25.01.2022 Someone gets a bike for Christmas! So glad this packaged arrived! Now to build it and deliver

24.01.2022 It has been a crazy week filling in for Lukas, extra cleaning of door knobs and walls and researching how to best serve and protect our clients. So the storage area got a bit out of control! But Lucy has got on-top of it and even found some time this afternoon to do training packages presented by the Australian Health Department. Looking forward to a quiet weekend! See you all next week and remember to get in touch of you or your kids are unwell so we can make a voice or video call plan instead

24.01.2022 I hear it is hard to find a gym balls or exercise bands at the moment. I have recently received a new order and can arrange contact free pick up or delivery if you want a ball to help get those physio exercises done! I have a variety of sized from my little mini yellow 45cm balls up to 65 and can get other larger sizes on request. Get in touch!

23.01.2022 One of my favourite things to do is recycle equipment! Today I got an amazing double dose. What do I mean recycle???? I see lots of kids. This means lots of equipment that is in great condition, or sometimes very well loved and used but still with life left in it, just kids just grow out of. ... I try to always order equipment with plenty of growth space, but there is only so much room to grow I can work into a wheelchair, or standing frame and still have it fit now! So once kids grow out I like to collect, refresh and reuse massive thanks to Complete Mobility & Rehab Townsville who help out with storing, cleaning and fixing second hand equipment as well as delivering a bunch to a today! This meant today I was able to deliver some desperately needed equipment to a little person who otherwise would have been waiting months for NDIS approval and then manufacture and delivery of his own equipment. It isnt perfect, but its a whole lot better than nothing while we work out what will be the best possible piece of equipment for him and his family, apply for funding, wait for delivery and get him into something even better. Plus a lucky conversation led to being able to supply a bigger temporary option for someone else who needs to sit in a very particular position after some upcoming surgery. :) If you have old walking frames, wheelchairs, standers or rehabilitation strollers that are not longer able to be used and are cluttering up your house have a chat. We can take a look and work out the best way to reuse your equipment to help more people as quickly as possible

22.01.2022 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3KI3Ae1E8E Today Chilli helped me out with a little video about making obstacle courses at home out of everyday items around the house! So check it out and let me know what you use to make your obstacle course!

22.01.2022 Group activities starting next week Possums: Developmentally, children around preschool age. Predominantly movement based activities with parental assistance for obstacle courses or to join in activities. Some of our older clients who engage best with these sorts of activities may attend, we will ensure that all children are safe, and the older or larger children will be assisted closely to ensure they do not run into or injure any smaller children when playing. Quokkas:... Developmentally, children around primary school age, able to follow directions semi-independently or play games with simple rules. e.g. passing ball to each other or waiting their turn. Completing obstacles courses independently or with assistance for difficult obstacles. Kangaroos: Developmentally, children around late primary or early teens age. Expectation that kids can follow instructions and games with simple rules without our assistance. Simplified sporting activities, higher level obstacle courses or ball games. For children who need more physical facilitation or prompting to follow the group we ask that a support worker or carer attend to provide the one on one assistance while our therapists direct the group as a whole. Babies - Sugar Gliders: We have potential to run a babies group also, but at this stage we haven't got enough interest to lock it in, so if you have kids who aren't moving around independently yet send me an email and I'll work out a babies groups

22.01.2022 This week we are also celebrating being in the brand new clinic! Swipe through for more photos of my new space... Lots more room, more variety and more toys! Big things coming in 2020. Its going to be a great year!

20.01.2022 Home dance party! Check out justdancenow it is a version of Just Dance that you can play without a playstation. You connect through a phone app and use your phone instead the controller. At the moment, it looks like you have to be in the same room to really make it work. So a good option for family games night! ... There are a number of free songs, or its $10 for a months access. I am currently working on a way to be able to share my screen so I can do a dance party with you all! but I wanted to share the option anyway so you can give it a go at home

17.01.2022 Check out my new toys..... They are called @blazepod and will be used for lots of different reaching, jumping, balance, reaction speed, planning, coordination, fitness and core strength challenges and games! I took a quick break from packing and appointments to have a little play today. 14.01.2022 Hi followers, please find below an email sent to all active clients today This post is a big one, and it has a lot of information about changes. Please give it a read and feel free to reply with any questions or give me a call. Like many of you I have been watching the news and progression of Covid19 and the Government response closely. As per the announcements last night physiotherapy is an essential service and is allowed to continue to operate. Though this may be subject ...Continue reading

