11.01.2022 Mumma’s Here are some things to think about when you’re getting back into exercise postnatally. Diaphragm breathing - 10 deep breaths into your tummy morning and night. This is the first step in restoring core function, healing, and strength and is amazing at reducing stress.... Isolated Pelvic Floor Contractions Find a quiet place and a relaxed position and begin gentle PF lifts holding for 5 seconds. Make sure you fully relax between each contraction with a couple of those magic diaphragm breaths. Get your pelvic floor checked Often women experience issues with their pelvic floor postnatally e.g. leaking with coughing/sneezing, pelvic pain, rushing to the toilet, or a feeling of heaviness in their pelvis. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, or have just recently had a baby Do yourself a favour and get your PF checked. You will leave with a greater understanding of your body, and a plan on how to return to what you love. Andrina Mitcham is amazing, and you can book in with her by calling Mildura O&G on 50214044 Take it easy in the beginning Be kind and respect that your body might need a bit of time to adjust to a new movement routine. Start gentle with walking and stretches and work your way up from there. At @movewellmildura we love educating and supporting women through this, using Pilates to lay down the strong foundations for a strong postnatal mumma. . . . #postnatal #pilates #movewell #physiopilates #mildura #matpilates #mumsandbubs #postnatalexercise #movewellmildura #pelvicfloor #postnatalpilates #movewell #milduraliving

09.01.2022 Did you know that a mum lifts her baby over 60 times a day! And that’s just if she has one... How insane is that! Mums are often told to limit lifting after birth but the reality is, that lifting is very much a part of mum life. Teaching new mums how to lift their little gremlins in a way that limits the pressure on their healing pelvic floor early postnatally is key. Breathing, and the relationship between the diaphragm and the pelvic floor is the big player here, an...d it’s something we really focus on during 1 on 1 and group sessions. From there, guiding women on how to increase their load as their strength improves is just as important.... because let’s get real, your baby (home gym weights) gets heavier every week! Obviously every birth and body is different so it’s always best to get professional advice about strength training post birth with info and guidance specific to you (vaginal or cesarean). If you're unsure how your pelvic floor is going, get yourself checked by pelvic physio, Andrina Mitcham . . .
