25.01.2022 Allen’s have rebranded their Redskin lollies to Red Ripper to try and be politically correct. The problem being their lollies now share the name with a horrible serial killer with the same name. No matter how well intentioned, these sorts of moves don’t usually turn out favourably. Pursuit of the elusive political correctness can cost a lot of money, destroy a brand, often with no net gain. I won’t be buying Allen’s lollies anytime soon.
25.01.2022 No carols by candlelight Now no New Year’s Eve fireworks I wonder what is next?... https://www.abc.net.au//victoria-records-no-new-/12886314

22.01.2022 for those with allergies, please be aware. There is a great app - Melb. pollen, that helps forecast pollen levels.
21.01.2022 since announcing my campaign in February, it has been an amazing journey in the City of Monash. If I had to be stuck within a 5km radius, this is the one to choose! I have always made an effort to support local traders, not just as a customer but by spreading the word too. As the owner of a small nutrition business, I know how tough it can be (even before lockdown). I just want to give honourable mentions to those businesses again, and ask everyone to support the local...s over the multinationals. I will always fight to promote you and advocate for you. 15.01.2022 On Monday Cr. Theo Zographos, City of Monash hosted all mulgrave ward candidates to a debate via Zoom. Not all candidates attended, but for those of us who did, it was a great experience. Everyone was extended an invitation. Ordinarily these would be done in person, but due to the lockdown, this was the next best thing. My closing comments are here for you to see, around my pandemic plan for Monash. Behind the glossy flyers, live recordings tend to provide a more or...ganic insight into a potential candidate. (Excuse the hair - it’s been months since my last haircut )
15.01.2022 5 reasons to vote for me.
14.01.2022 Let’s discuss rates! Many ratepayers have contacted me in recent days, saying they are confused about their rates. While there is a 10% rate waiver this year due to COVID-19, it is important to note this applies ONLY to the Residential rate portion, and excludes the levies applied. Also be aware that a 2% rate increase is also applicable, before the rate reduction. Wouldn’t it also be easier to have a more comprehensive break down of rates vs council expenditure? Something like we introduced federally a few years ago for tax? Improves transparency too! Have a look and let me know your thoughts. @ Mulgrave, Victoria
13.01.2022 Great to see things moving in the right direction. Stay safe everyone! Let’s get back into our community! While spending is always good for our local economy, please consider where you are spending too. Let’s opt for the smaller businesses where we can over the multinationals.
13.01.2022 As there are no requirements for councillors to declare their party affiliation, Labor have now increased their majority at council. Replacing Liberal and Sustainable Australia councillors. This means Labor were able to elect Cr Brian Little to the Mayoral position. And you can expect to see the trend continue for at least the next 4 years. Regardless of your ideology, don’t you think it should be a requirement to list party memberships?
12.01.2022 These are tough times indeed we are facing. We can already see how council budget has been impacted. getting the balance right between sound fiscal management, compassion, and the right amount of local services will be no easy task, but it will be possible. I crafted $2 billion in savings in the Health Department’s forward estimates. I have an MBA, with a public health major. I’ve run my own business, and worked for multinationals. I stand ready to serve, and if elected, will make the right calls to get us back in the black.
12.01.2022 Reminder, by the end of tomorrow (8th October) every resident/ratepayer should have received their ballot. These are complete with a postage paid envelope. 12.01.2022 For many kids, the Melbourne Show is a great Victorian tradition. Good news is kids don’t have to miss out! They can still get their showbags online.
12.01.2022 Imitated but not duplicated. For a renewed focus on: public health... small business and roads/rates/rubbish I am asking for your vote. I have been campaigning since February of this year. This means I am the only new candidate to get mask-less footage. Video footage taken July 2020. Authorised by M. Fernandez, PO Box 3002, Wheelers Hill, 3150.

11.01.2022 How you vote in Monash - Mulgrave Ward, will shape our community over the next four years. What I bring to the council table: 10% donation to Monash Children’s fund over 4 years... Post graduate tertiary qualifications in business/health Conservative with family values - husband, father to be, and church volunteer Varied work experience- retail, call centres, public service, not for profit, sole trader, and private sector Very approachable and accessible, now and for 4 years. Answerable to residents ONLY. What I am not: Labor party/union man, to help cement control for state government colleagues political hopeful, has-been, or never-was fence-sitter. Not everyone will like me - That’s ok. big ego - make time for everyone I can. I seek to bring humility to the office. a social justice warrior, championing political correctness with rate-payers money
11.01.2022 Whether it is at the cricket, or a dinner dance, I’ve always maintained a special fondness for those with Sri Lankan heritage. I appreciate the endorsement Will Morgan. As an outspoken advocate in the Sri Lankan community, your guidance and input is highly prized. My door is always open.
