25.01.2022 HW 21 on patrol stopped to say hello to new owners Jane and Terri-Anne of The General at Spencer who support our unit with a boat collection box. Member Mark lent a hand to erect a TOTAL FIRE BAN sign for today’s fire ban!

25.01.2022 The weather forecast for the weekend is interesting, to say the least. For those thinking of making a dash for some aqua fun before the weather changes please carefully check the BOM website for warnings and approaching weather systems (possibly severe). The Hawkesbury can be sheltered in some areas, but in others the wind can be channeled through the high sides of the valley and some very strong gusts and nasty waves form. Keep your whits about you, keep a good eye on the weather and if in doubt, don't go out.

25.01.2022 From all of us at Marine Rescue Hawkesbury, we wish you a safe and joyous Christmas and a happy new year.

24.01.2022 Its shaping up to be a beautiful day on the Hawkesbury this morning

22.01.2022 With the remnants of the recent East Coast low still present, this weekend's duty crew have taken to Broken Bay to put our up and coming Leading Crew and Coxswain candidates through their paces handling the swell in Broken Bay. With waves of between 2-3m it is a good time to practice the skills needed to save lives in poor conditions.

21.01.2022 An urgent situation today which showed the benefits of having a VHF radio fitted to your vessel

21.01.2022 A big thank you to Berowra Waters RFS for attending and presenting these citations to our members.

20.01.2022 The annual NSW Emergency Services Volunteer Memorial Service is always an event of great solemnity for the men and women who often put themselves in harm's way ...to serve our community. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance at this year's service was strictly limited, with the priority given to the families of the volunteers whose names have been added to the memorial. We remember all the volunteers who have made the ultimate sacrifice while on duty, including three members of the rescue services that united to form Marine Rescue NSW in 2009: David Waddell, from the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association at Ballina, Ted Bristow, from the Port Stephens Coast Guard (now MR Lemon Tree Passage) and Dennis Matthews from the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol at Lake Macquarie.

And remember that if you are planning on heading out this weekend, to carry all required safety gear, and to Log On and Log Off with Marine Rescue on VHF Channel 16 or via the free Marine Rescue app.

18.01.2022 ALGAL BLOOM | A temporary Caution Alert is in place for the area from Berowra Waters (Dust Hole Bay) to Calabash Bay. An orange discolouration is present thr...oughout the area that moves with the tide. We have collected samples and are awaiting results, which will take a little longer than usual as the testing labs are closed for the festive season. As Algal blooms can cause waters to be unsafe for recreation (fishing, swimming, kayaking, etc), please be cautious entering the water until further advice is provided.

18.01.2022 Busy few months for our volunteers saving lives on the water

This is a time for us to remember the sacrifices made by our emergency services volunteers, including three members of those predecessor services to Marine Rescue NSW, the Australian Volunteer Coast Guard Association and the Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol. The restrictions of COVID-19 mean that the number of attendees at this year’s service are limited. Livestreaming of the service is available and will commence at 10:55am today. 11.01.2022 Our rescues dont always happen in daylight or when there is optimum visibility, so it is important to train in all conditions to ensure our volunteers can safely navigate our waterways. Tonight our future Leading Crew ladies Sara, Sarah and Natalia undertook night navigation training under the supervision of Duty Officer David. They made their way from Mooney Mooney to Woy Woy and back in HW21. HW22 accompanied the crew to Woy Woy and on the way back a vessel requiring a tow from Refuge Bay to Brooklyn was assisted by HW22

10.01.2022 Our boat crews go out in any weather to help boaties in trouble. But who looks after our boat crews? Who ensures they come home safely? Radio Operators! Marine Rescue’s Hawkesbury unit would like a few good, caring people to be trained as Radio Operators who will become the eyes and ears looking and listening out for our boat crews. We can train you in how to use a marine radio and get a radio communications licence too... It’s not hard to learn to become a Radio Operator, yet Radio Operators make a significant contribution to maintaining the safety of our crews, and of the boating public too. Join our friendly team, learn new skills and keep those on our waterways safer. To find out more about life as a volunteer Marine Rescue Radio Operator, go to: https://www.marinerescuensw.com.au//expressions-of-intere/ and register your interest. Not only will we hear you but so will nearby boaters, who might be able to provide immediate assistance while a rescue crew is on the way.... VHF - make the switch today. See more

