21.01.2022 #Repost @grafton_regional_gallery JADA 2020 Finalist Feature; Darren Bryant / Imaginary Terrains / 2020... Felt tip pen with paper folds @d_ j _bryant This drawing was produced during this year’s pandemic. Working from home instigated a renewed interest in the immediacy of drawing activity as a means to create marks, a visual language depicting the practice of mindfulness through the repetition of a line. The meandering, contour-like lines are then distorted through the geometric paper folds. The process is a meditative and intuitive approach to drawing and the folding becomes another layer of drawing creating optical effects and creates unexpected forms from the play of light and shadow. This is the third time that I have entered the JADA Awards. Being a JADA finalist is a fantastic achievement in itself and the ability to share my work to broader audience is important to me. JADA is a significant award in this country, and to win such a prize would be a career defining moment as well as a welcome financial windfall! Congratulations to the Grafton Regional Gallery for continuing to host such a significant event. Drawing is a foundation to my arts practice and essential aspect to my everyday studio activity. I often draw for extended periods of time, and in the case of this work, the simple act of drawing a series of lines becomes a meditative practice. #graftonregionalgallery #clarencevalleyculture #jada2020 #contemporarydrawingaward #contemporarydrawing #contemporaryartists See more
