21.01.2022 WORLD CHILDREN'S DAY | We’re highlighting the importance of giving young people a voice. The internet is a great way for young people to learn about and contribute to different communities, however it’s important that they know how to do this safely. Children and young people need the guidance of parents, carers and teachers to navigate online challenges and prevent harm. For resources visit: www.thinkuknow.org.au/resources #WorldChildrensDay

13.01.2022 LET'S PRAY | May the grace of the Advent season consume my heart as I prepare for the coming of the Lord. Let me not, especially this year, overlook the hope and joy... which comes from fully embracing the traditions of a Catholic celebration of Advent and Christmas. See more

13.01.2022 MERCY IN ACTION | Around the middle of term four I was approached by three year 10 students, Mackenzie Smy, Daniel Toohey and Angus Bewick. The Boys came to me seeking help to solidify the idea they had come up with, which was to manufacture a park bench for Warren Part in memory of his recently passed son Brady. The boys and I figured out a rough design and went from there. Mackenzie (with the help of his mum) sourced two Cadagi gum slabs from Ms Traylea Sextons property and... the three lads machined and finished them here in the workshop. Five weeks passed and the boys continued to come in during lunch and morning tea breaks to work on the project until the last dash was run last week after school as the boys applied the last lick of paint and assembled the job. Thursday the 26th of November was the last day of term for students and the student rewards day. Mackenzie and Daniel planned their unveil to Warren, summoning him to the workshop at the day's end before home time. What a heartfelt way to wrap up the year. All credit to these three students and also to Warren Part in fostering such a strong and connected mentoring relationship with these boys as to motivate them to dedicate time, effort and care to such a cause. The journey did not come without its hiccups and trials as many new techniques needed to be mastered and there was certainly bickering between the lads. The biggest challenge was completing the task, hidden in plain sight, under Warren’s nose, as he was regularly in and out of the workshop to attend classes. The boy’s cover story was that the bench was a commission project for Mackenzie’s mum. At one stage Warren in jest commented to Angus while he was working on the piece, How’s me seat going?. I saw Angus shudder a little but hold it together, recognising Warren was only speaking in jest and keeping a straight face to give nothing away. The pictures tell the rest of the story. A great way to conclude what has definitely been a trying year and a fitting triumph to end on. Cameron Szery - Industrial Technology teacher See more

11.01.2022 THROWBACK THURSDAY | Processions are an important feature of Catholic culture. They are a world-wide custom going back to our Jewish roots. Catholic processions are a form of pilgrimage first undertaken by the Jews to represent important historical events. Catholics have developed many processions for special occasions to remind us that the Christian life is a constant movement toward God and our eternal home. (Catholicculture.org) The Feast of Christ the King was established by Pope Pius XI in 1925 during a time of secularism when God was forgotten in the lives of many. The feast is intended to proclaim Christ’s royalty over the human race. Here is a photo of one such procession taking place at MSB in the 1940's.

03.01.2022 MSB VISIT FOR NAIDOC AT ST TERESA'S RAVENSHOE | Last Wednesday 18th November, students from MSB spent the day sharing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture with the students of St. Teresa's Primary School, Ravenshoe, as part of their NAIDOC celebrations. MSB students shared didgeridoo playing, spear and boomerang throwing, Island dancing, Island weaving (with coconut leaves), language and song. Ravenshoe is also on Jirrbal Country and so we were particularly blessed to have Year 11 student, Zemekis Hunter (a Jirrbal young man), lead our MSB group in Ravenshoe.
