25.01.2022 It’s always exciting when we hear of a new player in the Melbourne craft scene, but even more exciting when you find out they are gonna be specialising in some of our favourite styles of beer! Sobremesa is a passion project born of a love for farmhouse style beers and the brewing philosophies and ethos that is intrinsically connected to these styles. Our Daily Brett, their first release, is a Brett Saison that has gone through primary fermentation in neutral oak before being ...aged for 4 months on lees. A deep, earthy funk on the nose opens up to a delicate bouquet of honey, wildflowers, orange sherbert and pepper. Full, fluffy and almost silky on the palate with a subtle bitterness which would lend itself to food matching incredible well. Only 240 bottles of this first batch were made. 21.01.2022 Our second #freetastingfriday of the year and this time it is with our mates from @hopnationbeer showcasing their 'Ray' seltzer. @rayhardseltzer is a brewed alcoholic sparkling water, with real fruit, no added sugar, and is a crisp refreshing tipple. For those wanting a beverage with a little less alcohol and fewer calories, 'Ray hits a sweet spot. Head down to the tasting on Friday the 15th of Jan at the usual time of 6pm-8pm. #rayhardseltzer

20.01.2022 It's happening!! We are finally getting on the beers. We are officially opening back up this Friday the 30th at 4pm. The bar upstairs is fully booked at this stage however, we have some news! We are going to be adding extra tables in front of the bar in the mall outside for 50 extra guests which we are not taking reservations for. 20.01.2022 You may know Dane Johns of Nikau Farm from his other cult-followed wine label Momento Mori. As well as producing fantastic wine under the Momento Mori label he is now producing exceptional wine for the very first time from his own vineyard in Gippsland on the 'Nikau Block'. Nikau Wines are foremost a brutally honest expression of land, place, farming and time. The Nikau block is the centrepiece on the wine label. The farm is just over an acre and is 27 years old and planted ...entirely to Pinot Noir. The soils are comprised of a compacted sandstone base which becomes more stone like the deeper you go, with a highly fertile, friable organic layer of about half a meter over the top of it. The entire farm has never had any pesticides or herbicides used and is a clear indication in the health of the soils and the property as a whole. The soils and the ecosystems above them are incredibly healthy and are teeming with life and microbial activity. Dane carries out everything in the vineyard by hand and strictly adheres to organic principles always with a philosophy of ‘less is more’. This wine, a 2019 Pinot Noir, is a true example of that. The yields in 2019 were tiny and Dane harvested about 700kg of fruit in total. The quality of the fruit though was exceptional with tiny berries on very small bunches producing very concentrated flavours while still holding great acidity. 100% hand destemmed fruit into stainless steel and left to start fermentation by it’s own accord. The fermentation was low and slow at relatively low temperatures due to the cool weather. No maceration, no plunging, no movement. After about 6 weeks the wine was pressed back into stainless steel for 10 months before being bottled by gravity directly off of its full lees. Jauma Wine spring tipples are here and we highly recommend having a few and sharing it with friends. 16.01.2022 Pretty excited for this weeks #freetastingfriday. Introducing GP Crushed latest squeeze, Little Crush Piquette's. Piquette's are a style of wine made from rehydrating and re-fermenting pressed grape skins (pomace/marc) and water. Creating a highly drinkable crisp, aromatic, sparkling beverage. We will be showcasing 3 of GP Crushed ‘Little Crush’ Piquettes alongside with some core range Garage Project beers.... We will have the always amazing Adam in the shop offering up tastings and some good chat from 6pm-8pm so head down for a taste.

As of 5pm tonight, to enter our venue, whether you’re shopping for some takeaway or joining us in the bar, masks are now mandatory! We will have masks available in case you forget one however if you’re not wearing one you will be asked to pop one on The shop is open until 11pm tonight and the bar until 1am. We cannot wait to drink some bubbles and bring in 2021 together.

13.01.2022 With the growth in popularity of sour beers in recent years, Gose is a style a lot of craft beer drinkers are intimately familiar with. An important part of our ethos here at Mr West is staying in touch with the history of beer and being able to look back at where styles originated. Gose as a style originates in the German town of Goslar and has been brewed in some form or another since the 13th century. 08.01.2022 Life in the Stars Mr Banks x Collective Arts x Mr West collaboration for #PoOcanada for @goodbeerweek ! The beer is a mashup of our favourite hoppy beers from both breweries, 'Life In The Stars' has the base recipe of Collective Arts beer Life In The Clouds with the hop profile of Mr Banks hazy pale McConoughaze. The name is a subtle nod to Matthew McConaughey's film Interstellar and a pretty obvious nod to the namesake component of Collective Arts beer which is featuring ...artwork from one of our favourite Australian artists @justinemcallister. We decided to use all four of Justine’s artwork concepts as we just couldn’t decide on one because we loved them all so much. Life in the Stars is available through our web store and in the shop.

07.01.2022 Our @burnleybrewing x @collectivebrew beer launched today!! It’s currently on tap in the bar and all proceeds of one keg will be donated to @colourtheconversation. Casual Pale Ale is a thought provoking beer inspired by Collective Arts ‘Amplified Voices’ series to challenge the status quo and raise awareness on causal racism. Melbourne based artist Michelle Phan’s piece ‘Banana Girl’ is featured on the can and is a currently on display in the bar as along with our Amplified Voices exhibition.

02.01.2022 That line up To call them cult wine producers is an understatement, Antonella Gerosa and Massimo Marchiori of Celler Partida Creus produce exceptional zero sulphur, organic wine in Catalonia, Spain and every sip of wine you have, in our opinion, is an experience. We were lucky enough to receive 9 different styles and most are fairly limited in quantity.