14.01.2022 Group active play sessions! I have been wanting to set up inclusive group exercise, active play and sporting sessions since forever. And I finally have the space to do it! I would love to have children of all ability levels who maybe just don't really like team sports or the usual exercise options and want to get their movement in a fun and pressure free (air-conditioned) environment. I am aiming to keep these sessions low cost and super fun!... So please if you are interested fill in our survey so we can see how many people are interested and at what times. And pop your email address in so I can get in touch once I have details and dates locked in! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2SP6C35

13.01.2022 So, it has taken a little longer than I planned .... But here is a video I have made showing some of the gym ball activities that we do with kids! These ones are designed for any kids (even ones a bit bigger than my dolly) who have weak core muscles, difficulty twisting or rotating their trunk or lack the postural / protective reactions to stop themselves fall over! ... Any sitting on the gym ball to watch tv, do activities or play games will help strength core muscles and improve balance, especially if kids can touch the ground and balance themselves without needing to be held up (my dolly here has terribly short legs and just no hip stability at all :P ). https://youtu.be/WN-QkIJ3Fqs

13.01.2022 Telehealth We have started telehealth appointments for a lovely client of ours whos mum has the flu (just the normal flu) to limit chanced of ANY bugs spreading. If you would prefer to stay home to keep your bugs at home, or to avoid picking anything up that might be spread to vulnerable family members please get in touch and we can do that.... There are a few options - we can talk on the phone about what you have been working on at home and what we can progress to next, our therapists will give you lots of activity ideas and discuss the equipment you have at home to use and then we will email detailed instructions and pictures We can set up a video link if you would like to show us what you have been working on We can email home programs with progressions and lots of different ideas for activities. At the moment we are still here (well, Lucy is) and are taking as many precautions as possible but we are aware that could change as we all work together to #flattenthecurve #telehealth #selfisolation #physiotherapy #physiocanbefun #paediatricphysiotherapy #towns#townsvillekids #townsvillebusiness #townsvilleshines

13.01.2022 Please join me in welcoming Lukas to the Move and Grow family. Lukas is a very passionate physiotherapist with a particular interest in working with children and play based therapy. Chilli and Lucy are very excited to have some extra help around the office!... Those of you with appointments over the next few weeks will likely meet Lukas as we are doing lots of joint visits and work shadowing to get him properly inducted into the Move and Grow way of doing things.

13.01.2022 Group sessions! - Possums Small group today, but lots of fun doing obstacle, dancing, giant bowling and being animals. Great to see some of our kids trying new things while watching the other kids doing them, and branching out of their comfort zone to join in with new kids Hope to see some more faces next week in our Possums group - Tuesday at 10am. Email [email protected] to book on, or just turn up

We have a range of colours and sizes to try only $35 for great comfort, support and quality thongs... #physiotherapy #townsvillelocalbusiness #townsvillephysio #smallbusinestownsville #supportsmallbusiness #archiesfootwear #casualcomfort

13.01.2022 Check out these great ideas for practicing ball skills from www.kidsmasterskills.com I really like wall ball and have been using that activity with a few kids over the last couple of months - throwing the ball against the wall means it rebounds back much faster than when throwing with a partner. This means kids need to swap from throw to catch quickly and they get to practice reflexes and timing a lot more than ball with a partner. ... If you want to try to bowling grab some recycling... old soft drink, milk or juice bottles make great bowling pins!

12.01.2022 Introducing Danny. He is here to help out with demos when teaching parents how to do an activity at home, or working with very little people who dont like to be handled by strangers! This week he has stepped up into the world of telehealth! Demonstrating during a phone call today so that photos and a video could be sent for practice after the session.... The little person who this session was for has had a flu and fever for a week or so, he is on the mend, but to keep the sickness out of our rooms we did a phone link up instead of an in person session. We had a chance to talk through what we worked on last session, what new skills he has, what his parents are struggling with or finding isnt changing and mum is going to send a video of one of the hardest activities. Then we discussed the next steps, how to extend those skills further and make the program challenging again for all the activities he has aced! Plus different ways to work on the hard stuff. A whole lot of toy ideas, discussions about what items around the house will work for therapy and how make it easier or harder by just tweaking a little. (Plus how to make the Velcro blocks in the photo) And a quick photo shoot with Danny to give a visual to the description! We probably got to talk through a lot more ideas and options than in a face to face session and are given more time to give ideas and allow parents to get the skills instead of our therapists doing all the work! Finding the positives to some distance and finding ways to make sure that kids can get the best help even if they are keeping their germs at home, or keeping themselves safe. #telehealth #socialdistancing #physiotherapy #physiocanbefun #townsvillelocal #townsvillekids #townsvillebusiness #covid_19

