23.01.2022 We loved dancing to this track in jazz last term. What blast from the past by Sonia Dada. I challenge you to listen to this song and not start dancing. Jazz can be so many things - from something groovy and relaxed like this one, to theatrical jazz, street jazz, lyrical jazz ... to name a few. What's your favourite style of jazz? Do you have a fave choreographer?

23.01.2022 Contemporary spinal warmup - so liquid and gorgeous. Is there anywhere else you move your spine like that?

23.01.2022 Have you ever thought about starting ballet as an adult, but you're not sure where to start, or if it's even possible? Something I’ve discovered over the last few years is that there are many, many women who would love to start learning ballet, but for some reason or another haven’t taken that first step. So I have written a three-part blog post series about starting ballet as an adult.... PART 1 covers working out what you want to get out of ballet, and choosing a studio. PART 2 is all about preparing to start. It covers what to expect when you first start, how to have a positive mindset that will support you as you start this new endeavour, and how to find support for your new hobby online to supplement what you learn in the studio. PART 3 includes tips foryour first class, how to remember what you’ve learnt from week to week, and the value of keeping a ballet journal. You can read the ‘Starting Ballet as an Adult’ series by clicking here https://wp.me/p9jJyV-3gc\ Have you been thinking of starting ballet but haven’t been sure how to get started? If I haven’t answered your questions, let me know and I’ll do my best to answer it.

19.01.2022 I’ve been working really hard on a re-launch of my Introduction to Ballet for Adults online course and am so excited it’s nearly ready. Here’s a sneak peak of the dance I teach in the course (it includes most of the steps learnt throughout the course), to be able to bring all of those movements together. I’m adding in a lot of extras to the course, which previously consisted of 8 lessons, each of which had a tutorial on a new step or development of something from a previous ...lesson. The new course will also have follow along practice videos, so you don’t have to go through the whole tutorial videos each day, and so it just flows so you can get a workout while you’re learning. There will also be an online community, weekly Q&As with me, a complimentary copy of my Level 1 Ballet guide, and more. ________________ Have you been thinking of starting ballet but haven’t had access of had the confidence to join an adult beginner ballet class? If so, let me know what’s stopping you, and what could be included in a course like this to make it more possible for you. . . . . #learnballet #balletdance #balletcourse #adultballetclass #balletclassonline #onlineballet #adultballerina #beginnerballet

02.01.2022 Sometimes I used to get frustrated in ballet class when I wanted to get some great exercise, but there was a lot of stop start, teacher talking, going over exercises. I wanted to work up a sweat but it just wasn't happening. So for some time I'd been thinking of a ballet class, which had real ballet exercises (not barre, yoga, or pilates movements), to non-ballet music, which worked up a sweat and built cardio fitness, strength and endurance. So here is my first 30 minute Ba...llet Burn & Sweat workout ... Real ballet exercises, without the stop and start. Continuous, follow along movement that only requires basic ballet technique, but packs a punch when it comes to getting that burn and working up a sweat. And with a sound track to get your blood pumping. This is just a trailer, but you can access the full workout for free by signing up for a free 2 week trial of our On Demand Video Content Library, hosted on Namastream. If you'd like to give it a go, head to https://app.namastream.com/#/mtlonline/buy/product/11088 and sign up for the free trial. (The site will ask for your card details, but you won't be charged for 14 days. Enjoy your 14 days, and you'll either be charged on day 15 ($10/month) or you can cancel before then.)

01.01.2022 HOW TO SETUP YOUR OWN HOME BALLET SPACE COVID-19 has forced many of us to re-think how and where we dance. I live in a pretty small house, and don’t have any space for a dedicated studio, so while I was teaching on zoom, every night my lounge room was turned into my own private dance studio, with a chair as a barre, and my video camera as my mirror. I even made my own portable dance floor (mainly for practicing Flamenco, for which I’m a student not a teacher) using interlo...cking foam squares and some MDF board. I had a box full of equipment (extension cord, power board, phone charger, web cam, lead for my lights) that I unpacked every night and repacked at the end of class. It got me thinking about how important it is to have a home-based ballet practice. After all, if you don’t take some time out of class to at least think about ballet (or your chosen dance style), you’ll have trouble progressing. So I’ve created a simple PDF essential guide to starting a home based ballet practice’ which goes into various options for creating your own practice space, no matter how small your home or limited your budget. Download it from https://bit.ly/3mMtGjN Have you already created your own home ballet practice space? If so, what options did you go for makeshift and temporary, or permanent and full kitted out, or somewhere in between?

01.01.2022 Today is that one day of the year that so many people think is the start of something new. An opportunity to make this year different than last year (and don't we all want that?) I'm not so keen on new year's resolutions. I think they set you up for failure because you can't just change everything from one day to the next. What I advocate instead is focussing on changing your mindset, which is something you can do at any time of year. Today, on new year's day 2021, I'm sha...ring this post which I wrote last year, and have spruced up to suit this year instead. Many people didn't have much choice about how 2020 worked out, but I still believe that the right mindset helps you to make your life what you want it to be, despite adverse conditions. What do you think? Can we make lemonade when life sends us lemons? https://www.movethroughlife.com.au/mindset-tips-for-dance/
