10.01.2022 Marine Rescue NSW volunteers are on duty 365 days a year to help keep boaters safe on our waterways - including Christmas Day. Our radio operators are on the ai...r at our marine radio bases - including Mel Little and Helen Manifold at Marine Rescue Terrey Hills (below) - and our rescue crews are ready to respond if you need help today. If you're heading out on the water, don't forget to Log On with Marine Rescue NSW on VHF Channel 16 or the free Marine Rescue App and give our radio team a shout out for Christmas! If Santa left a new boat under your tree, make sure everyone on board is wearing a lifejacket whenever you go out. We're sure he'd have left you a VHF radio, too, as someone who appreciates clear reception and great range! Have a merry and safe Christmas!

18.12.2021 BUSY AUSTRALIA DAY FOR MARINE RESCUE CREWS Mild weather, light winds and slight seas saw large numbers of boaters hitting the water on Australia Day, with a ran...ge of incidents keeping Marine Rescue crews across the state busy. During Australia Day, 61 requests for emergency help were received, with the majority of these being around Sydney and Broken Bay. Calls to Marine Rescue ranged from Jet Skis to large cruisers, with mechanical failure, flat batteries and running out of fuel the main issues. Calls included: - a disabled Jet Ski requiring a tow (pictured), with Marine Rescue Cottage Point returning the rider to safety - a 7 metre runabout beached on a sand bank after experiencing mechanical issues, with Marine Rescue Sussex Inlet refloating the vessel and towing it to its berth - a 5 metre open runabout with a flat battery on Lake Macquarie that required a tow to its mooring, with Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie having to exercise great care towing the vessel in the busy Swansea Channel - another 5 metre runabout with a flat battery, this one off Barrack Point in the Illawarra, with Marine Rescue Shellharbour towing them to the safety of Shell Cove Marina. Congratulations to all the Marine Rescue crews out on the water yesterday for an outstanding job looking after their local boating community.

07.11.2021 Marine Rescue Narooma volunteers aboard rescue vessel Narooma 20 this morning responded to a sunken boat one kilometre west of the Narooma Bridge. Three people ...and a dog were on board the boat. On being advised that a vessel had sunk, a Mayday Relay call was activated by Marine Rescue Narooma. This resulted in a nearby NSW Roads and Maritime vessel responding and collecting the passengers and dog, who were by then standing on a mud bank in waist deep water unable to get to shore. The rescue was a great example of inter-agency collaboration, with the passengers quickly rescued from a potentially life-endangering situation. The boat will be professionally salvaged as it presents a navigation and pollution hazard. Photo: Scott Bowden
