21.01.2022 Could your boat sail without you? In the early stages of owning and running a small business and with the community projects I would start, I was a bad leader. Not like a horrible person kind of way or anything like that. I would just do everything my self. Run the whole admin, accounts, payroll, social media everything. With my community projects, I had people offering to help me and for free but no, I did it alone and it was crazy.... With trying to do everything myself, I would get burn out, fall in bed and not move for a week/s. So then I did start asking for help and building teams. However, I was new at all this so I didnt have the best people for the roles (first mistake, giving roles and positions to family and friends). The second mistake and the second project, I did have a great team and the right people in the right roles. However, this time, I was lacking confidence and I micromanaged everything, doing most, if not all the work. I didnt really trust my team and they felt that. They didnt let the team down, I did. Third mistake on third project, I didnt communicate what I want done and how I wanted it done. So this is what I learned about leadership and teamwork. Step out of the shadows and claim your position as a leader. Lead from the front NOT the back; Have a clear vision that inspires and resonates with your team; Communicate your vision and why its important; Open communication throughout the project; Dont be afraid to put someone on your team that might be better than you; If you have done the above, then trust your team. Trust yourself and that you have put the right people on your team. I have also learned that leadership is an ongoing journey of discovery. The learning never stops. I dont think my ship will sail without just yet. But Im working on it. Happy sailing

17.01.2022 Today is white ribbon day. Together let’s make a stand to end violence against women. On average, 1 woman a week is murdered by her current or former partner.... My sister Keri, sadly is apart of that stat. She had just broke up with this low life scum & had kicked him out of our house. His abuse & violence towards her and everyone was escalating. A couple of nights before this happened. He was beating into my sister over a stupid dinner not being ready for him, not being good enough, her being with friends. That night he was told to leave our house, after more yelling, his parting words were, ‘this isn’t the end of it’. We thought nothing more of it. Until Friday night, he did come back and end it. This was 1988, and it saddens me that so many women are still experiencing violence at the hands of men. We must come together, men and women and speak out when we see it, call it out when we see it. Or even if you think it might be happening. Have that awkward conversation. It’s so much better to be wrong then to find out later you were right. This is not against all men, there are some wonderful men out there & a life term was 15 years, earlier with good behaviour. 08.01.2022 Its ok to, just say NO. As a little girl, I was taught to be liked (and we all wanted to be liked) I had to be nice, be helpful and be accomodating. As I entered adulthood I subconsciously kept this mindset. I wore myself out trying to be all things to everyone. Stressing myself out because I said way too many yeses, yes, Ill do that for you, yes, I can do that for you. I would stress if I had to say no to someone because I had already doubled booked myself or I just re...ally couldnt help. I would say things like I really hate doing this & Im so so sorry but can I do this tomorrow? Ill bring a coffee to make up for it. Ohh gosh Im so sorry, I feel awful about this. It wasnt until I was in my 30s when I learnt I was a people pleaser (I had never heard of the term before). And people pleasing was making me sick. I started to avoid people, by avoiding people, I was avoiding people pleasing and saying yes to everyone. So, I have learnt, sometimes it really is ok to say no. Its ok to say no, whenever you want. And sometimes some people would prefer you to say no, if you really cant commit to what it is they are asking of you. So, when someone ask you to do something, take a breath & swallow your instant reply of yes and think, Is this something that I want to do, something I need to do or something I have to do? If your answers to those questions are, no, then you should, #justsayno

03.01.2022 Do you have a business mentor? I actually think having a mentor (not a business coach) is vital in all stages of your business journey. You might change mentors as you grow, you might have more than one mentor and sometimes your mentor might not even know that they are your mentor (although it is nice to let them know). There are many great reasons to have a mentor, but here are my top 3 reasons why you should have a business mentor.... 1. They have more business experience then you. Probably even more failures and successes than you. Because of their experience they can sometimes foresee an issue you may encounter, that isnt obvious to you or your inner circle. 2. They make great sounding boards. If you have ideas on expanding your business, staff issues, company issues or having issues with a competitor. Having a mentor to turn to can help talk through those issues and help you not feel so lonely or lost at sea. 3. A mentor is normally someone you look up to, so they can also help with your personal development. As you inspire to get to the next level. Their experience and advice can help shape you. As you learn from their personal mistakes and business mistakes. Well thats about the short and tall of it (I think thats the saying ) I could go on about mentors but Im not sure anyone really reads all the way to the end here.
