24.01.2022 Parents often look back fondly on those simple days when they used to play catch with their son or those golden times when their daughter would chase them around the yard playing hide-and-seek for hours. Now those children are teenagers, camped out on the couch, in their room, or in the den, glued to a video game or their cell phones. They’re getting no exercise, and they’re moody. What happened to your sweet-natured, active kiddos?

23.01.2022 What a cute story for the day!

22.01.2022 Our values are what drive us We keep them simple but effective. Looking forward to see our community in the clinic!

22.01.2022 A combination of horseback riding and brain-building activities may help improve motor skills in children with neurodevelopmental conditions like autism-spectrum disorders and ADHD, a small study suggests. The combination of approaches over several months appeared to produce measurable improvements in dexterity, coordination and strength, researchers report in Frontiers in Veterinary Science, and many parents noted their child showed behavioral improvements as well.

21.01.2022 Right now, many of us are feeling a sense of lethargy and exhaustion as we ride the roller coaster that is the COVID-19 pandemic. Introducing some simple stretching each morning, or when you’re feeling particularly unmotivated, is a great way to gently move your body, release some stress and give yourself a bit of a lift . Read more about the benefits of stretching daily! ... https://buff.ly/3c7Gs7w

21.01.2022 Much attention has been given to statistics showing that only 33% of children get daily physical activity. Spending up to 7.5 hours a day in front of a screen really limits the time available to get out and play. Certainly, physical activity is good for kids’ physical well being, but is it possible that there is a link between exercise and memory?

21.01.2022 Happy Friday Everyone

20.01.2022 An interesting look at how COVID has changed lives....for the good?!

17.01.2022 Strength training has the potential to reduce muscle weakness and improve walking ability of children with cerebral palsy (CP), but should be adapted to each child’s muscle response, a study reports. The study, Strength Training Effects on Muscle Forces and Contributions to Whole-Body Movement in Cerebral Palsy, was published in the Journal of Motor Behavior. Strength training is often prescribed for children with cerebral palsy. Prior studies have found some correlation between muscle strength and walking ability, but the results vary from child to child.

16.01.2022 Nearly half of Australian's don’t achieve the minimum recommended physical activity levels and Australians with musculoskeletal conditions are even less active, potentially because their condition acts as a barrier. Government guidelines recommend adults do 75 to 150 minutes of vigorous exercise, like running, or 150-300 minutes of moderate exercise, like walking, every week. On top of this, they recommend muscle strengthening activities at least twice a week. Physiotherapists have an important role to play in promoting physical activity to patients, especially those with musculoskeletal conditions .

16.01.2022 A tip from the professionals: Always check strapping tape in a sensitive place for 24 hours - before using in children especially those with low muscle tone or hypermobility to make sure they don’t have a nasty skin reaction!

15.01.2022 We understand how difficult it can be to get a new born baby or a child with extra needs out of the house. We also understand how many appointments with different therapists and specialists families often have. With that in mind we are happy to offer home, or telehealth consultations. Telehealth consultations also help our families in rural and remote settings in Australia and the South Pacific access Melissa's expertise. We offer daycare, kindy and school visits to liaise with staff, provide therapeutic and equipment advice.

11.01.2022 Walking to school is out. Playgrounds are a no-go. Swimming lessons are suspended. But coronavirus restrictions or not, children still need physical activity and quite a lot of it. There's no need to beat yourself up about not implementing a perfectly structured exercise routine for your kids during the coronavirus pandemic.... But there are straightforward ways to make sure your family is getting enough physical activity to stay healthy.

08.01.2022 While 2020 has been an unprecedented year around the world, this is especially true for the health workforce who are working tirelessly in the fight against COVID-19 . Physiotherapists are one key group working hard to help people throughout this pandemic. Currently, there are more than 35,000 physiotherapists working in Australia and about one in five are working in a hospital on the frontline caring for patients with COVID-19.

04.01.2022 Hands up if you love a buggy! Buggys are fantastic for children with a disability affecting endurance and ability to keep up on family outings but not obviously disability focussed! You can pick up great ones from lots of different places including Kmart!

02.01.2022 R u ok? Thank you Jo Connaughton for your great message.

02.01.2022 Children with autism often receive lots of specialized care: Some complete as many as 40 hours per week of applied behavioral analysis (ABA), the most common behavioral treatment for autism. Others may also see a speech or occupational therapist. But for many children, chances are that exercise is not part of the prescribed routine, says Meghann Lloyd, associate professor of health sciences at the University of Ontario in Canada. Yet a growing body of data suggests that exercise offers many of the benefits that traditional autism therapies do plus a few they don’t.
