16.01.2022 It's been a massive year of local news reporting by our team: check out the top 20 most read stories on Tropic Now for 2019. Led by one of the best in the business Renee Cluff, and joined in the past month by Alina Polishuk, we've managed to break some big exclusive stories, write some fun listicles and investigate and report on stuff that's important to the local community. Producing the news in any medium isn't cheap, and many people still think it should be a free communit...y service despite the costs involved. That's why I don't begrudge News Corp (and others) for introducing paywalls. Journalism has to be paid for, somehow. So, in an era when the viability of local news production is increasingly threatened (or in some cases decimated), it is only due to the support of our advertisers and Tropic's diverse business ecosystem that we're able to invest in journalism, which has benefited Cairns in multi-layered ways despite the occasional angry call or email we get when someone disagrees with an article or angle of a story. What a great, diverse list of articles the Tropic team has published this year... led, naturally, by tales of crocs and snakes but also featuring food, business news, a rapper and a banned Gilligans video, among other stories. Thanks everyone for your support, your shares and your feedback this year. Here's to an even bigger years of news gathering in 2020.

16.01.2022 More great news for Cairns

15.01.2022 Launching next Friday October 2. Excited to announce I'm hitting the airwaves with a show called The King Review on 4CA. The one-hour show will air from midday each Friday after John Mackenzie's Talkback. I'm doing a six-week run of shows to cover the state election period with a mix of in-depth interviews, local characters and other bits and pieces. Definitely not wall-to-wall politics though - lots of issues and topics to cover. ... You can tune in each Friday at 846AM, stream it on radio apps or listen live at www.4ca.com.au. See more

15.01.2022 Tropic Now EXCLUSIVE: Up to 70,000 people in the Cairns-Far North Queensland region will contract coronavirus, according to new Queensland Health modelling. Whi...le 80% of those will have "mild and moderate symptoms", up to 14,000 people will require medical assistance, placing a major strain on hospitals, GPs and pharmacies. Pharmacy Guild Queensland president Trent Twomey, who received high-level briefings from health authorities today, told Tropic Now the situation can be managed over coming months so long as people remain calm and follow advice from health officials.
