06.01.2022 THE REBIRTH OF THE CO-OP A group of about 60 locals in Tambellup have come together to bring the co-op back to the town of friendship. This comes after news ye...sterday that the Katanning co-op has been saved by a group of 20 local business people. Michael White from Tambellup says the recent revival was sparked by the prospect of Tambellup losing its corner store and deli. The current owners are looking to retirethey haven’t been able to find a buyer in the current market, so with the fear of it closing the shire was approached, he said. Along with the rest of the community, we’ve agreed to form a co-operative. Mr White says the rebirth is a nod to the deli’s legacy, as it was previously a Wesfarmers co-op. The ramifications of losing the deli were pretty largeYou’re looking at 40 kilometers to Katanning and that would be the nearest place where you could buy milk or bread, and for the locals in town particularly that would be fairly inconvenient.
