14.01.2022 Today is the feast of St. Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of lost items and one of the most influential saints in the Church. Born Fernando Martins in Portug...al, he entered the community of Canons Regular of the Order of the Holy Cross at just 15. After his priestly ordination, some Franciscan friars settled in a nearby village and he was strongly attracted to their simple, evangelical lifestyle. Fernando obtained permission to leave the Canons Regular and join the new order, adopting the name Anthony. Beyond his education and preaching skills, St. Anthony is known as one of the great miracle-workers, healing the sick and raising the dead. One of his most famous miracles involved a group of fish. In the town of Rimini, Italy, after the townspeople refused to listen to him and even mocked him, St. Anthony turned to the ocean and started preaching. Soon a large school of fish rose up from the water and appeared to listen intently, only leaving after St. Anthony finished his sermon. He was named patron of lost things after a novice took his prized book of psalms, and after much prayer within 24 hours both the book and the young man returned to the order. He’s also the patron saint of amputees, animals, Brazil, elderly people, horses, oppressed people, pregnant women and shipwrecks. Saint Anthony of Padua, pray for us. #anthonyofpadua #anthony #feastday #franciscanfriars #lost #amputees #horses #elderly #shipwrecks #catholics #Brazil #animals See more

14.01.2022 For this weekend's two minute homily the Noosa District parish's Fr Jason Middleton reflects on the parable of the Bridesmaids, some well set, others having to ...scrounge for oil at the last minute: "The point of difference between the foolish and the wise is intentionality and preparedness...In this life many of us have been blessed with the opportunity to be set on fire with God’s love by the power of the Holy Spirit. However, the lamps of our faith and belief only receive sufficient oil for that time when the flame burns fresh and bright. This therefore needs constant attention to maintain the flame." 01.01.2022 RCIA is a faith formation journey designed to help adults who are interested to understand what Catholics believe, why we do the things we do, and what makes the Church founded by Jesus still significant in today’s world. All people who are open to discerning their personal experience of faith and to learning more about the Catholic Church are welcome to begin the RCIA process. This enables inquirers to explore the rich depth of Catholicism in a welcoming environment and if d...esired eventually, to be welcomed into full communion with the Catholic community of faith. These sessions are friendly series of informative evenings. It also provides an opportunity for Catholics who wish to deepen their understanding of the faith. The process takes place over an extended period of time culminating at Pentecost with the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. It is held every Tuesdays (4pm -5pm) from Advent through to Pentecost. The first information gathering will be on Tuesday 1st December at 4pm at the parish Centre (36 Verner Street).
