25.01.2022 Hi I’m Coach Des I teach the swim squads and triathletes here at Movement Casuarina. I was born and raised in country NSW growing up in a town of 350 people. I grew up racing motorcycles from an age of 5 until 30 before switching to triathlons, the rest as they say...is history!... I moved to Cabarita 25 years ago and have been looking after the Movement swim squads for the last 11 years. My love for coaching has taken me all around Australia and around the world, with Fiji and Tasmania being at the top of my list of favourite places. I’m never far away from my beautiful partner Ruth and our Springer Spaniel ‘Jasper’. I love a simple dinner of lamb roast, and living a quiet life outside of the competitiveness of full time triathlon coaching. A fun fact about me is that every male member of my family dating back to the early 1900s played a musical instrument and or sang. I love this life on the Far North Coast and the people so please come up and say hello if you see me round

25.01.2022 The Power of a Positive Morning Routine What is it that you do first thing in the morning? Whatever you do, whether you’re a morning person or not, work shift work, or are running around after kids, the decisions and actions upon waking matter. Why?... The power lays in the foundations of habits which set you up positively for the rest of your day by reducing decision fatigue and stress. Therefore, positively effecting the rest of your life. You have probably heard Steve Jobs, Barack Obama or Mark Zuckerberg wear the same shirt or suit everyday to reduce decisions in the morning, in order to make space and time for more important decisions of the day. Most people are either in a rush to get to work, pack lunches, get the kids to school or alternatively like the snooze button too many times. Are you a person who tries to relax in the morning or starts the day frantically or are you productive? Statistics suggest that yes going to bed early and waking up early help, but one of the stand out facts suggest no technology 30-60 minutes around sleep times. One of the main tips is to put your phone in another room and resort back to analogue alarm (((((scared face)))). Second is to meditate or use breathing techniques, and the third is to move. What does your morning ritual look like? Ours looks a little like this: Smiling members, tea and coffee, movement, healthy breakfast, then work. 24.01.2022 REMINDER: the gym is open for use this long weekend! Why not come in and set up a circuit like the girls did this morning in the studio room Mel and Jess will be in tomorrow at 9am if you would like to join us?! Entrance to the GYM ONLY is via the back side door, walk past the Boxing Stables. You will need your access tag. Please do not exit the gym to the outside area, this is for emergency exit only. All the equipment is inside for you to use and there is a change room and toilet inside the gym near the TVs. Have fun, join us tomorrow for a 9am HIIT session or we will see you Tuesday when we reopen for reception and pool access at 7am

24.01.2022 Help bring joy to family’s in need this Christmas Donate gifts, such as non perishable food, toys, personal hygiene items, baby gifts, or gift vouchers in the club by the 10th of December. Drop off is at Movement Casuarina reception under the Chrissie tree ... Donations are going to Agape Outreach in Tweed and to Tweed Coast Church, who support some local charities. We are also helping the church pack gift hampers on the 26th Nov between 3-9pm if you would like to join us.

20.01.2022 GIVE BACK THIS CHRISTMAS 2020 has been a difficult year for communities across Australia. And as Christmas approaches it is becoming increasingly clear that many Australians are going to struggle to have even a modest celebration. We have decided to help some local charities and organisations prepare Christmas hampers, including Agape, Baby Give Back, and You Have A Friend in Pottsville. Join us in providing gifts, there is a donation box in the club and we are wrapping pr...esents with Tweed Coast Church on the 26th November 3-9pm. Please consider giving gifts for a range of age groups, including babies, teenagers, parents, elderly and even pets! Gifts can range from non-perishable food, personal hygiene items, baby items, toys, gift vouchers, etc. Consider donating gift vouchers A gift voucher means a parent or guardian can still share in the unique joy of buying a gift for their child or family member (vouchers are also ideal for teenagers). Please leave gifts unwrapped so parents or guardians can choose which gifts suit their child’s interest and personality (feel free to include wrapping paper or gift bags). Your donated gift may be the only present someone receives this Christmas, so please donate new items only. Donations need to be to us by 5th December! 20.01.2022 Coffee after class with the wonderful Pam You will often find Pam here at Osteria Cafe after one of our Pilates or aqua classes. Pam has some amazing stories, she has accomplished a lot in her life from being an air hostess to a ski instructor in Canada. She loves the snow but also loves the beach.... A fun fact about Pam is that she loves languages, speaks a couple but her favourite is Latin. She’s a very friendly, positive, talkative person so don’t be afraid to approach her to say hi and hear one of her legendary life stories! Thank you Pam, it was lovely to find out more about you beyond the gym

