25.01.2022 Hey Fencers, Just a short update on what's currently going on. 1. The NSW Minister for Sports has recently announced that indoor training sessions in sports facilities may now have 20 athletes (plus coaches). However we still have to follow the 4m2 per person rule and abide by the 1.5m social distancing rules.... 2. The MUSAC (our venue for fencing) is in the process of slowly reopening and has opened up its pools and badminton courts. In the second phase of reopening (the date of which is tba) they will allow sports clubs like us to once again make venue hire bookings. This process is guided by both government protocols and the university so we will just have to wait and see what and when they make a decision. These are small but significant steps to the hopeful restart of our club. Thanks to everyone for your patience - we hope you are still continuing to stay safe! Also to the MQ students (as well as others) who are currently in the middle of or just finished their exams - good luck!

24.01.2022 Hey Fencers! To help everyone stay connected and mentally sane during this difficult time we've set up a discord server. Discord is basically a blend of facebook and skype that allows anyone within our club to start a chat or voice call that an unlimited number of members from our club can join in on. Please join in on our discord server to help support each other stay mentally healthy. ... To find out how to join our server and use discord - please check your email for details. (If you didn't get an email, let us know!)

22.01.2022 Hi Fencers, Our club is finally finally (for real this time) coming back next week on Friday the 17th. There's a couple of changes the Centre has made to keep us safe though.... 1. The Sports Centre now closes at 8PM which means our new training time is 6PM to 8PM (not ideal we know). 2. There is a maximum of 20 people who can attend our sessions at once. Because of the new limit on the max number of people who attend - all those who wish to attend must register via a quick online survey. The registration link for next week (we will post a new one each week to keep things fair) is: https://forms.gle/qn5tCwPzDfUzcADn9 The deadline to register for each week is Thursday 8PM. If you don't make it as one of the first 20 people to register - we'll email you back and let you know. Please also make sure you read and follow our new COVID safety rules as well.

21.01.2022 uh sorry Matthew Sun forgot to post your pics from the Junior National Championships 2020. Everyone please enjoy this clip of Matthew's beautiful screaming. He represented us and now this is our public symbol:

20.01.2022 Hey Fencers, Here's the link to register for next week's training session (07/08/20): https://forms.gle/EJr1qt6Wx58L4roXA. Remember the deadline is Thursday 8PM and you can edit your response via the response receipt in your email if you need to.... We also had a few new members join on this week from last semester's Learn to Fence course so please help welcome them into the club!

19.01.2022 Hi Fencers, If you would like to come to our training session this week please register via this survey by Thursday 8PM: https://forms.gle/zh3KKuTTojNi2cvg6 We'll also keep you updated on if there are any policy changes due to COVID-19 cases.... If you haven't received any emails from us recently (i.e. you are not on our email list) and would like to keep up to date with what is going on in the club please let us know!

18.01.2022 A reminder to those of you who came to visit us during O-week or anyone generally interested in our club. Don't miss out on our FREE Demo Night tonight! Come to MUSAC (Macquarie Sports Centre) 7:30 PM for a free show of what our club and fencing is like, and we'll also teach you some of the basics of fencing . Just let the front desk know what you're here for and they'll show you in!... Once again, this is a completely FREE opportunity to unlease all that rage that you've been holding in that tormented soul of yours. The only things you'll need to bring is yourself, some joggers and a comfortable pair of track suit pants. See also the link below as well as our 'About' section for details on joining on officially as a member. Our Learn to Fence Course starts next Friday so make sure that if you're a newbie interested in joining that you sign up/show up by then!

17.01.2022 Hey Fencers, Here's the registration link (deadline Thurs 8PM) if you want to come to our training session on the 31st: https://forms.gle/SCCNAi4kVKLvPq2a7... Let us know also if you haven't gotten any recent emails from us and we'll put you on the email list!

16.01.2022 Hello Fencers, Hows the building an army of toilet paper going? Just some updates due to the coronavirus (and no we're not going to be all panicky or make you buy toilet paper (why??)).... Basically: 1. There's no evidence of significant transmission in Australia - so business as usual [please don't panick and start stockpiling ] 2. Treat it like the flu - if you feel sick it's better to stay at home and recover for next week than risk getting your friends sick as well 3. If you for some reason haven't been practicing the very basics of hygiene - here's the perfect excuse to start

14.01.2022 Dear MQ Fencers, It is with great sadness I must inform you that MQ Fencing will not go ahead in the coming weeks. Following advice from the University and in accordance with the Government’s directives regarding the current COVID-19 outbreak, all MQ Fencing activities will be cancelled, effective immediately, until the end of April. ... There will be no fencing this Friday, 20/03/2020. We currently intend on resuming normal activities on Friday 1st of May, should the situation permit it. I would like to stress that this course of action is not a result of any MQ Fencer being infected with the COVID-19 virus, and there is no need to worry if you have attended our fencing sessions in the past weeks. To the best of our knowledge, all our members remain healthy. The timing of this outbreak comes at a difficult time for the MQ Fencing club, as we are in the middle of our Learn to Fence course for Semester 1 2020. I realise that suspending our fencing activities will cause significant disruption to our New Fencers. So I would like to reassure everyone that we will try to make alternative arrangements or accommodate refunds as best we can. - If requested, we are prepared to offer a partial refund to any Learn to Fence member of $30, equal to the value of 2 sessions ($75/5=$15) - If any Learn to Fence member does not wish to request a refund, they may join the Semester 2 Learn to Fence course for the full five sessions if they so wish. (Our next Learn to Fence course is scheduled to begin with week 1 of Semester 2, 31/07/2020) - Any Learn to Fence member who has completed the current 3 sessions of our Learn to Fence course may still opt to join the Club for the discounted $20 Novice membership. - If there is enough interest, and if the situation permits, we will try to reschedule the final 2 sessions of the current course. However, please note that at this time, this does not seemlikely. Please contact us with any queries in regard to the Learn to Fence and we will respond to each of you individually. There is no need to rush a decision on what arrangements you would like to make, but we would appreciate responses as soon as possible so we can have an idea of the logistics. This is a difficult time for all, and I hope you all stay safe and healthy during the coming months. We will provide updates via email and through our Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/mqfencing/ as necessary, and we are always here to answer any questions you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact us if there is anything we can help with. With best wishes, Kai Riley-McPhee MQ Fencing Club President
