16.01.2022 ** What is plagiocephaly? Plagiocephaly is an uneven or asymmetrical head shape, or a flattened spot on the back or side of a baby’s head. This change in head shape can happen because newborn skull bones are soft and moveable. ** Causes of Plagiocephaly:... Heads of newborn babies can change shape easily because newborn skull bones are soft, thin and flexible. Some babies might look like they have a flat head or a flattened spot on the back or side of their heads. It might happen because babies lie with their heads in the same position for a long time. In some babies, more severe plagiocephaly can be caused by tight neck muscles, a strong preference for turning their heads to one side, or low muscle tone.

16.01.2022 Unstructured play is important for all children. It allows them the freedom to explore, create and discover without rules or guidelines. It’s been shown to foster cognitive development while boosting physical development and social and emotional development. It also helps creativity and imagination, problem-solving abilities and social skills. So get your kids out there playing!

14.01.2022 What are fine motor skills and what are some activities you can do with your child? Fine motor skills are involved in smaller movements that occur in the wrists, hands, fingers, feet and toes. They involve smaller actions such as picking up objects between the thumb and finger, writing carefully, and even blinking. These two motor skills work together to provide coordination.
14.01.2022 Not sure if your child is on track to start school? Or do you just want to see what areas of development they may need extra support with before starting school? I now offer developmental screening assessments for children aged 3 to 5 years. The assessment takes 20 to 30 minutes and screens all areas of development. It includes a summary letter of results and recommendations for further assessment or support if required which can be provided to your child's educator. If you are a parent interested assessments can be done in the clinic or at kindys and schools. I can also do whole of group/ class screening onsite for kindys/ schools that are interested. Please contact me by PM or phone 0428186006
11.01.2022 Play is super-serious business! According to Early Childhood Learning Australia, Play provides active exploration that assists in building and strengthening brain pathways. Play creates a brain that has increased ‘flexibility and improved potential for learning later in life’ (Lester & Russell, 2008, p. 9).
