24.01.2022 We nipped into the beautiful Sandstone Wonders, Queensland, Australia once again, following the advice of numerous fellow travellers who've tut-tutted when they...'ve learnt that we'd never stayed at their favourite spot - Neville Hewitt Weir on the edge of the welcoming little town of Baralaba Qld. Shortfalling remedied! We scored a top spot right beside the park, which is next to the Dawson River. Yep, we now get why this is much loved by so many seasoned travellers. It's quiet, spacious and flat, with flushing toilets, a $1 shower, big grassy area, BBQs, picnic shelters and boat ramp. There's a big blue shelter under which campers and their dogs gather for (socially distanced) happy hour. Your choice - sunny spots or shady. There's birdlife and the cutest little juvenile echidna even wandered through our campsite to say 'Welcome!'. Well worth a decent donation at this well maintained 'Council Free-stay' with the site managed by the Baralaba Progress Association and funds going towards town improvements. The Grey Nomad Awards recognise private and permit campsites, Councils, tourism and attraction operators and caravan parks that provide exemplary experiences for mature-age travellers. 2020 Awards are open. 16.01.2022 THREE-CHAIN ROAD CLOSURE PUBLIC ACCESS The Moura Police have recently received an increased number of reports regarding vehicles unlawfully trespassing on Thr...ee Chain Road which is currently still under development. Information received is that vehicles are purposely evading ‘ROAD CLOSED’ signs to access the road and the new look out that is nearing completion. Whilst the convenience of the road and appeal to check out the new look out are enticing to some, a $186 fine and 3 point demerit is a hefty price to pay for disobeying a No entry sign. See more

01.01.2022 If you are passing through Moura and want to see the sights, then this stop is a must. A blasting mishap closed the viewing platform a few years ago but lots of... hard work has finally paid off and the platform has a new home. The platform allows you to have a birdseye view of the busy pit. You can even catch a view of a dragline as it moves tonnes of dirt.