What’s the first thing you do in the morning? Drink a glass of water 5. Favourite holiday destination? Fiji! 16.01.2022 We now have after hours access back for the gym!!! Access is for members only with an access tag and is through the back door of the free weights area. Walk past boxing stables and disabled car parks out the front and turn left to access the door. You can now train from 5am in the morning till 10pm at night. Access through this door is only available outside our regular staffed hours. There is no access to outside or the pools. Access to a toilet is through the door in front of cardio. Now there is no excuse :)

Today, our Member Experience Managers, Jess and Charmaine caught up @osteriacasuarina for their weekly meeting and usual Chai Tea to discuss the little victories of September happening across both Tweed and Casuarina Movement Health Clubs and future plans for October. We want to thank all of our members for their donations on Jers...ey Day, we sent off a $120 cheque to The Nathan Gremmo Foundation today, which made us so happy to be able to contribute to such a beautiful cause. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your generosity and participation. It’s the little wins like this that lead to big wins! Stay tuned over the coming weeks to find out what’s happening in our Movement Community for the month of October!

15.01.2022 CLASS BOOKINGS: 1. Classes are available to book 7 days in advance. 2. 20 spaces are available, with 5 spaces available on the wait list. You will be emailed if you are bumped into the class from the wait list. 3. You MUST book all classes on the Movement Health Club App. If the class is not available on the app it is either not available to book yet or unfortunately the class is completely full with a full wait list. ... 4. CANCELATIONS: if you are unable to attend you MUST CANCEL on the app!! This is important because people are on the wait list and want to attend. Instructors are now ticking names off lists to monitor this. If we notice reoccurring non attendance we will be notifying members and enforcing a cancellation policy. Unfortunately because of COVID we are still limited to class numbers. We hope this won’t be an issue for much longer because we love seeing all your faces and want you be able to enjoy our classes. 07.01.2022 Meet Jennifer One of our fabulous members! We asked Jen a quick five fun facts you might not know about her! 1. Jen tries to attend the gym 6 days a week. To get herself ready and motivated she packs two bags every morning, one ready for the gym and one for the pool.... 2. Her favourite class is Deepwater Running on a Saturday. 3. One of her favourite activities is walking along the beach with her dog - Roy the Boy, a German Shorthaired Pointer. 4. She has four beautiful grandchildren, who she enjoys watching play football on the weekends. She’s their biggest fan! 5. Jen explains she is from Pottsville but travels to Movement Casuarina because it is an important part in her daily routine. She loves the open and down to earth atmosphere, the variety of classes and the instructors, and after class has coffee catch ups with the other ladies from the class. It keeps her social and she slips the sentence in - her second reason for attending the gym is she trains so she can eat. I think we all feel the same way Jen! See more

02.01.2022 The long awaited recipe for CHOC ZUCCHINI LOAF is here. If you got a taste of this lil beauty at the members morning tea, you will know what we are talking about If you didn’t get to try this tasty slice, don’t let the idea of zucchini and chocolate together scare you. It’s surprisingly delicious because the zucchini means it doesn’t dry out #moist. And of course it’s a healthier option to a choc brownie and a sneaky way to include more veg in your diet. Just don’t tell the... kids what’s in it Tip: Toast the loaf under the grill and serve with a dab of butter and you will be in chocolate heaven or alternatively put melted choc on top like we did here INGREDIENTS 2 cups blanched almond meal 1/2 cup raw cacao powder 1/2 cup cashews chopped 1 tsp cinnamon 1 tsp baking powder pinch of salt 100g butter 4 eggs 1 cup coconut cream or dairy cream 1/2 cup honey or rice malt syrup 50g dark chocolate melted 2 cups firmly packed grated zucchini (make sure you squeeze out all the excess juice - use a tea towel, and like really squeeze it so it dries out well!!) 1 tsp pure vanilla extract METHOD Preheat oven to 180 degrees and line a loaf tin with baking paper In a large mixing bowl place all the dry ingredients together and mix well. in a blender or processor place the butter, eggs, coconut cream, honey, chocolate and vanilla. Mix on low speed until smooth and combined. Add the wet ingredients to dry and mix until combined. Finally add the grated squeezed out zucchini and mix really well. Transfer to loaf tin and smooth out the top. Place in the oven for 1 hour 10 minutes or until completely cooked through. ENJOY

02.01.2022 Outdoor Pool Availability: We have some special guests, the Olympic Triathlon Team visiting our pool for training. The pool will be unavailable on Saturday 5/12/20, 3-4:30pm and Monday 7/12/20, 2-3:30pm. ...... St Ambrose have also booked the Indoor Pool 11:30-1:45pm every week day from Monday 23/11/20 - Friday 4/12/20. There will still be limited lanes available to the public in the outdoor pool. Please call reception for further details of pool availability around these times as it is changing from week to week to adjust for these groups. We know this is an inconvenience to our members but we thank you for your consideration and understanding in providing for the wider community :) Movement Casuarina
