25.01.2022 Oh Boy! Really not sure what drew me to this skirt today??? Nothing about it is really 'me' - lime green, midi length and funny leopard print - okay, it was probably the leopard print that got me! But I just saw this skirt and had to give the stripes with prints trend a try. I'm actually pretty surprised at how the striped shirt seems to tone down the incredibly 'LOUD' skirt or maybe lime green leopard print is a new 'neutral'. Who knows! I think I may give the prints and ...stripes trend a thumbs-up, but I have gathered a few rules together to keep things in the 'appropriate' and not the 'I just rolled out of bed and grabbed the first two items on my floor' category. 1. Stick with the same colour family - here, I stayed with black and white and added in the bit of lime. 2. Keep the cut classic - keep your clothing very basic and classic - tailored pants, simple t's, classic blouses and pencil or midi skirts work best. 3. Keep accessories simple - the stripes and prints are really enough. Keep shoes to a simple neutral colour and jewellery simple -don't overdo it. 4. Be confident - as always, be confident with what you are wearing. If you're uncomfortable people will notice. see more at www.msappropriate.com.au

22.01.2022 You know when you get that feeling... 'Wow! this shirt fits great, looks good and I feel confident'. That's how I felt with this leather and striped shirt from Banana Republic. It isn't something I would normally go for since I tend to only buy shirts with sleeves but I fixed that problem wearing it over a white blouse. I think it's a great way to wear the leather trend at work without looking like you just left the club. This week I'm also joining the Trend Spin Linkup with Walking in Memphis in High Heels and The Fashion Canvas. Check out their pages and take a look at how other bloggers wear their stripes!

22.01.2022 Three Ways Tuesdays - The Full Skirt Welcome to Three Ways Tuesdays - Showing you how to work or play one piece of clothing three ways. Not all of us are blessed with an unlimited budget or space, so the more looks you can get from one item the better. This week is the full skirt from Target. I guess with the warmer weather I was in the mood for something that felt like spring. This adorable full skirt from Target was perfect {and it has pockets!} Not that I ever actually use the pockets but it just seems to add a 'cool' factor that you could put your hands in your pockets if you wanted to... AND you can do it while wearing a skirt!

22.01.2022 They Call It The Miracle Dress Say 'Hello' to my third miracle dress from Ann Taylor. I'm probably a little obsessed but honestly - Who wouldn't be! These dresses are truly a miracle. Super comfortable with a side tie and the gathering over the stomach = figure flattering. Perfect length for work and sleeves {bonus for me}. I'm in love.

20.01.2022 THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN Well, I thought I would take a few minutes to drop a quick note about Ms Appropriate. You have probably noticed the background change in my recent photos by now and that is due to a very exciting location change for Mr Appropriate and I. Actually, we have decided to do a few things out of order cut back on work, build our dream home and spend some much needed time with family well before retirement! Im very, very excited about all of the cha...nges in my life and will be bringing in a few changes to Ms Appropriate as well. I am still totally committed to sharing what I feel is appropriate work attire and business tips, but I have also challenged myself to wear my closet full of formal work clothes in a few more casual ways. I dont think workplaces are quite so formal now, but there is definitely appropriate work attire and non-appropriate work attire wherever you work and I hope to cover the spectrum. I also have tons more to share recipes, travel tips, make-up reviews and more. I guess you could say Im getting that little bit closer to finding my voice. Stay tuned for more, more, more and I hope you enjoy the changes that are coming. Im really looking forward to it all. Ms A

19.01.2022 The Horse Sweater/Jumper: 1. J.Crew Factory // 2. Polo Ralph Lauren // 3. Nordstrom // 4. Macy's // 5. Forever 21 // 6. Net-a-Porter // 7. Amazon

19.01.2022 Is That Pink Leopard Print? Yes, Yes, Yes - the sweater really is pink leopard print. I just couldn't resist - I love a good animal print and even though this one is pink the colour is very muted and the print is beautiful. I think with the blue blouse underneath the sweater is definitely work appropriate.

19.01.2022 FEELING BLUE! I felt a little 'blue' today! Not that type of blue but a fun, bright blue. This 'miracle' dress from Ann Taylor Factory was just the ticket. I also couldn't resist pairing the dress with the bold bag. Same blue colour- different graphic print. Did you just see that - print mixing! Sometimes I surprise even myself. See more fashion and fun at www.msappropriate.com.au

19.01.2022 Black and White Graphic You can probably tell by now that I really dig the 'faux' wrap dress. This one is great for those colder days with the long sleeves and high neckline. The high neckline also means no camisole needed underneath. Wonderful - there will be no surprise flashing of any bits in this dress!

