06.01.2022 It was a busy weekend of volunteer assessment in the north of the state over the past few days as 13 volunteers from MR Wooli, MR Evans Head, MR Point Danger, Mr Cape Byron and MR Ballina, led by trainers Courtney Greenslade and Ian Grimwood, undertook a Fire Fighting and Sea Survival course in Ballina. The course provided the volunteers with vital skills to help them should there be an emergency at sea. As well as life-raft training at Ballina pool, the volunteers also under...took practical and theory training in flare deployment and in fire training using both fire extinguishers and blankets. Earlier in the weekend MR Cape Byron volunteer Patrick Deprez received his rating as Marine Rescue Radio Operator and MR Ballina volunteer Norm Lannoy had his Trainer Assessor qualifications validated. 04.01.2022 Marine Rescue Cape Byron member Rob Asquith's service to the Australian community and contribution to boating safety on the Northern Rivers has been recognised with the award of the National Medal. Marine Rescue NSW Northern Rivers Regional Operations Manager John Murray attended tonight's unit meeting, at the Byron Bay RSL Club, to make the official presentation to Rob. The National Medal recognises long and diligent service by members of recognised government and voluntary ...organisations who risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in enforcement of the law or in times of emergency or natural disaster. Rob joined our unit in 2007, serving as Unit Commander from 2012 to 2016 and Deputy Commander from 2017 to 2018. Congratulations on this well-deserved award, Rob!

03.01.2022 Thanks to the mild weather and generally good boating conditions, Marine Rescue volunteers were kept busy up and down the NSW coast over the weekend. A total of 39 rescues were performed, of which 9 were emergencies, with a total of 79 people rescued. A big thank you to our dedicated volunteers for this wonderful effort....
