25.01.2022 Now THAT’S a big tree - Victoria State Emergency Service units including our colleagues at Woodend and Gisborne have been very busy overnight amidst heavy rainfall, damaging winds and thunderstorms. A clear demonstration of the dangers posed by trees during storms and the challenge of clearing them, early this morning a huge gum tree fell accross the Goulburn Valley Highway between Thornton and Eildon. Alexandra SES crews and a small excavator were able to remove most of the ...tree but a much larger timber industry excavator was floated in to remove the 1.5m diameter main trunk. If you encounter fallen trees or debris over local roads, or require emergency assistance due to storm damage, please contact the SES on 132 500. For life-threatening situations, please call Triple Zero (000). Alexandra SES

20.01.2022 TAKE CARE IN HIGH WINDS This morning’s tree down over McBean Avenue in Macedon was a great example of why it’s so important to take care on the roads during and after severe wind events - debris of all shapes and sizes can come down in high winds and pose a considerable hazard, especially when it’s a big fallen gum tree lying just over a rise on a blind corner like this one. Thanks again to our local volunteers in orange for rising early to clear the tree - importan...t work like this prevents motor vehicle accidents that in turn saves lives. If you encounter fallen trees or debris over local roads, or require emergency assistance due to storm damage please contact the SES on 132 500. For life-threatening situations, please call Triple Zero (000). SES Gisborne Unit

18.01.2022 Zero new cases. Zero deaths. Zero active cases. It’s a triple-donut-day.... There are now zero active cases of COVID-19 in Victoria with the Victorian Department of Health & Human Services confirming that the state’s last coronavirus patient was cleared of the virus and discharged from hospital yesterday - well done everyone, what an amazing achievement as a community in the face of such a challenging public health emergency! Fingers crossed for many more #donutdays to come.

14.01.2022 TIME TO PLAN & PREPARE FOR FIRE Summer has begun and the days are steadily becoming warmer - grasslands and forests across the Macedon Ranges are drying out, as are the fine fuels surrounding homes and littering properties: leaves, bark and twigs that if left lying around could become the embers that aid the spread of a bushfire. It’s time to prepare your home and property, and to sit down with your family and neighbours to plan how and when you’ll leave on days of signi...ficant fire danger this season. Importantly, it’s also a time to plan what you’ll do to survive if it’s too late to leave and you have to shelter in your home. Attend one of our upcoming community information sessions with Hesket Kerrie CFA Brigade, Riddells Creek Fire Brigade, Agriculture Victoria, the Macedon Ranges Wildlife Network and Gisborne Veterinary Clinic on the 6th, 9th and 13th of December to find out what to expect this bushfire season and how to prepare your home, property, family and animals: www.facebook.com/mountmacedoncfa/events. Create or update your bushfire survival plan: www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/your-bushfire-plan. Prepare your home and property: www.cfa.vic.gov.au/plan-prepare/how-to-prepare-your-property. If you need our assistance or advice, contact our Community Safety Coordinator by email at [email protected] or simply send us a message via Facebook.

13.01.2022 That time Fire and Rescue NSW wanted to make 100% sure you didn’t forget about daylight saving starting tomorrow and the need to check your smoke alarms are working so they danced around the fire station to an aptly-named 80s Billy Joel classic with some clocks and smoke alarms, and an Australian TikTok star.

12.01.2022 Don't forget to join us in December for one or more of our upcoming community bushfire information sessions. We are joining forces with our colleagues at Riddells Creek Fire Brigade and Hesket Kerrie CFA Brigade to deliver these sessions with several special guests including representatives from the Macedon Ranges Wildlife Network and DELWP Loddon Mallee. 10.01.2022 Last year more than 50% of road deaths occurred in regional Victoria, and the stats aren't looking much better for 2020. This year has been challenging enough for us all so please take care on the roads as we head into the festive season - don't speed, don't drive under the influence, and please put down your phone when behind the wheel. From the drivers and passengers, to their loved ones, responding emergency services personnel and bystanders - many people are impacted by ...each and every motor vehicle accident. Find out more about the Transport Accident Commission (TAC)'s latest campaign to end injury and death on Victorian roads here: www.towardszero.vic.gov.au/. Well done to Carlsruhe CFA, Woodend CFA and the Woodend SES on their prompt and skilled response in extricating the driver - here’s hoping his recovery is a speedy one.

09.01.2022 Several Victorians have already been killed this year by failing trees during severe weather events, and multiple trees have already fallen over roads throughout the Macedon Ranges amidst today’s windy conditions. With a severe weather warning in place for strong and gusty damaging northerly winds over the next few days in our area, the risk of falling trees is again elevated and the Victoria State Emergency Service have issued the following advice. Be aware that increas...ed moisture in the soil from recent rain may have compromised tree structures. Trees impacted by recent storm events may have dislodged branches or weakened structures which only elevates the risk Monitor conditions and remain vigilant to the risk on Saturday. If you are outdoors and there are strong winds, avoid walking or sitting underneath trees. Monitor conditions and try to time your exercise or visit to the park outside of the strongest winds. The safest place to be during a storm is indoors Avoid unnecessary travel - don’t be on the road if you don’t have to particularly in leafy areas. If you must be on the roads please drive to the conditions. If you encounter fallen trees or debris over local roads, or require emergency assistance due to storm damage please contact the SES on 132 500. For life-threatening situations, please call Triple Zero (000).

06.01.2022 Thanks to the CFA (Country Fire Authority) media team for featuring the reflections of our members Hamish and Phil on their time spent on deployment to New South Wales during the last bushfire season. Several Mount Macedon volunteers answered the call to deploy during the devastating ‘Black Summer’ and we’re very grateful not only to them but also to their families, friends and employers for supporting them to do so.

04.01.2022 Well done to Brad and the Mt Macedon Trading Post team for their kind support of local frontline workers in partnership with the Gisborne & District Community Bank Branch.

03.01.2022 We're all getting ready for the bushfire season, are you? DELWP Loddon Mallee and Forest Fire Management Victoria have just announced the arrival of two firefighting helicopters for the 2020/2021 bushfire season. These very capable aerial appliances will provide an invaluable boost to firefighting capability in Central Victoria which of course includes the Macedon Ranges. ... The large water bombing helicopter has the ability to release 3,000 litres of water in just one drop, while the smaller helicopter carries the Air Attack Supervisor who directs the large helicopter to drop water where it is most effective for stopping the spread of the fire. The helicopters are critical in stopping the spread of fires quickly and often arrive at a fire before ground crews, enabling the to provide immediate response in the early stages before then supporting firefighters on the ground. The two helicopters will be on standby every day during the fire season meaning they'll be ready to respond quickly to fires across our region. Find out more about the aerial firefighting fleet from Vic Emergency here: www.emv.vic.gov.au//victorias-aerial-firefighting-fleet-to. Thanks to all those up in the air every summer working hard to protect lives and property from above. Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning

03.01.2022 THANK YOU SES How incredibly lucky we all are to have these amazing people turning-out at all hours of the day and night, and often amidst significant storm activity, to keep us safe - well done and thank you to the Gisborne and Woodend SES units.

02.01.2022 This season's bushfire outlook might appear as if we're in for a quiet summer, but the Bushfire and Natural Hazards CRC's message is clear: 'normal fire risk does not mean there is no risk'. With bush, scrub and grass fires having already occurred in parts of the state, and multiple Total Fire Bans issued, the 2020-21 fire season for Victoria is now well underway.
