23.01.2022 Museum Store Sunday is 50 days away. See you on December 1st, in a museum store near you!

23.01.2022 The Museum Shops Association of Australia & New Zealand have regretfully made the decision today to postpone the upcoming MSAANZ NZ Cultural Retail Forum scheduled for May 2020, and our Regional Outreach forum scheduled for Brisbane 2020 until further notice. At present government recommendations are changing almost daily, and as such we have yet to make a decision on the timing of MSAANZ20 conference scheduled for Melbourne in July. We will update all member, delegates and s...uppliers of any developments as soon as practical. Our annual MSAANZ Retail Recognition awards will still take place, and details of these will be circulated shortly, with an alternate recognition system implemented should the conference and awards dinner not be able to go ahead. The MSAANZ Executive are following all official advice and preventive measures, and are continuing to meet via the virtual meeting software ZOOM that we invested in last financial year. We are also looking at the possibilities of additional regional sessions in lieu of our conference should this not be able to proceed this year. We encourage our members to take all sensible precautions and measures to protect yourselves, visitors, and vulnerable whanau from COVID-19. Many museums and zoos have escalated cleaning and sanitising regimes, and put up new notices about hand washing, sneezing/coughing into a tissue or your elbow, and staying/going home if feeling at all unwell. Social distancing is now accepted as good practice - it is not rude to avoid shaking hands, hongi and hugs. If you have symptoms of the Coronovirus, call New Zealand Covid-19 Healthline on 0800 358 5453 (+64 9 358 5453 for international SIMs) or Australian Coronovirus Health Information line 1800 020 080 Kotahitanga, the Maori value of togetherness is an important value in these challenging times. As cultural retail professionals we need to support each other and keep our nations working. If you need support or advice on how to navigate retail difficulties through these times then please do reach out to colleagues via the members directories, by emailing us at [email protected] or by contacting your closest Executive member . 17.01.2022 From the ashes, there are always signs of hope The bravery and stoicism shown by the koalas and thousands of other animals at Mallacoota is inspiring. Zoos V...ictoria vets are currently in East Gippsland at the request of the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning. 09.01.2022 It is with regret that the Museum Shops Association of Australia & New Zealand Executive Board have made the decision to cancel the upcoming MSAANZ 2020 conference and accompanying Supplier Showcase scheduled in Melbourne for late July, due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic and restrictions on gatherings and international travel. While this conference was the signature event in our annual calendar for over 20 years, the MSAANZ Executive is actively exploring new ways we can ...provide the key themes that were being developed for the conference in an online capacity, and will be looking at replacing the event with a larger number of regional activities once it becomes feasible for us to do so. We are still continually striving to provide valuable opportunities for our members to connect, learn, and do business throughout this time, and will still be celebrating our annual Retail Recognition Awards in a digital capacity, with more details on these coming late next week. If you have any questions or requests, please do contact us at [email protected] We continue to encourage our members to take all sensible precautions and measures to protect yourselves, visitors, and vulnerable whanau from COVID-19. Many museums and zoos have escalated cleaning and sanitising regimes, and put up new notices about hand washing, sneezing/coughing into a tissue or your elbow, and staying/going home if feeling at all unwell. 02.01.2022 Zoos Victoria needs your help The impact of the bushfires on Australias communities, precious wildlife and their habitat is difficult to fathom. Across the country, it is estimated that more than 500 million animals, including critically endangered species, have already perished in the fires. The full impact is impossible to determine at this early stage. ... Zoos Victoria has been directed by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) to provide frontline veterinary support and long-term care to the wildlife affected by the bushfires. They have vets stationed on the frontline in East Gippsland who are beginning the enormous role of triaging and caring for animals that have survived the fires. This is why they need your urgent support. They have established a Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund with 100% of donations going towards the impacted animals, including endangered species, to provide veterinary support, and to explore long-term solutions such as supplementary feeding and habitat restoration. 01.01.2022 Did you spot our letter in The Dominion Post this weekend? We wanted to remind everyone that were still open for business! Like everyone in the city, the Galle...ry is looking forward to many of the buildings in Te Ngkau Civic Square being strengthened and open againthe square is the very heart of the city and we miss our neighbours terribly. The suggestion that the whole Square is closed is disingenuous. City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toithe cultural heart of the cityis very much alive and open for business. Every week visitors flock to the Square to experience our exhibitions and events, and to get that classic Quasi-shot. We welcome school students from around Wellington and further afield, and host numerous corporate and community events. Just over the last week, we had two exhibitions open, a live quadraphonic-sound performance, exhibition tours, artist talks, and lecture series. Our shop is buzzing with pre-Christmas energy and Nikau Cafe is still one of the best places in town to meet and eat with its great menu and sunny, sheltered courtyard. Were frustrated by the access issues into the Square, but every sunny lunchtime the Square is well used by Wellingtoniansit continues to be a vital place for civic engagement. The Gallery is herewith the glorious Quasi presiding over the Squarewere open, and we continue to proudly contribute to what makes Wellington the cultural capital. - Elizabeth Caldwell, Director, City Gallery Wellington Te Whare Toi.
