25.01.2022 The Rotary Foundation, creating lasting change in the world.

24.01.2022 61 years ago today, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The aim of World Children’s Day is to improve child welfare and to promote & celebrate children’s rights and sadly this year the COVID 19 pandemic has caused a crisis in children’s rights. The most widely ratified international human rights treaty in history, the Convention ...sets out the rights of children, such as the right to healthcare, education, clean water, protection from violence and the right to have their say in decisions that affect them. 19.01.2022 An apple a day keeps the doctor away but did you know that an apple a day keeps polio at bay? Last year, District 2530, Fukushima, sold Fuji apples, a local product of Fukushima, with the word END POLIO marked on them & raised more than $3000 for polio eradication! #endpolionow https://blog.rotary.org//juicy-apples-deliver-end-polio-/

18.01.2022 November is coming to an end but there is no end to the good that a donation to The Rotary Foundation can achieve. For the 12th consecutive year, The Rotary Foundation has received the highest rating four stars from Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities. "Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that The Rotary Foundation exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in your area of work", says Michael Thatcher, president and chief executive officer of Charity Navigator. "This exceptional designation sets the Foundation apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness." https://www.rotary.org/en/about-rotary/rotary-foundation #rotaryfoundationmonth

14.01.2022 It’s NAIDOC Week this week. NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC is celebrated not only in Indigenous communities, but by Australians from all walks of life. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community. NAIDOC originally stood for ‘National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee’. This year’s theme of Always Was, Always Will Be. recognises that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. https://www.naidoc.org.au/about/naidoc-week #NAIDOCWeek

13.01.2022 The Rotary Foundation - doing good in the world.

12.01.2022 Last week, RC of Mount Martha members were able to return to Mornington Park Primary School to help build planter boxes and fill them with soil for the school’s kitchen garden project. We still need to plant shrubs /trees around the perimeter of the outdoor seating/playing area to complete a very nice area for students. The District Grant for this project is very much appreciated!! #foundationmonth #district9820 #peopleofaction

12.01.2022 Pneumonia is the single biggest infectious killer of adults and children claiming the lives of 2.5 million, including 672,000 children, in 2019. COVID-19 could add 1.9 million to the death toll this year. Many countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America, struggling with heavy burdens of COVID-19 and child pneumonia deaths, will need effective strategies to fight both. Investments in infection prevention (masks, social distancing, hand washing etc), and improved diagnosis and treatment (with pulse oximetry and oxygen) can do double-duty during the pandemic and save lives beyond. 12.01.2022 A Rotary Global Grant provided a scholarship to enable Mina Chiang to study for her master’s degree in Development Studies in the world’s best-ranked program, the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) at the University of Sussex. This has empowered Mina to fight against modern slavery. Read Mina’s inspiring story and see what giving one person a Global Grant Scholarship has achieved in the fight against modern slavery. https://blog.rotary.org//my-miracle-and-ending-modern-sl/ https://humanity-consultancy.com https://ragas.online #rotaryfoundation #foundationmonth #doinggoodintheworld

12.01.2022 Globally, 243 million women and girls were abused by an intimate partner in the past year. Meanwhile, less than 40 per cent of women who experience violence report it or seek help. As countries implemented lockdown measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus, violence against women, especially domestic violence, intensified in some countries, calls to helplines have increased five-fold. In others, formal reports of domestic violence have decreased as survivors find it h...arder to seek help and access support through the regular channels. School closures and economic strains left women and girls poorer, out of school and out of jobs, and more vulnerable to exploitation, abuse, forced marriage, and harassment.
