17.01.2022 A big CONGRATULATIONS to Move Well Eat Well Award School- St Mary's College Hobart Tasmania St Mary’s College is passionate about the local environment and reducing their ecological footprint, one step at a time. Their school canteen plays an important role in the College’s sustainability movement, which looks at positive ways that they can improve waste management practices and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. Initiated by the College’s student-led sustainabilit...y group, The Footprint Project, the canteen serves healthy, tasty meals while doing away with single-use products and packaging. The College has also introduced reusable plates, bowls, cups and cutlery for all staff and students to enjoy their meals before being returned to the canteen for washing and re-use. These changes were implemented at the end of October 2019 and have led to a significant decrease in waste volume, with only one garbage bin of rubbish now coming from the canteen each day. This approach to the canteen at St Mary’s College supported the Junior School being awarded gold level standard for their canteen menu by the Tasmanian School Canteen Association. Junior School students recently helped plant an edible garden and can't wait to try the broad beans, garlic, white radish, pak choi, spring onion and rocket in upcoming canteen creations. What a FANTASTIC effort and GREAT way to get students to 'Plant Fruit and Veg in their Lunchboxes'. Well Done St Mary's!!! Remember to check out the Move Well Eat Well website for more information and resources http://www.movewelleatwell.tas.gov.au

17.01.2022 As we enter the last few weeks of Autumn, encourage your children to take notice of the changing colours. This can be done when out walking as a family or in your backyard. From trees and plants, to watching the sun come up or go down. Taking photos of these changes will amaze you. It could be over a couple of days for changes in plant colours, to a matter of minutes with the sun rising. Check out these pictures of yesterday’s sunrise. Each image was captured 3 minutes apart!
