24.01.2022 COVID-19 Update . Western Australians will enjoy the easing of COVID-19 restrictions for social gathering and leisure activities from Monday, 18 May. You can h...elp keep all Western Australians safe while we continue our fight against this virus by staying at least about 1.5m to 2m apart while socialising. In an emergency, our paramedics will ask you to stay 2 metres from the doorway while they ask a few questions to assess what personal protective equipment if any is required. Please do not approach our crews and be truthful about your symptoms. Thank you for helping keep our staff and volunteers safe. 21.01.2022 COVID-19 has forced us all to reflect on how we can do things safer from a hygiene point of view. This even includes looking into Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ...(CPR). We've actually had a lot of people ask us if it's still safe to perform CPR during this COVID-19 and the answer is - YES! If you have access to a face shield (for administering breaths), please use them. Otherwise provide chest compressions and withhold the breaths unless performing on a family member or instructed to do so by our Triple Zero (000) calltaker. Ensure that if you are administering CPR on an unconscious patient, that you have called Triple Zero (000) for emergency assistance. In WA, we're incredibly lucky to not have had any community transmissions in the last few months, but it doesn't hurt to remain cautious.
21.01.2022 Why not try one of our online first aid courses or individual skills from the convenience of your computer. https://stjohnwa.com.au//first-aid-sk/first-aid-skills-web
20.01.2022 It’s thank a Paramedic/Ambulance Volunteer Day today. Thank you to all our Vollies and Community Paramedic who change lives every day .
19.01.2022 One in four of us will have a stroke in our lifetime (yes you read that right). That means it's even more important for us to be able to recognise the signs of ...a stroke, as it could help save a life. Just remember to check for these four signs and always call Triple 000 in the event of an emergency: Face: is the patient's face drooping? Arms: can the patient lift both arms? Speech: is the patient's speech slurred or comprehensible? Can they understand you? Time: every second counts, call Triple 000 immediately if you suspect a patient is suffering from a stroke. 17.01.2022 Alongside our brothers and sisters at Department of Fire and Emergency Services WA, we're still here for you when you need us most. As social distancing measur...es ease, please still be mindful if you're venturing off into rural areas and bushland. If you do decide to go alone, you tell someone where you're going. Let's continue to keep each other safe, have a great weekend everyone! CHC Helicopter RAC WA
13.01.2022 Down south or out and about for Leavers? We hope you guys have a great time after the crazy year we have had, but let's not forget to be mindful of each other's... safety and wellbeing. We don't want to sound like a broken record or like your parents, but here's some advice straight from our ambos: Drink responsibly - Space your drinks throughout the day and drink water between each alcoholic drink. You only get to go on Leavers once! Knowing first aid - There are a bunch of free first aid resources available on our First Responder app if you need it. From snake bites to bleeds, you have a first aid guide right in your pocket. You can download it from the app store for free so be sure to check it out. Stay hydrated - it's going to be a warm week so be sure to keep your fluids up (and we mean water!) Be sun smart - pretty straight forward, slip, slop, slap and slide. Illicit drug use - Most people enjoy Leavers without taking drugs, however if people do choose to take drugs it is important to minimise the harm. Make sure you have a friend with you who is not under the influence to keep you safe; and have a support plan if you run into trouble. In any case, if you do start to feel unwell make sure you tell the first aid personnel as they are there to help, not to judge people for their actions. The information you give them is confidential, so it is critical that if you are having any medical issues, seek medical aid immediately (and fully disclose what you have taken, if anything). Being upfront and honest may save your life, so let's stay safe and smart this weekend. Most importantly, have fun!

11.01.2022 Today is 'R U OK? Day' and we're reminding everyone that any day is a good day to ask, "Are you okay?" and support those who may be struggling. A conversation c...an change a life and asking someone if they are alright is a great place to start. Four ways you can open up a good conversation is to: Ask, listen, encourage action and then check in. You can read more about 'R U OK? Day' here: https://www.ruok.org.au/
