24.01.2022 The tannery did a really nice job on this mirror patent. We added some trees to keep this pair of dressage boots looking good for many years.

22.01.2022 You only saw the soles of these boots so have taken a picture of the finished pair. They're a 'packer' with a bit of a different closing .The laces stop half way and a velcro flap closes the upper part . A horseman named Graham Ward came up with the idea when he saw the velcro on his horse's shin protectors when travelling in his truck. He found it worked on the boots we made him . 20.01.2022 There are still some horse events that require a strict dress code from the riders. Shows such as the Brisbane ekka ( certain classes)Sydney royal Easter and ofcourse the classic Garyowen all expect competitors to wear their finest turnout gear . This means pull on style long boots, shiny and with a leather sole. The boots require pullstraps on the inside cuffs where boot hooks can be inserted for pulling the boot on. Often the pullstraps leave a bulge on the outside of the b...oot . To avoid this happening we use small " plugs" next to the nylon strap on the lining leather. This , as so many jobs you don't see , takes time, but to the wearer it's time well spent. Regards Jack See more

20.01.2022 The last pair we made for 2019 is a tall elegant boot made from box calf leather with a narrow, punched patent collar on a high bow. This young rider also asked for a ' rough out ' inside leg. This feature can be added on any boot with a front inside zipper. We enjoy discussing and bringing to reality a pair of personal dressage boots and if you decide 2020 is the year for a new pair don't hesitate to give Deb a ring or send her a text or email. Regards Jack and Deb

19.01.2022 Good morning friends, Some years ago the horse flu prevented us from traveling and from gathering at shows. It was our four legged equine mates that were not well. Now their human companions are likely to pick up a virus that could make us seriously ill or for some of us or family members and friends who are not well for a start ,could actually mean we could lose 'em. So let's just do what we can to overcome this crisis in the knowledge that things will get better. We mis...sed seeing many of you at Werribee including some of you who wanted to get measured for boots. If you have boots on order with us and have paid a deposit or paid in full please be assured we will honor your order . Mous boots are made in Southeast Queensland and we try to source our materials in Australia ,so even if we cannot get to our suppliers in person we'll get them to send us needed supplies. Meantime , if you have some boots that can do with a new zipper or a collar to add some height, this might be a good time to have it done ,you'll be ready for when things start up again! Best wishes and keep your self and loved ones well, kind regards, Jack and Deb. See more

12.01.2022 Hi friends, When a boot is said to have a 3/4 welt, a rolled shank with a pegged arch what does that mean? Well, it almost certainly talks about a hand made western style boot with a solid leather sole , usually so called ' rock oak ' bark tan sole leather. The welt is stitched around the for part of the foot and the 'shank' just in front of the heel is ' rolled' over the steel shank , usually a heavy 4 inch nail with both ends flattened . The inner sole is made of qual...ity leather, 4 or 5 mm thick which acts like a spine in your boot. The boot maker hammers hardwood pegs in small holes made by a pegging awl through the layers of leather usually in neat double rows that when sanded down look like small squares, hence ' square peg in a round hole' ! The pegs when they get wet expand and form a very tough bond with the sole , whereas a nail will loosen over time. This way of doing the sole makes a very rigid arch ,supporting your foot when on a long ride. It takes time , but the result is worth it ! Regards from Jack

12.01.2022 This pair is coming along really well so I will show it to you even before we put soles and heels on.The boots are made of a very fine grain calf skin that can be polished to a nice sheen. The customer has added a 'croco' collar with a narrow band of patent on the 8 cm bow . Mous boots will be going to Dressage and Jumping with the Stars which is on in Werribee March 19 _ 21. We hope to see you there! Regards Jack and Deb

11.01.2022 Hi friends, Late last year we had a request for a pair of riding boots without zipper. The challenge was in that the customer had a very high instep thus finding it difficult to get a boot off the shelf to fit as well as being suitable for his needs. We thought we would show you the result; This pair is made on the toledo last with a medium round toe( we built the last up to take care of the high instep). The kind of leather used in the foot and 18 inch leg is known as Cho...pper, purchased from East coast leather, lightly oiled in the tannery which gives it a real nice look and feel. The welts , or inseam, are hand sewn with waxed nylon flat lace , then twisted, to form a strong construction. A spur ledge was also put on by request of the customer. Regards Jack and Deb See more

10.01.2022 These photos show how the blocker works to fit the upper to the tops. The quality of the leather is really important for a good result...

08.01.2022 Here we are in a new decade. Our thoughts are with you if you're effected by drought and fires.(Which is most of us!)Let's hope we get rain soon. All boot wearers look for ways to squeeze some more wear from their trusty boots. If they're elastic side boots the elastic panels lose their elasticity over time making them feel floppy to wear. Replacing the elastic can be easily done for a reasonable amount. Have enclosed a before and after picture. Regards Jack and Deb

08.01.2022 This pair is made from " midnight blue" veal .It has a medium bow and an inside zipper. The black patent trim is a nice color contrast with the dark blue boot leather.

04.01.2022 "Horse and Home" at qsec went well. A good number of people from not only South east Qld but also from further North as well as Nsw had a great time exchanging ideas and knowledge in their respective equine areas. Just goes to prove once again we can learn from each other regardless of what discipline it is we are interested in. Just showing a snapshot inside the trade area also some dark blue custom boots with a bow tooled by Deb. Regards Jack and Deb

04.01.2022 A good insole is a very important part of your dressage boots. Acting like a spine it gives the vamp and sole strength and durability. We cut ours from 5 mm treated skirting leather , thick enough to hand sew a durable welt to it.No bits of tape , glue or nails ! Picture shows a heap of insoles ready for boot uppers in the new year, also hand stitched welt. Regards Jack and Deb