08.01.2022 Congratulations to the 365 members of Marine Rescue NSW who will receive the Bushfire Emergency Citation to recognise their contribution to the State's Black Su...mmer bushfire response. A total of 355 volunteers from 25 units and 10 staff members will be awarded the Citation. MRNSW members efforts included staffing Emergency Operations Centres, conducting Rural Fire Service communications, predeploying vessels for potential evacuations, assisting in evacuation centres and opening their own bases to people in harms way. Crews evacuated a family of five sheltering on a beachfront, carried out resupply missions and prevented a potential major fire in Sydney bushland by detecting and extinguishing a camp fire in a National Park during a Total Fire Ban on a day of record heat. Members assembled daily for weeks to answer public calls to the Bush Fire Information Line and Public Information and Inquiry Centre. Staff coordinated our assistance and were based at RFS Headquarters as liaison officers, along with providing essential support to volunteers. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian and Police and Emergency Services Minister David Elliott announced the citations today: BUSHFIRE RESPONDERS AWARDED FOR HEROISM The outstanding contribution of volunteers and service personnel during the 2019-2020 bushfires is being recognised with a new NSW Bushfire Emergency Citation. More than 65,000 people involved across a broad spectrum of the firefight will receive a citation, certificate of recognition, commemorative cap and a letter from the Premier acknowledging their contribution and thanking them for their service. Premier Gladys Berejiklian said NSW faced an unprecedented bushfire season during 2019-2020 and this initiative recognises those who served both on the front line and behind the scenes. This citation is thoroughly deserved for the thousands of volunteers and emergency services personnel who put their safety on the line to protect lives and properties. Equally deserving are those recognised who provided critical behind the scenes support, Ms Berejiklian said. In harrowing conditions, those recognised kept turning up to help their communities day after day, week after week, month after month. This citation serves as a reminder of their heroic dedication to the people of NSW in the most trying circumstances. Minister for Police and Emergency Services David Elliott said it was imperative we recognise the hard work and dedication of those who served their community during the black summer bushfires. This is an opportunity for the people of NSW to show our brave emergency services personnel that we dont consider them to be simply public servants in uniform. The unique nature of decorations and awards personify the bravery required and dedication to service. Mr Elliott said. The NSW Emergency Bushfire citations extend beyond NSW, with firefighters from interstate and overseas recognised. Thousands of Australians interstate will receive citations along with more than 300 people from overseas to thank them for their efforts in NSWs biggest bushfire crisis in living memory.

07.01.2022 Dont forget you can donate to us simply at the local Berowra Return and Earn! A great way to get rid of your long weekend bottles!

05.01.2022 Good news! Drivers towing boats, caravans and horse floats will now be eligible for cheaper tolls on Sydney motorways. The scheme will work by providing a re...bate on the larger recreational vehicle tolls to bring the cost in line with regular cars. It comes into effect from November this year but will be backdated from 1 June.

01.01.2022 Marine Rescue NSW volunteers remain on duty, ready to respond to emergencies and help boaters stay safe on the water over the festive season. COVID-19 operating conditions have again been introduced to protect volunteers and boaters in the Greater Sydney, Hunter/Central Coast and Illawarra regions. Rescue crews in these areas are again operating on an on-call basis, rather than on duty at ... their bases, meaning volunteers will be responding directly from their home or workplace. Radio bases are operating with core numbers of volunteers. Units in the Monaro, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers regions are operating as normal. Commissioner Stacey Tannos assured the boating community that our volunteers were selflessly putting the safety of the boating community first. We have introduced these precautions in response to the State Government’s health advice including today’s announcement from the Premier and Chief Medical Officer to protect our personnel and the boating community, he said. Boaters should continue to Log On and Log Off with Marine Rescue NSW via VHF Channel 16 or the free Marine Rescue App. Boaters in trouble on the water can continue to call for help on VHF Channel 16 or on Triple Zero (000).
