24.01.2022 Launched this morning by Marine Rescue Commissioner Stacey Tannos, MRTV is our new online monthly online video magazine, showcasing our professionally skilled a...nd dedicated volunteers and world-class vessels and equipment. Episodes will go online in the first week of the month on the Marine Rescue NSW YouTube channel via the MRNSW website. You can watch our first episode here: https://www.marinerescuensw.com.au//ma/season-1-episode-1/ Each episode of MRTV will feature interviews with staff or volunteers, news from around the organisation and safety tips and advice for boaters. Watch our first episode for an interview with new Deputy Commissioner Alex Barrell, the arrival of our new 12 metre Naiad vessel, Botany Hacking 30, and the commissioning of vessel Sussex Inlet 20. We also dropped in to the Rotary Emergency Services Community Awards and we provide some tips about Logging On and Logging Off with MRNSW. We look forward to seeing you each month.

22.01.2022 Training is a key part of what our volunteers do to ensure that they are rescue-ready. Marine Rescue Lake Macquarie Rescue Water Craft (RWC) operator Matt shows the speed and manoeuvrability of his craft on Lake Macquarie, while being shadowed by rescue vessel LM 30.

20.01.2022 VHF is the technology of choice for safer boating. It gives you greater range, better reception and is less susceptible to static and interference than the olde...r technology of 27MHz. If you need help on the water, call Marine Rescue NSW on the international distress channel - VHF Channel 16. We're listening around the clock. Not only will we hear you but so will nearby boaters, who might be able to provide immediate assistance while a rescue crew is on the way. VHF - make the switch today.

20.01.2022 Marine Rescue Ulladulla were after a backup generator - to keep communications going during power blackouts and times of emergency. Recently I called by to deli...ver the happy news of a $10,000 Stronger Communities Grant to help buy the generator. Marine Rescue volunteers right along our coast put in an enormous amount of time to help keep people safe on our waters. They are also out and about supporting our communities in so many ways. Thank you to all Marine Rescue volunteers and all those who support Marine Rescue.

17.01.2022 Two crews from Marine Rescue Ulladulla are under way to rescue two people stranded on a disabled jet ski off Kioloa. The two riders are safe and wearing lifejac...kets but unable to provide rescuers with an accurate position. Rescue vessels Ulladulla 20 and Ulladulla 30 will mount a search to locate the pair.

10.01.2022 If you're heading out on the water today, remember to put the bungs in. Our Marine Rescue Cottage Point volunteers yesterday went to the rescue of a 5 metre ha...lf cabin runabout that took on water and overturned, throwing the five passengers into the water. The skipper had forgotten to insert the boat's bungs before starting their day on the water. Bungs are plugs in a boat that keep water from entering while you're on the water. The bungs are usually removed if the boat is kept in the open off the water, allowing rainwater to drain. Forgetting to replace the bungs is a common error, so make it part of your routine to double-check whenever you launch your boat!

10.01.2022 A crew from Marine Rescue Ulladulla is currently escorting a 12 metre motor cruiser into Ulladulla Harbour after the skipper experienced an injury at sea after ...a fall. It is expected that the crew of rescue vessel Ulladulla 30 will need to help skipper to berth on his arrival at Ulladulla Harbour.

05.01.2022 DO YOU HAVE EXPIRED FLARES? Flares signal that you are in trouble and provide an exact location for searching aircraft or vessels. Over the next few weeks expi...red flares are being collected in many areas across the state by Roads and Maritime for safe disposal. Most flares have a use-by date of three years and they must be replaced before the expiry date. It is an offence to set off flares except in an emergency so they must be disposed of safely. The expired flares collection program provides the boating community with an opportunity to safely dispose of their out of date flares. Follow this link for the next collection day in your area. Collection days recommence in some areas this Friday. https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au//maritime_expired_flares_collec

03.01.2022 Grab a cuppa and enjoy the great stories in this month's Marine Rescue TV episode. First, we head to beautiful Lord Howe Island for the opening of our first offshore unit and the commissioning of our largest rescue vessel, Lord Howe Island 40. We then head to the NSW South Coast to meet a father and daughter team from Marine Rescue Sussex Inlet to learn more about how Personal Water Craft are helping our volunteers save lives on the water. ... It’s whale migration season so we also take the chance to chat to members of the National Parks and Wildlife Service’s whale disentanglement team about these amazing creatures and how boaters can keep them and ourselves safer around these giants of the sea.
