25.01.2022 This week my conversations with clients getting used to working from home (many of them with children who are adjusting to schooling from home) have centred on productivity. Here are a few simple things I've learnt over the past 20 years that help keep me 'productive' in my home office: Set a routine and accept that this might not be the same as what you're used to. Do what works in your household, and don't forget to take breaks! Turn your phone over so you don't see ev...ery single notification. Every time you look at your phone it interrupts your concentration and reduces productivity. Turn your phone to silent and put it on vibrate for when it rings. You might miss a call or two but that's what voicemail is for Make a list of 6 things to get done in your day, it's more realistic to achieve 6 things than a long list of everything (this is a tip I stole from Mary Kay and it works!). Consider altering the number of hours you work. When you're in a workplace you have interruptions and distractions so even if you're at work 8 hours a day that doesn't mean you're solidly working for 8 hours. At home, with less distractions, you are more productive so you can get more done in less time. Be kind to yourself. If you can't sit at your computer for 40 hours a week, that's okay. Prioritise and do what you can * Photo taken on one of my working from home office 'breaks'
24.01.2022 During the 1990s The Warrego Watchman in Cunnamulla was named The Western Sun, which is where my newspaper career began. James was someone we all looked up to while studying journalism at the University of Southern Queensland - Australia and I love that he travelled the world, returned home, and continues to bring a printed newspaper to southwest Qld #lastmanstanding

21.01.2022 *Working from home tip - getting through the mid afternoon slump* My eyes get very tired at around 3 from staring at a computer all day so my routine is: - Take crazy Dalmatian for a walk - Look up
20.01.2022 Tawny Frogmouth have been my favourite bird since my very first bird book as a toddler - this photo is perfect! While I'm on the topic of birds, it has reminded me of one of my favourite episodes of ABC Conversations with Bill Bailey - check it out:http://ow.ly/bkQP50Allt2 PS trying to get through my post-lunch slump hence the random post that is just me trying to reinspire myself!

19.01.2022 I spend hours and hours at a computer each week, and a lot of that time is on social media creating content for my clients - every now and then I take a breath and realise that I have yet again neglected my own social space. This is like my very own never-ending story, it's been this way from the beginning, I'm not going to promise that this will change! I count my blessings every day and certainly don't take it for granted that I am always so busy - I get up each morning an...d hope that I can create some small piece of magic for my clients and for myself. Earlier this week I saved this quote that stopped me in my tracks while social media scrolling. Thank you to all my sunshine people! #stayclosetopeoplewhomakeyoufeellikesunshine
18.01.2022 * UPDATED Several times a year I have the privilege of writing, editing and project managing the VicNoTill member magazine - I have interviewed and written about so many incredible Australian farmers and the latest edition is no exception. As with everything I do, this project is a collaboration between myself and an incredibly talented graphic designer - Brent Occleshaw from Gooseboy Productions. ... I love seeing Brent bring my words to life on the page, and in this ever-increasing digital world I also love that this is a printed product that sits on ute dashboards and front seats and in tractor and header cabs. My Dad, an agronomist who has a lifelong passion for looking after our soils, also reads every edition from cover to cover and then calls me up for an indepth soil chat * Dad has just called, his copy arrived today and he's already read it, and we've had our soil chat #regenerativeag #vicnotill #magazine #writewritewrite Vic No-Till
18.01.2022 A little story over on my author page which is a great demonstration of how businesses can lift and support each other. I'm seeing more and more innovation from businesses partnering/sharing/collaborating and the benefits can be great. I loved being invited to be a guest reviewer for this bookstore because I could see how lots of people could benefit: * The authors who write the books - what a boost to see their beautiful books circulating on social, have a dedicated wall in... a bookstore, and to have them recommended to others. This results in more sales then more books are published and that employs printers, distributors, agents and inspires authors to write more books! * The bookstores who sell the books - this is their bread and butter, so when you buy from them you are helping keep their staff employed. And what do I get out of it? Maybe a few books sales which will be fantastic. But mostly pure joy. And that for me is enough Collins Booksellers Merimbula Our Merimbula Merimbula Chamber of Commerce
14.01.2022 Again I've neglected my own social media space while I live vicariously through the lives of my clients who are doing such amazing things! On the first day of spring, I thought I'd check in for a belated update on one of many projects from August...I have loved writing about and telling the amazing story of the Wimmera River in Western Victoria for the past 20+ years. This quarterly update I put out for Wimmera CMA in collaboration with environmental water guru Greg Fletcher ...and Jacpea Graphic Design was an opportunity to look back at some of the film projects I've had the privilege of project managing with amazing talented creatives. Words, graphic design, film making and photography combine to share the unique story of the only inland river in Victoria that doesn't flow into the sea. #writing #publishing #photography #WimmeraRiver #waterways

So here I am, popping in as infrequently as ever to give an update on what I’m up to I had an opportunity to work with one of my favourite designers Jacpea Graphic Design this week for my very first client who I still love working with as much today as when I started with them more than 20 years ago Wimmera CMA

06.01.2022 At mpms we have a saying, which came from Shelley Baker from Horsham about 20 years ago when I was freaking out trying to meet a deadline on a major project - 'we 'aint saving lives luv'. Working in a deadline driven environment all these years, I've definitely called upon this many many times. But at the moment we actually do feel like we're saving lives. All the work that is coming out of the mpms studio at the moment is linked to helping businesses, communities, community ...organisations, councils, government organisations - everyone - get back on their feet. One of my long-term clients is Merimbula RSL and they reopen tomorrow June 4. I am so excited for their staff, the members and guests to have a welcoming place to gather. Yes, it will be a lot different to what we're all used to, but it's a big exciting step forward in so many ways. A huge shoutout to one of my fabulous graphic designers Lara Walsh from Indie lime and web and social media extraordinaire Helen Haenig, Genevieve Mussell from 2EC and Denise Dion from Merimbula News Weekly for all the work they've done to support the reopening. Here is a photo I took from the club the other day when we were finalising details for tomorrow. What a view. If you're looking for me, this is where I'll be Lara Walsh
05.01.2022 If you saw my earlier post, this week I worked on a project with one of my lovely designers Jackie Peacock from Jacpea Graphic Design and coincidentally this memory has shown up today. I absolutely loved writing this beautiful book which is inspired by the story of the native plants which were the medicine chest, hardware store and supermarket of the Aboriginal people. Still one of the most special projects I've been part of
05.01.2022 One of my amazing clients who have been in business for around 25 years is having an incredible response to one of the Facebook stories I put together for them. A lot of their customers are keen gardeners so spring is a really fun time to be creating content for them. My goal was to keep it simple and make people feel good, it's nothing super clever but it ticks all the boxes. Don't be too overwhelmed by managing the social media accounts for your business - keep it simple, keep it real, be creative and plan ahead. Make sure you have great photos as well
