thanks to Hayley for all she - and her fellow - volunteers do to ensure these communities do thrive, not just this week, but the other 51 weeks of the year as well.

05.01.2022 Today is a sad day in Mount Gambier’s history. The Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce board and I would like to express our condolences to The Border Watch board, Brett Kennedy, Dennis Jackson, journalists, staff and families as well as all that have put their blood, sweat and tears into bringing us the city newspaper over the past 159 years. The Border Watch has, for many years, been a supporter and member of the Chamber and has regularly consulted with us and reported on c...urrent business issues, our advocacy and events. They have also been a long-time sponsor of The Outstanding Business Awards including The Border Watch Hall of Fame Award. I personally, over the past year, have had many dealings with TBW team and have been impressed with their professionalism, enthusiasm, and respect. I will miss the regular interviews, photo shoots and laughs. To close a business that is the cornerstone of its local community would have been a heartbreakingly hard decision. It really is a harsh reality check of the current world we live in and why we all need to support local. We are thinking of all impacted by today’s announcement and wish them only the best for their future. Hayley Neumann PRESIDENT Mount Gambier Chamber of Commerce
