24.01.2022 How often, if ever, do you clean your kitchen sponge? Kitchen sponges are a hotspot for Bacteria and ideally should be cleaned on a daily basis depending on usage. Here are 4 ways you can keep the germs away: 1. Microwave your sponge: wet sponge and squeeze out excess water. Microwave for 1-2 min. Keep an eye on it to make sure it’s not getting burnt.... 2. Vinegar: Soak in vinegar for 5 min 3. Bleach: Soak in diluted bleach for 5 min (1:10 bleach : water) 4. Boiling water: soak in boiling water for a 5 minutes. Replacing sponges every 2-4 weeks is recommended, depending on usage. Environmentally friendly options are biodegradable sponges or a microfibre sponge which lasts up to 2 months. It’s faster drying and has less time for bacteria to grow.
