07.01.2022 NO MORE COMPS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE This just in from Surfing Vic: The developing situation with the spread of COVID-19 is having a huge impact on our community and the surfing industry, like so many others, is working through the challenges this presents.... Surfing Victoria has considered the advice currently provided by government and health officials and has decided to suspend all sanctioned events, coaching and programs indefinitely with immediate effect. This includes all upcoming coaching and officiating courses, events, Indigenous Programs, Coasting Programs and Surfers Rescue 24/7 courses. The exception to this is the Rip Curl Pro which is owned by the World Surf League (WSL). We are monitoring the Rip Curl Pro event direction closely with the WSL and Victorian government. We understand this decision will be disappointing for many however protecting the health and wellbeing of our staff, members and wider community is our overriding priority. With the situation evolving daily, there is no timeline on these restrictions however we hope that the sooner Australia can contain and slow the transmission of COVID-19 the sooner our community can return to business as usual. We will continue to make informed decisions based on advice and direction from government and public health experts with the health and wellbeing of our community as the priority. We will be doing everything we can to keep our staff free from infection, and this will involve minimisng their public exposure. We ask that all members of the surfing community do their bit to reduce the spread of COVID-19, and practice good hygiene and social distancing. We will be working to continue to find ways to engage and support our community, and as soon as we consider it safe again, we will connect with the surfing community in person. Many of you will have questions and we will do our utmost to answer them in a timely manner. We will monitor the situation closely and keep you informed via our website, newsletter and social media channels. Please direct all enquiries via email to: [email protected] Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Ashleigh Wall Chair Surfing Victoria Adam Robertson CEO Surfing Victoria
