18.01.2022 NAIDOC WEEK | Year 10 Physical Activity and Sport Studies is currently studying a unit called ‘The Wide World of Sports’. This unit looks at the Ancient and Modern Olympics, Paralympics, Highland Games, the Asian Games and Australian Indigenous Games. The girls each researched a traditional Aboriginal game, including how it brought the community together and significance to the indigenous culture. Students then had to modify the game using equipment at the College and teach t...he game to the class. Games included: - Kai (Torres Strait Islands) a number of players stood in a circle and sang the kai wed (ball song) as they hit a ball up in the air with the palms of their hands, in which players attempt to keep the ball in the air as long as they can. The game was played using the thick, oval, deep-red fruit of the kai tree. - Birray (North Queensland) comes from the Wik-Mungkan language meaning ‘march fly’. A game of tag where the tagger closes their eyes and attempts to catch the other players. If the tagger is successful, they make an unpleasant bug noise to represent the march fly’s buzz. - Tha’an (North Queensland) similar to tug o war, means ‘to push’ and was used to test men’s strength and stamina. It was traditionally played with a pole by young and older men at the end of the day in North Queensland. Students modified the game by using a rope. - Boogalah (Juwalarai people, NSW) is a game where the ball (made of sewn-up kangaroo skin) was thrown backwards into the group with an inner and outer circle. #NAIDOC2020 #BenniesClassof2022

Student groups were challenged to create a piece of work that conveys an important message about one of these efforts; this could be a theatrical performance, dance, protest song, political cartoon or digital campaign poster. The groups will present their work in the coming weeks. #NAIDOC2020 #BenniesClassof2022

01.01.2022 BENNIES BIG SHOT | What does it take for a business to respond to a changing environment? Our Year 9 and 10 Commerce students found out with an engaging project. The inaugural Bennies Big Shot involved small groups pitching their business idea to a Shark Tank judging panel calling for investment in their developed product. Each business outlined their product, target market, market research, company name and logo, promotion and advertising, website and online capability as ...well as their investment opportunity pitch. The pitched product had to address the current market environment. The judging panel then selected two teams to take their business pitch to the ultimate market MSB COLLEGE ASSEMBLY. We are pleased to announce that the BENNIES BIG SHOT for 2020 is Year 10 Commerce Team: SIYA Safety - LOWKEY. The team’s investment pitch focused on the safety of women with the manufacture of jewellery that functions as a safety device. #BenniesBigShot #BenniesClassof2022