17.01.2022 Three Ways Tuesdays - The Grey Blazer Welcome to Three Ways Tuesdays - Showing you how to work or play one piece of clothing three ways. Not all of us are blessed with an unlimited budget or space, so the more looks you can get from one item the better. Up this week is the grey blazer. This is an absolutely fantastic piece to have whether you purchase matching slacks/skirt/sheath dress or not. The grey blazer works really well in a matching set or broken up and worn a...s separates. See more at www.msappropriate.com.au

15.01.2022 Kate Spade now at the Melbourne Emporium! My favourites!

14.01.2022 Im going to be honest here neon, fluorescent, brights whatever you may call it, scares me. I mean really, really scares me! With my particular colouring I dont think neon is the easiest trend to pull off but when I saw this adorable skirt I just had to give it a try. Its got a lot going on graphic rose print and splashes of the brightest yellow, green and blue I have seen in a while, but I think the cut and shape definitely make it work appropriate. Im slowly easing ...into the neon trend but I still follow a few guidelines just to keep things appropriate: 1. Keep it small just splashes of colour if youre like me and cant fully commit to total body neon, just keep the brights to a small area. A splash of colour here or there or bright shoes, belt or handbag. 2. Keep the cut classic and the outfit tailored a neon crop top or mini skirt screams Im trying to relive my younger years in the 90s not exactly the look anyone is going for. Try a beautiful neon silk blouse or pencil skirt. Or opt for a sheath dress with just a dash of fluorescent. Ladylike handbags or low heels/flats also work well. 3. Pair with neutrals mix neon with black, white, tan, etc. This tones down the bright colours a little and moves your look into adult territory. 4. Above all, wear it with confidence and have fun. 14.01.2022 A few of my favourite things. You know when you wake up in the morning and you think it will be just an average day? Well, thats how I thought today was going to be until I put on this wonderful blue dress and necklace {both from J.Crew}. Ive had them both for awhile just sitting in my closet waiting patiently for the day. Well, today is as good a day as any... I put on the wonderful dress and WOW! the bold, bright colour seemed to instantly lift everything. Then c...ame the necklace [which I absolutely love] and it was just the icing on the cake. The whole day got brighter, the sun came out and an otherwise average day is feeling like a powerful I can do anything day. Do you have any favourite items in your closet? See more at www.msappropriate.com.au

14.01.2022 I don't usually wear my glasses - I tend to be a 'contacts' girl most of the time - but I thought I would mix it up a little. I've also heard glasses make you look smarter! What do you think? www.msappropriate.com.au

12.01.2022 Obviously you can tell I'm taken with embellishment lately. But really, what isn't to love? Just put on a shirt or dress and 'ta da' necklace sorted - no need to try to find something that goes with the outfit... It's done for you. What could be easier than that. This tweed dress is also a great piece to move between seasons. The colours are still bright but the fabric and texture is heavier. Perfect for those 'getting colder days' and the dress would look great on its own or with a dark navy blazer or cardigan. See more at www.msappropriate.com.au

11.01.2022 I purchased this sleeveless tie-neck blouse several years ago and really struggled to find anything to wear it with- it's sleeveless and very sheer - not exactly what I would call 'work appropriate'. I ordered it on-line so obviously I knew it was sleeveless, but the total sheerness really threw me when I pulled it out of the box. I just couldn't bring myself to get rid of it though - it's really just pretty, and yes I'm going to say it 'girly'. It's tough to keep items you... never wear though when you don't have tons of closet space. But then, I discovered that it fit beautifully under the numerous v-neck sweaters/jumpers that I own. Viola! Instant out-fit pickup and the black and white pattern means it works with just about everything. What do you think? Do you have any 'difficult' pieces in your wardrobe? See more at www.msappropriate.com.au

11.01.2022 I saw this dress and just had to give it a try. I just call it 'easy'. You can dress it up or down and it's super comfortable. Just easy! See more at www.msappropriate.com.au

10.01.2022 I'm really loving the embellished neckline trend lately. I just had to give this fantastic blouse from Ann Taylor a spin - it's a fantastic addition to dress up a plain pair of black pants and super easy to dress up or down. Find more fashion inspiration at www.msappropriate.com.au

09.01.2022 5 Reasons I Always* Wear a Watch (*Well at least 95% of the time sometimes I forget and feel naked.) I hear from some people that watches are out or on the way out. I mean, why wear a watch when you have your mobile phones, tablet, computer, etc. to check the time. Well, call me old-fashioned but Im still a staunch watch wearer, heres why:... 1. So I know what time it is! Duh! :-) To see all 5 reasons and a few of my favourite watches check out www.msappropriate.com.au