10.01.2022 latest vandalism job. Proof that my skincare routine and exercise regime are working. I am turning 38 in January. on a more serious note, this just shows that crime is on the rise, and fans of labor will vandalise a small business for political gain. vote 1 - Marcus Fernandez for the Mulgrave ward (Monash). Too young baby!
08.01.2022 HAPPY INTERNATIONAL MENS DAY Thanks to all the men out there doing it tough, and getting on with it the best they can in 2020. We see you and appreciate you. Men have a suicide rate 3 times higher than women, and die 4-5 years earlier than women. Men also have a tendency to bottle things up, which needs to change.... Men’s Shed do some great work to help men in the community struggling. https://mensshed.org Men’s line are also available for counselling and just having a chat. https://mensline.org.au
08.01.2022 Remember this is a postal ballot for local elections. They should arrive 6-8th October in Victoria. people over 70 are no longer optional voters, everyone eligible MUST vote or risk penalties. Look out for MARCUS FERNANDEZ (number 14) on the ballot (Mulgrave Ward - Monash Council). Place me #1, and number all other candidates for your vote to count.
08.01.2022 I’ve never been a part of a baby shower before, but during these crazy times - anything goes! Thank you to everyone who came online and to spend some time with Kiran. I am so lucky to have such a loving wife. thank-you also for everyone’s generosity. Trying to source baby things at a time like this, is difficult to say the least.
05.01.2022 To the residents and businesses of Monash, the premier has announced this morning 19 October will not see us reopening as originally planned. While I appreciate public health measures, this does seem excessive. I want to see our churches re-open in a safe way. I want to safely eat in one of our fine restaurants again. Make your vote count, preference Labor candidates last this council election. Send the premier a strong message.
04.01.2022 What I like least about campaigning is talking about myself. Thanks to Roxanne L, for her glowing endorsement. Vote 1 - Marcus Fernandez, Mulgrave Ward next week.
03.01.2022 It is with a heavy heart that I announce the results for the Mulgrave Ward - Monash Council election. I came fourth on 1st preferences out of 15, meaning I received 2109 votes. However, the preferences simply did not flow my way. 1. Paul Klisaris (Labor) 2. Shane McCluskey (Ind) 3. Tina Samardzija (Labor)... My message differed from every other candidate. I was seeking to focus on public health, crime and roads/rates/rubbish. A renewed focus on economic management while donating a portion of my allowance to charity. Family values at my foundation. Thank-you to everyone who has helped me on my journey. First and foremost my wife Kiran and son Henry. They are my motivation for everything, and without their love and support this campaign would not have been possible. I also want to thank everyone who volunteered. To those who letterboxed, hosted a sign, liked or shared a post, called, texted, and emailed me. I have made a lot of new friends and learnt so much about this area. Letterboxing every single street at some point in 2020. I have maintained pandemic or no pandemic, democracy must always proceed. This has presented huge obstacles to us all, but I would not have had it any other way. Voting is the backbone of any democracy. I wish the newly elected councillors well for the next 4 years, but will continue to hold them to account. I encourage you to do the same. Don’t be afraid to call or email them. If this year has taught us anything, it is that we never know what the future will hold. This year has been challenging. 2020 has given me a new son, new home, and new job, so I won’t have an excess of time on my hands. My love for Mulgrave and Wheelers Hill remains unchanged so I will continue to seek ways of working for our community. Knowing over 2000 of you voted for me, really does mean the world. Thank-you, I am extremely grateful.
02.01.2022 Monash Council are meeting to elect a mayor this week. Mayor receives an allowance of around $100,000 a year of ratepayers money. Below is an exert from the Labor party handbook passed on by a concerned resident. Showing that labor councillors form a caucus before a meeting to determine their pick behind closed doors. Let’s see who our new Mayor will be? Which independents will be part of their caucus? Please read and share.