10.01.2022 Here at Move and Grow we are feeling for our Australian brothers and sisters and animals down south. We have sent funds off to Foodbank to help feed the humans, but also Lucy rallied the troops today to work on a production line of animal rescue bags. Thanks to those who came and made it a fun easy day, we made 15 day hanging Joey bags, 2 3D pouches for wallabies to get in and out of, plus cut a whole lot more ready to make this week. ... All made from recycled sheets! This bunch is headed to Brisbane as part of someones luggage, but next week Ill be making more to pass onto our local carers who also need more supplies. Move and Grow Physio is also sponsoring postage to send as many as we can get to wherever they are needed most right now! If you want to help out you can either drop off cotton sheets to the office to turn into bags, or check out the Animal Rescue Collective Craft Guild on Facebook or Google it for patterns to sew. We are happy to recycle any sheets into useful bags, as long as they are cotton / flannelette we can use them

08.01.2022 Hi all. I have been following the guidelines set out the the Australian Government and tonights announcements as well as the much more stringent recommendations of many health professionals and doctors and taking into account our local situation. At this stage appointments will be continuing for healthy clients who have no fever or respiratory symptoms in the clinic. We will continue to take every precaution to keep our clients and staff safe and prevent further community t...ransmission of this virus. We will also be offering video sessions for anyone who has any cold or flu symptoms or wishes to stay home and self isolate for any reason. At present I believe that Move and Grow Physiotherapy offers an important service to our community and I want to preserve this normality for our clients as long as is safe and sensible. Please understand that this situation may change at any time as further information, cases of the virus or government directives change and we may choose to close our doors for in person appointments prior to official advise if we feel that the risk to staff and clients becomes too great. If you would like to change or cancel your appointments please phone us as early as possible to discuss so that we can plan our time. If you would like to try to have more appointments in the next week or two, or bring your appointments over the next few weeks forwards please get in touch and we will make every attempt to adjust appointments or place you on our short notice appointment list in case of cancellations.

05.01.2022 Hello all Sorry I haven't been very active here lately. Sometimes we all need to focus on the immediate and just do what we can Lucy and Lukas have been very busy working from home and back in the office. Trying to balance giving the best services we can to all of our clients with the need to isolate at times and ensure no sicknesses can be passed onto anyone. Plus picking up lots of new clients over the last few weeks and making sure as many little ones as possible can ge...t the physiotherapy they need. We have also expanded our little Move and Grow family by one with the arrival of Totoro here. He is an Australian Cobberdog who will be helping Chilli as a therapy dog. Toro is very calm and sedate (quite different qualities to Chilli!) As well as being hypoallergenic so that more clients can enjoy saying hi to a dog during therapy. Toro comes to visit the office occasionally at the moment as part of his early socialization, but he will not be a certified therapy dog until he is 1 or 2 years old.

04.01.2022 Covid19 is a serious health matter and here at Move and Grow Physiotherapy we are taking this virus very seriously. What we do for this, and all flus * Staff members have annual flu vaccines when available *Hands and toys are washed after use / between sessions... *When staff are sick and may be contagious we will reschedule appointments In addition *Toys are being removed from the reception and we recommend you byo of your child needs to be occupied during short waits or while talking with your therapist at the end of the session *Hand sanitizer is on reception desk for all clients to use *Door handles and surfaces are being cleaned with alcho wipes throughout the day *Therapists are wearing wipable aprons for hands on appointments that can be cleaned /wiped more easily than our uniforms *any staff member with possible flu symptoms will self isolate on sick leave *Staff members have been avoiding contact with family and friends who have traveled overseas and are very aware of avoiding large gatherings We ask that our clients: *Phone is to discuss if you / your kids have any flu symptoms such as a sore throat, fever or congestion. Depending on the child we may be able to continue with the appointment, or will suggest linking via telehealth instead *Use the hand sanitizer or wash hands in the sink upon arrival at the clinic *Be flexible and patient. We may ask to shuffle appointments to allow home visits to particularly vulnerable clients or on the case of therapist isolation We are endeavouring to keep the clinic open and safe for all clients. I know many children have had to pause sports or social groups and we hope to remain a constant and limit therapy gaps. If there is anything more we can do to reassure clients, or help you through this hectic time please dont hesitate to give Lucy a call.