08.01.2022 Turquoise is my birthstone and absolute favourite stone in jewellery but not always easy to pull off at work without looking like you have walked out of a hippie commune. I think the colour of this blouse and the modern statement necklace make turquoise work appropriate. See more at www.msappropriate.com.au

08.01.2022 A Little Blue {Jacket} to Brighten the Day! Of course I can't bypass a bargain and grabbed this beautiful blue jacket at Dillards during the Mother's Day sales. Once home though I realised why I liked this jacket so much - I already own a cardigan in almost the exact same colour. Oh Well! Great to have two pieces and I feel the jacket just adds that little bit of polish that the cardigan can't. What do you think?

07.01.2022 Three Ways Tuesdays - The Full Skirt My picks for a very versatile full skirt. 1. Target // 2. Country Road // 3. Top Shop // 4. The Iconic // 5. Asos // 6. Macy's // 7. Sportsgirl // 8. Ann Taylor // 9. J.C. Penney

06.01.2022 The Right Way to 'Shirt' Dress! I love a good shirtdress. I recently found this dress from Michael Kors which is probably more of a cross between a shirt dress and a trench dress - either way it's wonderful. Super easy to wear and can be dressed up or down. I'm going to have to call it my new favourite shirt/trench dress! Yes - that's now a 'thing'! See more of my favourite Shirt/Trench dresses at www.msappropriate.com.au

04.01.2022 Fashion Inspiration: Allison Williams + Slouchy Pants Lately I have found myself absolutely living in my slouchy pants from Country Road. They are really almost at obsession level. [Honestly Ive purchased a pair in every colour available!]. Up until now though they have solely been reserved for casual days you know: t-shirt, comfy pants and sneakers until I saw this photo of Allison Williams. Bam! Ive got similar pants and tons of silk blouses. Add the heels and my absolutely favourite comfy pants got elevated to a night out. They still might be a little casual for most offices but if youre lucky enough to be in a casual work environment the silk top and heels add that little bit of polish. Check out www.msappropriate.com.au for more fashion inspiration!

03.01.2022 While out shopping lately I noticed tons of stripes and not your plain old vertical stripes - NOOOO! These were stripes in every direction and every which way. I decided to give this dress from J.C. Penney's a spin and to my amazement - bam! instant hourglass shape. It's amazing what a few well placed stripes can do for you. This particular stripe pattern really helped to give the illusion of a tiny waist. [That is definitely help I will take any day!]. I found tons of other dresses using the strategic stripes in short and long lengths and I've put a few of my favourites below. Also check out the strategic striping on my favourite maxi from July 30th! Find more fashion inspiration at www.msappropriate.com.au

03.01.2022 Welcome to Three Ways Tuesdays - Showing you how to work or play one piece of clothing three ways. Not all of us are blessed with an unlimited budget or space, so the more looks you can get from one item the better. This week felt exceptionally cold outside so I just had to pull out the faithful tweed blazer. see more at www.msappropriate.com.au

01.01.2022 Dot, Dot, Wrap! A good wrap dress can go a long way. I've had this faux wrap from Ann Taylor Loft for several years and I'm still surprised about how much I wear it. The faux wrap is great for work too! The look of a wrap dress without any possible 'unwrapping'. See more at www.msappropriate.com.au

01.01.2022 Kate Spade now in Melbourne! Happy, Happy Days! I was recently down at the new Melbourne Emporium when to my surprise I came across the new Kate Spade store. How exciting! Kate Spade in Australia! You will have seen my other Kate Spade bags [HERE - http://www.msappropriate.com.au/?q=node/151 ] and [HERE - http://www.msappropriate.com.au/?q=node/92 ] but I just had to pull out my newest acquisition in honour of the Melbourne Store. I absolutely love the way Ms Spade turns a classic bag into something so whimsical and fun.

01.01.2022 My favourite maxi dress + Trend Spin Linkup I just can't wait for summer to get here! Nothing says 'casual summer day' quite like a flowy maxi dress. On my recent trip to the U.S. I found this fantastic maxi dress and just couldn't pass it up even though I'll need to wait a few months to wear it. Check out more at www.msappropriate.com.au and be sure to click on the Trend Spin Linkup button at the bottom of the post to check out other fantastic maxi dresses!

01.01.2022 Tie One On! I bought this belted jacket years ago - honestly years ago - but I just can't seem to stop wearing it. It's just perfect for the fall/spring weather and just never seems to go out of style. I love the belt - cinches in the waist and gives the jacket a slightly casual feel. This one really is 'an oldie but a goodie!'.
