24.01.2022 Mount Victoria Railway Refreshment Room staff on a group outing in 1925. Stopping for the traditional photograph outside Hartley Courthouse. There's great stories of the comradery of RRR staff and New South Wales Government Railways. With 45 staff working on catering and 125 railway workers, Mt Vic railway station was a hive of activity. 23.01.2022 It's fascinating to find these little remnants of our home decor heritage. From our great friends at BMHS' refurbishing work of Tarella cottage, Wentworth Falls. So many historical societies across the mountains doing works behind the scenes as we prepare for re-opening to visitors.

23.01.2022 Theres some spectacular views around Mt Victoria. The weather is amazing at the moment, sunny and not a breath of wind. A tad chilly at night.

23.01.2022 A detail from "Violets Torment" digital drawing by Nancy Sarno on the front page of the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre website. A superb piece inspired by the story of Miss Violet Gibbins, founder and principal of the Osborne Ladies College, Blackheath 1923 - 1958. The portrait tells of Violets brother, killed in France during WW1, her tragic loss and attempts to contact him on the other side. An imaginative work which is displayed with a beautiful poem on the subject, "Ce...notaph" by Vanessa Kirkpatrick The museum holds an extensive collection from the Osborne Ladies College which was used to research these creative works. On show until 27th September, check the cultural centre website for details. http://bluemountainsculturalcentre.com.au/ex/black-blue-ii/

22.01.2022 At the museum's recent Annual General Meeting Jean Winston was awarded a Life Membership to the Society for her huge efforts as former President and Publicity Officer. Jean did some amazing work as President, initiating our popular volunteer members' Thursday busy bees. Thanks Jean for all your work helping preserve our district's heritage.

21.01.2022 A recording of yesterday's City of Sydney online event for NAIDOC week. For technical reasons, the video doesn't start until about 7 minutes and 35 seconds in. 3 hours of dance, discussion and performance in high definition.

13.01.2022 2020-08 Sydney Trains New Intercity Fleet simulator training staff next door to the museum. Incredible details of the Blue Mountains line with underpass murals and graffiti from the district. Another historic day for the museum.

13.01.2022 Blackheath History Forum won't be beaten by a pesky pandemic. They're online via youtube today with what looks to be an intriguing story of a political life in Australia.

13.01.2022 A wonderful opportunity for an artist in residence to come to our region. Very local to the museum, just across the Darling Causeway, go along the Bells Line of Road and take the Mount Wilson turnoff.

13.01.2022 Talk to the artists and writers about their Black & Blue 2 work on Saturdays for the next three weeks. Exhibition includes an eclectic array of objects on loan from the Mount Victoria Museum collection

12.01.2022 The driver testing it out took to it like a duck to water. Driver Robert Cameron is a proud Wiradjuri man

12.01.2022 Late news on the museum Presidents talk about the museum and Black & Blue 2 exhibition. Faye will be doing Q&A talks during the day in a roped off section of the gallery, guests limited to 20 per session. Tim will be in discussion with Faye at 1pm Saturday 29th August. You need to book for the event with the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre - phone 47805410 - the first session has been booked out.

10.01.2022 An imaginative work by Faye Wilson for Black & Blue 2 exhibition at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre. Its a video animation projected onto christening gowns from the museum collection.

09.01.2022 On this day in 1616 Dirk Hartog and crew of the "Eendracht" land at Cape Inscription, Western Australia. He left a pewter plate inscribed in Dutch, translated below :- 1616, on the 25th October, arrived here the ship Eendracht of Amsterdam; the upper merchant, Gilles Mibais of Luyck; Captain Dirk Hartog of Amsterdam; the 27th ditto set sail for Bantam; undermerchant Jan Stein, upper steersman, Pieter Doekes from Bil, A[nn]o 1616. 81 years later in 1697 the plate was collected by Willem de Vlamingh and returned to the Netherlands where it is still kept in the Rijksmuseum.

09.01.2022 The Birdland contemporary art exhibition at the museum has been nominated for the M&GNSW 2020 Innovation & Resilience Museums award. Theres stiff competition in our category and it is a showcase of the excellent work done by small museums across the state. https://mgnsw.org.au/sector/support/imagine/nominees-2020/

08.01.2022 Next level awesome. All collected by a school teacher. Palma, Italy

08.01.2022 Some history on iron and steel production in the district. I think the sentence "Coke was required to generate the required heat levels to smelt steel" is right and wrong. Yes they use it for heat but is also used for the carbon in steel.

07.01.2022 Sneak peak at the rear of the "Black & Blue 2" exhibition catalogue. Starts today at the BM Cultural Centre, Katoomba until 27th September 2020 - Special thanks to museum Vice-President Barbara Palmer for her expert contributions to this project. http://bluemountainsculturalcentre.com.au/ex/black-blue-ii/

07.01.2022 Some of a group of Girl Guides Australia leaders who were willing to get their photo on Facebook after a visit to Mount Victoria Museum. Social media badges for the brave.

07.01.2022 The museum President isnt one for bushfire tours. Its too sad. First drive through to Lithgow today was a shock. A devastating loss to our human and natural history. Newnes Junction signal box is no more.

06.01.2022 An historic day for the museum. Our first EFTPOS machine being installed. First customer copy to the President for annual membership fees.

06.01.2022 We had another group through the museum today. Pretty sure visitors gave us a rating. Speaking of ratings, the museum didnt get a chance to do much of a song & dance about our latest exhibition. The Medical Room. Another experience made possible by generous donors and the amazing effort of our volunteers. I go through the full gamut of emotion when viewing the display, theres great respect for science, the fear of large bore hypodermic needles and the humour of the laughing gas anaesthetic machine.

02.01.2022 "The story ends with the pea being placed in a museum, where according to the story it can still be seen today unless someone has removed it." Is there another fairy tale that mentions a museum?

02.01.2022 One of the earliest known* photographs of Blackheath railway - circa 1880s - image courtesy of Blue Mountains City Council Library. * There's also the photo of the railway being built. Can you find earlier image?
