22.01.2022 Slim pickings for sure at the cinema. But thought French Exit with Michelle Pfeiffer worth a night out. It wasn’t! She stars (and plays perfectly) the widowed eccentric Socialite that heads to Paris to live out her final days on finding her funds have dried up. Her adult son goes with her and her cat. It starts to get a tad odd, as the cat may or may not emobody her dead husband, and as random people descend upon their flat. Very slow, a little strange and strained. Won’t get that two hours back! 1.5 stars for the star MP. #michellepfeiffer #frenchexit #moviereview #moviereviewsinoz

21.01.2022 The Courier. Benedict Cumberbatch stars in this true story of a British sales guy who becomes the go between for a Russian spy and the US and British Govts during the Cuban missile crisis. Fascinating to watch the drama build as the main character Greville Wynne gets caught deeper and deeper into what is likely to have saved a nuclear outbreak back then. He ‘couriered’ over 5000 documents and pictures whilst playing the dumb salesman. Well worth the night out if you can. Mr cummerbund(!) is stellar as always. 3 stars. #thecourier #moviereview #moviereviewsinoz #BenedictCumberbatch

20.01.2022 Land. Is the directorial debut of Robin Wright (aka the princess bride) as she also stars in this movie set in the beautifully rugged Rocky Mountains. She has moved to escape the world and people as she isolates herself in what we discover is enormous grief. She finds the harsh land almost too much but a hunter helps to draw her back to life. Stunning scenery in the slow moving drama with little dialogue that eventually draws you emotionally into the story by the final scenes. 2 stars. #robinwright #land #landmovie #moviereview #moviereviews #moviereviewsinoz

19.01.2022 Wonder Woman 1984. Gal Gadot gets the costume on for another flick of the whip. With Kirsten Wiig succumbing to her deepest wish and becoming a force to be reckoned with as the world gets out of control. It is just all a bit cheesy and not just the 1980’s cheesy stuff. Making it in the end all just a little ordinary. There has been a lot of hype for a long time. So this may have added to the expectation. But it is holiday time and has been an ordinary year so still worth a trip to the big screen if you can. 3 stars. Extra half for the cameo in the final credits. Nice touch. #ww84 #galgadot #lyndacarter #chrispine #kristenwiig #moviereviewsinoz

14.01.2022 Eric Bana stars in this crime drama set in a drought affected Victorian town. He comes to pay his respects to a mate from 20 years ago in an apparent family murder suicide. But he gets drawn into the local town drama, lies and past grudges as he seeks to find what really happened. Whilst a crime from 20 years past continues to haunt him and the town. I kept waiting and waiting for the action to start. It never came. But a great drama, good to see a bunch Aussie actors plying their trade. But wait for it to come on the small screen, not a big screen movie IMHO. 2.5 stars. #ericbana #thedrymovie #thedry #moviereviews #moviereviewsinoz

11.01.2022 Judi Dench stars as the matron of an English finishing school for Nazi elite daughters just prior to WW2. Which of course became a bit problematic and raised the interest of the intelligence forces of both countries of the time as the English wanted to incarcerate them and the German wanted to get them out or... Engaging enough for a night out if you can. 2.5 stars. The school actually existed. #judidench #sixminutestomidnight #moviereview #moviereviesinoz

09.01.2022 Let Him Go Kevin Costner and Diane Lane star as grandparents looking to get their grandson out of a harmful situation. Starts slow but tension gradually builds as the stark difference of what family loyalty can mean is explored. Good or harm. Great use of music and light to get you closer to the edge of the seat as the story unfolds. 3 stars... Get out to the cinema if you can and it’s safe folks. Or they will soon be gone forever. #lethimgo #kevincostner #dianelane #moviereview #moviereviewsinoz

07.01.2022 The Comeback Trail. Morgan Freeman, Tommy Lee Jones and Robert DeNiro join forces with their tongue firmly in cheek for this bit of fun movie about making a movie. A down on his luck movie maker (RD) gets inspired to make out he is making a new movie only so he can get the insurance on his main character (TLJ) by knocking him off. This will allow him to repay the loan shark (MF) that he owes big time. In the end they accidentally make the best movie ever. This was a tad be...tter and funnier than anticipated with all those combined wrinkles and experience. Little bit of language. But three stars for the three stars. (If it’s safe to get out in your part of the world. Do it so the theatres can stay open. Only one other couple with us last night. Ain’t gonna survive like that.) #thecomebacktrail #morganfreeman #tommyleejones #robertdeniro #moviereview #moviereviewsinoz

04.01.2022 Anne Hathaway, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Ben Kingsley star in this rather slow heist movie set at the start of the UK lockdown. The couple find themselves at the end of their relationship as lock down kicks in forcing them to re evaluate their life, jobs and relationship, as the uniqueness of the time creates an opportunity to nick a $3M diamond as Harrods is closed down for Covid. Could have been half an hour shorter and the heist a tad more developed. But hey we are still waiting for the upcoming blockbusters. 2 stars. #lockeddown #annehathaway #chiwetelejiofor #benkingsley #moviereviews #moviereviesinoz

03.01.2022 George Clooney stars and directs this cinema, and soon to be on Netflix, movie. The lines are getting blurred! Mixing the raw danger and beauty of both the Arctic and outer space in this slow moving picture that builds in tension as a space ship returning to a devastated earth can’t make contact and is unaware of what it is coming back to. Some great scenes with George doing a pretty decent job in both roles but it really does need the big screen to make the most of the vast...ness of the two locations. Apparently the filming in Iceland was so cold that George’s eyelids froze shut and he had to be thawed out with a hair dryer! Worth a look. 3 stars. #GeorgeClooney #moviereviewsinoz #TheMidnightSky #DavidOyelowo #moviereview
