24.01.2022 Remember avoid fragrance in your products. Unless they are naturally sourced, ie natural isolates, natural fragrance oils. Natural Isolates are natural occurring chemicals (single chemicals) that have been isolated from their natural sources using the least invasive methods of extraction, usually fractional distillation. 09.01.2022 Go Natural. So what nasties might be in your soap? If your soap comes without any packaging and therefore ingredients list, ask the manufacturer to let you know whats in the soap. Some harmful ingredients are. Fragrance This can be a vague term, and can often mean a cocktail of chemicals rather than a mixture of essential oils (fragrance oils are dangerous to your health, sadly they often smell stronger than essential oils so are attractive)... "Most of the time, synthetic chemicals and cancer-causing toxins (like phthalates, used to make fragrances last longer) are hiding under that one sneaky term SLS sodium lauryl sulphate which also can contain palm oil Diethanolamine or DEA DEA readily reacts with nitrite preservatives and contaminants to create nitrosodiethanolamine (NDEA), a known and potent carcinogen. Artificial colours Blue 1, Red 33, Yellow 5 and Titanium Dioxide (avoid) EDTA Tetrasodium is a chelating agents thats made from formaldehyde and sodium cyanide (its ok for corpses but not ok for a live person to use!) made PEG Polyethylene Glycol The trouble with PEG, is that in itself it is not too offensive (some studies claim mild skin irritation) but it is that is increases the absorption of whatever else is in the product which could include any number of nasty chemicals. Parabens "there has been research that suggests parabens possess oestrogen-mimicking properties that are associated with increased risk of breast cancer." Methylisothiazolinone (MIT) tests suggests that prolonged exposure to MIT, or exposure to the chemical at high concentrations, could damage the nervous system" Mineral oil and Petroleum Jelly Both are petroleum derivative that coats the skin and prevents it from breathing, absorbing and excreting Colour like Tartrazine, FD & C Yellow No.5, or any long sounding name. Preservatives like Tetrasodium EDTA, the Preservative Made from Formaldehyde. Palm Oil I avoid all palm oil (but look out for its derivatives too!) Palm oil is destroying the habitat of animals like Orangutans. I avoid "sustainable" palm oil as you cannot be 100% sure it is??? To me it is like "clean coal". PEG-6 (PEG-6 is another one of these extremely common toxic soap ingredients and it regularly contains toxic impurities that can cause a wide range of dangerous conditions. Studies show that exposure can cause a large increase in your likelihood of developing breast cancer).
