18.01.2022 For Millenia we as humans have understood the connection between mind and body. In recent times the scientific community has begun to establish credible links between how a person feels and how they move or experience pain. This relationship forms the basis of what we call the biopsychosocial model in health care. One way that we can address multiple factors that impact a person is through the practice of yoga. This allows a person to work on mindfulness, meditation and movem...ent at the same time to form a greater connection to ones emotions and their body. At 4pm on Monday and Wednesday we offer yoga classes for all levels of experience, fitness and backgrounds as part of the @veterangrappling program. If you know any veterans that you think may benefit from participating in our yoga practice please have them contact Veteran Grappling or Movement As Medicine for details. See more

17.01.2022 Sore neck or back from sitting around during self isolation? Tip of the day below. My neck has been sore with the increased screen time during self isolating so I grabbed one of these and it has been amazing. Looks funny but it is a trigger point release Theracane. For half the price of a massage you can get pain relief whenever you need while at home. But don't forget, your exercise plan will be the most effective way to help with long term pain so keep an eye out for our upcoming YouTube videos on therapeutic exercise. https://amzn.to/34YZWb5

16.01.2022 The number 1 secret for veterans and first responders impacted by PTSD.

13.01.2022 Neck injuries. Martial artists, or contact sportspeople of all types are often told about the benefits of a strong neck in helping to reduce the risk of injuries. The sorts of thing you may see with insufficient neck strength for your sport include; Head trauma resulting in loss of consciousness or concussions (think knock outs in fighting, big tackles in football codes etc) ... Neck damage resulting in pain, weakness, sensory loss or loss of strength due to nerve damage (think wrestling type situations where you are thrown and land in a compromised position, submission attempts that place the neck in positions of danger like extreme flexion etc) Whiplash which can be symptomatic for extended periods of time cycling through flare ups and remission resulting in the above-mentioned issues (think motor vehicle sports accidents where the head is moved violently from one direction to another etc) In all these instances being able to identify early on what the presentation is and how best to assess and treat the problem will have a large impact on the success or failure of an intervention. Here we see resident physiotherapist @combatsport_physio working with mixed martial artist @garretgrossfw to assess neck strength using dynamometry in order to establish base line measures. This allows us to compare pre and post intervention strength in the muscles of the neck so that we can ensure the training intervention applied to help reduce injury risk is doing its job. 10.01.2022 Military, police, ambulance, fire fighters and first responders in general put both their lives and their bodies on the line while helping to keep us safe. Some of the more common ailments you may see with this group of people are; Knee injuries Low back pain ... Traumatic stress disorders Respiratory diseases Thermal stress Sprains and strains Burns and exposure to chemicals 3 tips to improve military and first responders health 1) Move - find activities that you enjoy and are able to do for short periods of time pain free. 2) Meditate - addressing mental health is a key component to improving not only your psychological health but also other areas of your life such as your physical pain as well. 3) Mates - having a network of mates that you can talk to, motivate to be healthy, share experiences with and keep on track when things get tough can make a huge difference. Organisations such as @yvss_currumbin @avs.australia @veterangrappling @redsix_app @bluehopesupport and @mates4mates a great place to find help and get on the right track to a brighter future.
