18.01.2022 As part of the Town Hall Relaunch Festival, the documentary Dancing in Southern Shoes (rated G) will be screened as part of the celebrations. This film examin...es Albany’s rich dance history, from its Indigenous beginnings up to modern times. Made in 2009 by local filmmaker Lauchlan Gillett, the movie incorporates archival material and interviews to create an overview of what was in previous times the premiere social activity and an important aspect of Albany’s cultural history. Stay after the film for two contemporary dance preformance by MoVo Dance Ensemble. ‘Memories from a Park Bench’ is a melancholic piece that tells the story of 3 elderly women reminiscing about their early days as dancers and explores the painful acceptance of a withering mind and body. ‘The Don’ts of Dancing’ is a comical piece that explores ladies’ dance etiquette in the Victorian times, and the MoVo dancers have a lot of fun defying the rules! Cost: Gold Coin Donation Tickets are available through Paperbark Merchant at https://paperbark.sales.ticketsearch.com/sales/sales/sales This event is featuring as part of the Town Hall Relaunch Festival. 18.01.2022 The MoVo gals facilitated their first 'Let's Dance' Dance Inclusion Workshop on Friday 19th March. We taught the participants a choreographed routine using shapes and waves as our inspiration, and then we facilitated a creative movement section using fabric and sounds of the ocean. We also put on a short performance that demonstrated different dance styles (classical, contemporary, jive). It was a lot of fun! Here are some pics of us all in action... The next 'Let's Dance' workshop is on 16th April. Spread the word! The MoVo team (Wendy Lynn, Anyes) Regional Arts WA #regionalartsresilience