04.01.2022 Have you checked out The Inspired Treehouse yet? Lots of fun activities that can work on OT and PT skills at the same time! Also try these activities to keep kids busy and using their brains (you know using your brain is much tiring than using you body only)... Mystery treasure hunt. Challenge kids to find 5 red things, 10 blue things. Or round things or square things. Build an indoor obstacle course - better yet.... Have the kids build their own obstacles! Get some cardboard boxes. Medium boxes, You can close them up and use to build tall towers (works shoulders, core strength and endurance. Like I do with my colourful foam blocks). Big boxes can become cubbies or castles or tunnels. Make a blanket fort Take a picnic to the backyard Check out YouTube dance tutorials. Challenge the kids to learn a new dance today. Or just to dance along to "just dance" "kids bop" or "kids Zumba" Check out "go noodle". Lots of dances, challenges and exercise videos designed for kids Take a walk along the river. Large gathering are cancelled, but you can get out as a family and enjoy the fresh air #activekids #busybrains #townsvillelocal #townsvillekids #physiocanbefun #quarantineexercise #townsvillebusiness #inthistogether

02.01.2022 Did you see our interview in the paper yesterday? Check it out in the bulletin.online, or we will have some copies to read P on the pin board when you are next in the office. I would love people to share how they feel having Chilli around for therapy sessions too! (If you would rather you can message me and I can post privately).

02.01.2022 Give away hospital bed. We have 4 available. Pick up 10 Keane street currajong. Not to be resold . Please pm me

01.01.2022 Hi Everyone, I spent some time today putting together a do-it-at-home exercise video! So grab your gym balls and see if you can follow along with the exercises. Give me a call if you need a smaller or larger gym ball, I have most sizes in stock (and more tiny gym ball should be arriving next week!). If these activities are too hard on the gym ball you could try a peanut roll. They are much more stable as they only move in one direction instead of any direction. ... If youre having trouble keeping up remember you can always watch the clip with the exercise, then pause the video and help your child to complete the activity before restarting the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zJ4qAoGpyE

01.01.2022 Hi everyone Here at Move and Grow we are preparing lots of options. YouTube, phone link ups, video appointments. Limited in person sessions as deemed safe and necessary. So I wanted to talk about equipment. It would be amazing of those of you who are hoping to link on with us during the break think about some toys or equipment.... On the first picture we have Yoga and exercise dice (from Kmart - high level exercises, can change them to more age appropriate activities. Yoga dice had ones do-able by a range of ages) Soccer skills ball (Kmart) good for balance, coordination, timing Agility ladder (ummmm Kmart). Good for walking, agility, coordination, concentration, multitasking, focus, Wobble board (maybe Kmart. I have a different version available). Balance, postural reflexes, reducing falls, core strength Gym balls. SO MANY THINGS! Sitting balance, core strength, reducing falls, arm and leg strength, endurance, cardiovascular fitness, general exercise - aim for one no shorter than the childs lower legs. For kids under 50cm lower legs I can provide a gym ball. For taller kids I have balls to suit, or Kmart does as well. If its bigger than the lower leg measurement we can add a footrest or have slightly deflated. Plus we have wobble cushions, blow toys and activities, sensory and fidget toys, seating wedges and peanuts. I believe for people with NDIS Plans we can work out finding these items as plans are being made significantly more flexible. Otherwise get in touch if you would like a personalised list of things we think you would be most likely to use. #paediatricphysiotherapy #telehealth #physiocanbefun #physiotherapytownsville #townsvillekids #townsvillelocalbusiness #townsvillebusiness

01.01.2022 Here at Move and Grow you might notice some changes over the next few weeks. We are endeavouring to so everything we can to keep the clinic open and safe for all our clients to limit gaps in therapy. As a paediatric physiotherapist, social distancing just doesnt really work here. So instead we are ensuring frequent hand washing and sanitizing of surfaces and toys. Therapists are now sporting these stylish aprons that are wipable so that our clothes are not able to transmit ...anything between clients. (Lucy gets hot pink leopard.... Lukas gets pinstripes). Chilli is also being wiped with pet wipes, a bit more gentle on his skin than the hospital grade ones though, so if you feel you are especially vulnerable just ask us to keep Chilli away. #covid_19 #physiocanbefun #townsvillelocal #townsvillekids #townsvillebusiness

01.01.2022 Its a hard life when you spend a Friday afternoon at the pool Helping some kiddos make sure they are able to show off all their skills and get into the best / most appropriate group for school swimming and showing families some extremely fun and also hard core, balance and strength workouts.... That look like fun pool games but are sneaky exercises! #physiotherapy #physiocanbefun #paediatricphysiotherapy #physiotherapytownsville #playbasedtherapy #swim #inclusion #participationmatters
