22.01.2022 WARNING: Mobile phone detection cameras go live in NSW this weekend. Following a successful trial, mobile phone detection cameras will go live on NSW roads this SATURDAY 30/11/19. The cameras will use artificial intelligence to determine if someone in the front carriage, behind the wheel is handling a mobile phone.... There will be a 3 month grace period. If you are caught handling a mobile phone during this time, you will receive a warning letter. After the grace period, anyone caught using a mobile phone will be hit with 5 demerit points and a $344 fine ($457 if youre in a school zone). With Christmas quickly approaching, drivers risk losing up to 10 demerit points during double demerit season. Dont risk it. 20.01.2022 Who remembers this ad from 2016? Still as relevant as ever - taking your eyes off the road to use your phone is dangerous and theres no excuse. Looking at your phone while driving 60km per hour for only 2 seconds is the equivalent of driving 33 meters BLIND.... Thats a scary thought. 17.01.2022 DID YOU KNOW? From September 1st, drivers caught using their mobile phone in NSW will lose FIVE demerit points. Using means - holding the phone on your lap, balancing it on your shoulder or gripping it in your hand. The only time it IS acceptable to touch your phone while driving is when its being passed to a passenger!... Fortunately you can still answer calls, change the song or use a GPS app as long as your device is in a cradle that is fixed to the car and does not obstruct your field of view. You can NOT text or email, video message, use social media or take photos, even if the phone is in a cradle.
