24.01.2022 Rice Paper Rolls...Choose your own adventure! Ingredients: Round rice paper sheets Rice vermicelli noodles (follow packet instruction on how to prepare)... Vegetables: choose your own adventure! Here are some examples... carrot, grated or cut into thin strips cucumber, cut into strips capsicum, cut into strips snow peas, cut into strips Chinese cabbage or purple cabbage, shredded lettuce, shredded spring onion, sliced bean sprouts Herbs e.g. mint, coriander, chives Simple Dipping Sauce: 1 tablespoon sweet chilli sauce 1/2 tablespoon soy sauce juice of 1/2 lime Fill a bowl with lukewarm water and submerge round rice paper sheet into water for about 15 seconds. Don't leave in for too long or it will become soggy and difficult to work with! Place rice paper flat on bench. Place salad ingredients and vermicelli noodles along edge of the rice paper. Fold the rice paper over (see photo) and roll up firmly. Serve with dipping sauce

24.01.2022 Curried Lentil Hand Pies Cold, rainy weather called for pie this week! With fresh ginger, lemons and coriander from our garden Year 5 students made and demolished these yummy curried lentil hand pies. Recipe @mydarlinglemonthyme

23.01.2022 Donated to the garden by Elisabeth Bacskai several years ago, these lovely Petticoat Daffodils burst from the ground every spring. That's the beauty of bulbs - they put on an amazing - though short-lived - display of colour and then wither away, to do it all again the following year. Thank you Liz, we've had so many comments from students and volunteers alike loving our little bursts of bright yellow.

18.01.2022 They're growing up so fast! Thought we'd better show a family pic before they're bigger than mum. #silky #familyportraits #chickenlover #familyphotoshoot

17.01.2022 Rainbow Nori Rolls (sushi) Asking students this week what their favourite sushi is to eat, hands down Teriyaki Chicken was the winner, followed closely by tuna and cucumber. Being a vegetarian kitchen, in class students had a choice of vegetable fillings including carrots, cucumber, grated beetroot, lettuce and the most creamy avocados (thanks Mr McCleod) to choose from. It was fun having a go at rolling up our sushi. Recipe for Sushi Rice 1 1/2 cups of sushi rice... 2 1/4 cups water Sushi Rice Dressing 80ml rice wine vinegar 25 gm caster sugar 1 tsp salt Place the rice in a large bowl, add cold water and stir quickly to discard the cloudy water. Repeat this process until the water being discarded is almost clear. Drain the rice in a sieve and allow to stand for 30 mins. To make the sushi dressing, place the dressing ingredients into a saucepan and gently heat until the sugar has dissolved. Allow to cool. Place the rice and the 2 1/4 cups of water into a saucepan, place on a medium heat and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pan and cook for 10 minutes. Remove from the heat, keep the lid on and allow to stand for 10 minutes. Transfer the rice to a large bowl, pour the sushi dressing and mix through with a wet wooden spoon. Allow to cool.

15.01.2022 We've just harvested the best lettuce ever grown in our school garden ($4) and it's waiting for you on our Roadside Honesty Stall right now, along with limes (2 for $1); silverbeet ($3 a bunch); mixed herb bunches ($3); potted thyme, rocket, tomatoes and snow peas all just $1; mid sized potted strawberries just $2 and our famous 3L worm juice just $5. Cash only please - look for the honesty box next to the Stall.

14.01.2022 'The best vegetable thing I have ever eaten!' The words of a year 4 student this week after trying the roasted beetroot hummus. That is a pretty good testimonial to encourage families to try this recipe at home!

10.01.2022 Chocolate beetroot cakes creating some muddy chocolate smeared smiles amongst the year 5 students this week in kitchen

09.01.2022 We need more coffee jars! Our terrariums are lookimg amazing but we're running out of coffee jars fast. These will be our main Xmas fundraiser for 2020 so we really need another 20 or 30 if we can get them. And does anyone have any spare blue metal? We're low on that too. All donations can be left on the Honesty Stall on Forrest Road anytime.

05.01.2022 Here's a very clear example of "many hands make light work" as 8 volunteers from Mrs Thomas' T2 gave up their lunchtime to make sure these broad beans were ready for kitchen. Great attitude. Great kids. And our worms eat all the shells!

04.01.2022 Improvisation.

02.01.2022 We're so lucky in our school garden to have such lovely, knowledgeable volunteers. Katie Biggs showed the kids how to braid garlic, which is now drying under our shed's roof. Thanks Katie. Some of this will go onto our Roadside Honesty Stall later in the week. #garlic #learningnewskills #volunteers
